She’s everything I hate in this world. Ruthless. Cold. A stone hearted villain. And she'll do whatever it takes to keep me in line. With the lives of my bonded in her stoney grasp, I must do as she says — biding my time until my people are safe.
But fate has other plans, and a surprise visit leaves me reeling, setting in motion a chain of events that I'm helpless to stop.
Forced to hunt a terrible relic under the watchful eyes of the mate who hates me, I chafe in my new role. He claims to want the same thing as me - freedom from this damn bond. But the heat in those golden eyes says differently, and each time he loses control, it destroys just a bit more of my carefully constructed walls …
Between him watching my every move, my mates haunting my dreams, and the bonds acting in new strange ways, it’s all I can do to keep my head down and my emotions in check.
I MUST complete my mission and keep everyone safe. Failure is not an option.
Can I outwit the Stone Sage in time?
Join Kaiya and her mates on the Forsaken Isle — a place full of dragons, monsters, twisted magic, and a painful truth that could change everything.
I want my books to be a safe place to explore – a refuge containing the sexiest book boyfriends and a world that can always be fixed.
I live with my amazing husband, our two mischievous kiddos, and our fluffy puppy, Rocco, in the mountainous and coldly beautiful Alaska. When not writing, reading, or being mom, I love playing board games and watching cheesy romance movies.
My favorite genres include reverse harem romance, romantasy, paranormal romance, epic fantasy, sci-fi, and … well, anything that ends happy, lol.
I liked this. I like the characters. Kaiya is cool, and I like the love interests.
However, the world-building is a little overly complex, and I can't fully follow the magic system no matter how hard I try to understand it. The romance is also moving at a total snail's pace. It barely progressed in this book with any of her mates. Two of her mates were not really in this book at all.
Rien is my favorite character, but I wanted more of him.
I just feel like these characters are always 10 steps behind the villain. It's like they're just constantly getting beat down, and they never win. It's a little exhausting.
This is a whirlwind emotional rollercoaster! So much pain, sacrifice and devastation, but balanced so well against the tension, wit, snarky banter and cast of entertaining and lovable characters. Oh my this is definitely full of surprises, drama, twists and heartache. I loved seeing more of Tye as he battles with his wolf and tries to fight his protective instincts. His forced proximity with Kaiya is full of steamy tension and some delicious scenes including the woods and cooking! There is so much mystery with spicy and cryptic dreams, escape plots, a hooded stranger, corruptive bonds and missing allies, this definitely leaves an impact, and the ending was another level! I absolutely love the characters in this story, the bonds they are forging, the distinct personalities, and the balance of light and dark. Can't wait for more of this epic series.
I managed to get this as an arc and I had to read it I've been waiting for this book for a while and it didn't disappoint it was action packed I couldn't put it down the banter between the MFC and the love interest had me stamping and kicking my feet I really felt like I'd been on a journey with these characters and I definitely feel attached to them the pacing was really good in this book I'm so happy I picked this up and id highly recommend this series the first book is on kindle unlimited and this book is due to be released in the next week or so there is a really good plot the different magic systems is interesting again pick it up you won't be disappointed.
*Reverse Harem *Fantasy *Multiple-1st- PoV *Fae *Shifters *Mages *Forbidden Magic *Quest-based *Mates *Building Harem (5?) *Slow Burn *2/? Can things get worse? 😯 Wow this one certainly has a lot of emotion in it for Kaiya - she’s pulled from pillar to post on trying to look out for others and stop Frexin 😢 on top of that for everything she does it can never be enough for some people or even for herself - the resilience she shows throughout this book is incredible 💪 and you really feel it all with her! For me I found writing and storylines is super at creating that emotional connection to our FMC. Although there’s a lot of distress and things going wrong there are some bright sparks for Kaiya, particularly with making break through with Tue; making great connections with Rien; and understanding Liam a bit more 😌 there’s concerns for Jail and those in Frexins grasp especially with the corruption - you wonder how far she will push Kaiya and will it be too much 😓 however some blast from the past may reveal a whole new facet of issues for Kaiya to contend with 😯 existed to see where this goes in the next one!
Wow what a thrilling sequel! This one jumps right in right where the last one left off and man does it not let up until the very end leaving me hanging on every word!!
I really like the story and I love trying to put the pieces together to figure everything out.
This book dived a little deeper into each of the characters in addition to discovering some new ones as well! I enjoyed learning more about Liam, Jaiel, and Tye. Jaiel still remains my favorite but I did enjoy Liam more in this one and I’m starting to understand Tye a little more.
I look forward to more high-stakes dark fantasy!
Tropes to enjoy in this one were; enemies to lovers, fated mates, why choose, magic, corruption, betrayals, secrets, high-stakes, fierce FMC, protective MMCs, shifters, morally grey characters, forced proximity, angst, banter, tension, love/hate, and so much more!
