This nifty little book provides several recipes for cooking, Caribbean style. With wonderful watercolors by Katie Shears, this is a delight to read even if cooking is not one's strength. It starts with an introduction to basic island cooking along with instructions for creating a base seasoning. Garlic, onions, and peppers figure prominently...especially the peppers.
There are illustrations for each recipe and "mouthwatering" is the only way I can describe them. For anyone who has stopped at a roadside hut to drink rum and munch on spicy dishes, these pages will bring back hungry memories. Johnny Bakes (Creole scones), Coconut Crisps, Callaloo Soup, and my favorite, Brule Johl (salt fish mixed with peppers and lime juice). Yummers.
Book Season = Summer (it's always summer in the islands)