I was sent this book as an ARC to review before the publishing date, and let me tell you I wish I could get my hands on the future books now. The muddled waters of the fm’s bonds are starting to get a little clearer, but there are still so many challenges and stories that are left to explore and explain. Not only did we get left on one cliff hanger, we were left with MULTIPLE. what did her memory mean besides the obvious? Will jaiel survive? Where did the cutest dragon ever take them? Will Tye stay stuck the way he is? And lastly, what in the hell is the reapers end goal?
I loved being able to help out this author by participating in her ARC program and I hope to do so for future works of hers! Fantastic writing, great communication with her ARC team, and you can tell she genuinely enjoys collaborating with the team. You’ve outdone yourself with this book!

I really enjoyed book one, Bonds of the Forsaken— it was a fun read that had me hooked with the interesting characters and the mysteries surrounding them. However, I absolutely fell in LOVE with the story and the characters after reading book two.
This is one of those series where the more you find out about the characters and their histories, as things are revealed in the plot, and as relationships develop and evolve, you just become so much more invested and attached.
This is a fast-paced, slow burn/build why-choose fantasy romance that will have you emotionally invested in more than one character. The romance will make you swoon and squeal and maybe even blush 🤭. It’s just so fun while also being emotionally charged which I love. If you have never read why-choose before but are interested, I think this is a great series to try as your first.
I highly recommend this series if you love: 🗡️ fiesty & relatable FMC ✨ unique magic 💕 why choose romance 🐺 shifters and other cool creatures 🖤 struggle to control the beast inside 🍰 he makes sure she’s fed 🌿 cool forest scenes 🔥 slow burn with spice
The Catalog: developing polycule, fated mates, slow burn, forced proximity, forbidden magic, primal chase, reluctant allies, enemies to mates, shifters, dragon riders, angst & jealousy, unique magic system, intricate world building & more
Spoiler-free Summary: Shadow of the Forsaken picks up after the harrowing end of book one, Bonds of the Forsaken. You must read the series in order.
Kaiya believes that the only way to keep the ones she love safe is to obey. Ignore her feelings, ignore her gut, ignore her bonds. Obey. So why does it feel like everything and everyone is working to destroy her resolve?
Thoughts: The love I have, and excitement I feel, for this series is immeasurable. I truly believe the author has created something incredibly special with these characters and their enchanting world, and I cannot recommend this series more. Seriously, somehow this series will make you laugh as much as it makes you hurt and I’m obsessed.
The FMC, Kaiya, has spent years hunting down corrupted magical creatures, but of course nothing is that simple and Kaiya learns a lot of devastating truths in the first book. This book expands on her internal struggles, her ever complicated bonds, and the uniquely intricate (and incredibly dangerous) world she’s forced to survive in. To win, she’ll have to play the game, but she often doesn’t even know the rules.
We meet Kaiya’s love interest as the story progresses, and I must say that each one has been a treat. There’s the charming Fae playing the part of court rake, the grumpy hunter that believes he’s been bewitched by Kaiya, a mischievous dragon rider, and others I shall let you learn about on your own 👀 I am looking forward to seeing these relationships develop as the story continues! The whole dynamic is so funny and swoony!!
Fans of other polyamorous romances such as The Bonds that Tie and Beasts of the Briar should absolutely pick up the Her Forsaken Bonds series, as I think you will adore it!!

Thanks for the opportunity to ARC read your book. I really enjoyed reading this because I get to learn each of the mates and Kaiya more as you read! I give it five out of five stars and look forward to read and review the book3! 📖

Reading this felt like my heart was in a vise, and each chapter it squeezed painfully more and more. The angst is off the charts because these characters ARE GOING THROUGH IT.
Kaiya kept sacrificing herself, trying to save others, and all it did was continue to give Frexin power.
Tye was fighting for his life to resist his wolf and keep Kaiya at a firm distance from his heart, a battle he was losing.
Liam got back a little of his mischievous spark and caused good trouble.
Rien was just a cutie pie Forest God working out human feelings for the first time.
I knew exactly where Jaiel was, and I wished I could get Kaiya to see it sooner, but she had a LOT going on.
And Lynk. Well, I'm withholding judgment on his mysteriousness until the next book, but he better shape up or ship out.
The worldbuilding in this is enthralling. I'm hoping for dragon overload and a major uprising of good defeating evil coming up because my heart can't take much more being crushed under Frexin's malevolent boot.
I didn’t think Olivia could top Bonds of the Forsaken, but wow this sequel was absolute perfection. From the very first chapter, my adrenaline never let up. Every page had me on edge, heart racing, completely hooked. Kaiya is such a beautifully written character, empathetic, selfless, and constantly facing impossible choices. You feel her pain, her strength, her sacrifices… and yet the story still manages to sparkle with witty banter, sizzling mate tension, and characters you can’t help but root for with your whole soul.
And the secrets that unravel? The dreams? The emotional punches hidden between steamy, slow-burn moments? I was clutching my Kindle like my life depended on it.
The world Olivia has built is rich with forbidden magic, layered history, baby dragons (yes, please), dangerous creatures, and a looming battle between light and dark that feels both epic and intimate.
I’m fully obsessed. I need more. And I’m so ready for what’s coming next because you guys…that ending… 😫
Read this series. Now.
Fav quotes:
"Stop turning off your emotions like water from the tap, and let go for once."
What to expect: - slow burn - fated mates - shadow daddy fae prince - dragons, shapeshifters, mages and mage hunters - multiple povs - why choose - high stakes
holy shit!!
i honestly didnt think i was going to cry in this book but i was wrong. i went through so many emotions while reading. i mean i was laughing, crying, frustrated at times and on the edge of my seat the entire time.
the slow burn in this is sooo good! the tension and banter is also there and it really added that extra umph if you know what i mean. i also feel the character growth was done so well.
i finished this book in one sitting because i could not put it down. i am going to need the next book immediately. why the cliffhanger? just why? i need answers
Took me a minute to somewhat recover from what I just read. What an emotional roller coaster! I am wrecked!
There is a storm coming….We must remember… 5 mates…4 keys…Sleeping mystery person…Experiments…
Welcome back to The Forsaken Isle!
We get to see Liam’s POV more in this book. These characters are put through the wringer. There is not much I can say about this book without giving something away. What I can say is that, I.COULD.NOT.PUT.THIS.BOOK.DOWN. Suspense and more twists and turns. Jaw dropping moments. Book leaves on some major cliffhangers.
Where can I get a little blue dragon like Serali? Such an adorable strong smart dragon.
This is a must read!! I mean it!!
Thank you to the author for this gifted ARC. I need book 3!!
I was lucky enough to beta and ARC read this and WOW. I devoured this both times. Ate it up. Gobbled it. However you wanna phrase it I did it.
It has absolutely everything that you would want from a romantasy book and perfectly links back to the prequel and the first book. It’s sassy, funny, heartbreaking, edge of your seat stuff, surprising, spicy and much much more.
The second instalment in the series, and it’s just as good as the first and I can’t wait to see what book three has to offer!
Honestly this ENTIRE series is fantastic and I would recommend it to anyone that loves a why choose romatasy!
Ah I have so many questions! There is so much mystery and magic in this series it's flying out if the pages. I can't wait for what happens next. I definitely had tears reading this. There is so much hurt but so much strength with this FMC. And the MMCs ooooh I love. But man this slow burn is killing me. To finally have something jut to have another road block. Ah it's infuriating. But so happy she beat the sh1t out of some characters!
Wow, this book ate me up and spat me out with emotional damage. The amount of times I shed tears for the characters in this story 🥲 It was riveting, hot 🔥🥵, gasping at the plot twists, frustrating (in a good way, i promise) heartbreaking, sitting on the edge of my seat, can't read it fast enough good! Olivia you have written an amazing story, and I can't wait to see what comes next in book 3!
Wow, what a wild ride. So many great moments in this book. I love the unique magic system and having multiple POV’s. Not all monsters are as they seam. I really feel for Kaiya and all her bonded! I can’t wait to continue the journey in book 3!
I received this e-arc in exchange for my honest review;
I really really like the plot, the story line is great. I like where it's going and I think the character introductions are done well and not a big cluster of info dumping.
I didn't vibe with the dialogue, so this is probably a me issue and not a book issue, but I found the way the characters interact with each other to be on the immature side. I do enjoy banter but it felt a little too silly during serious/sad scenes so it felt a bit disjointed.
It was an emotional rollercoaster I was definitely rooting for some characters more than others, looking at you Tye 👀 and I am interested in what happens next especially with Liam.
Elevates the intensity and complexity of the series in a journey of self-discovery, love, and pain.
One of the standout qualities of this book is how the world continues to expand. New characters are introduced, each shrouded in mystery and bringing with them their own deep ties to ancient, centuries-old battles. These characters not only add intrigue to the story but also raise the stakes, offering new layers of history and complexity that promise to impact the future in unexpected ways. Characters range from mages and gods to shifters and dragons, the book creates a vibrant tapestry of beings, each with their own unique powers and motivations. The magic system, centered around the korra realm, is particularly intriguing. It’s not static - Kaiya’s understanding of her magic is constantly shifting as she dives deeper into what she truly is.
The weight of the world presses heavily on Kaiya’s shoulders as she shoulders pain, torment, and guilt in the hopes of saving those she loves. She is driven by a deep desire for love and freedom, yet the constant burden of responsibility threatens to break her. Her internal battle is one of the most poignant elements of the book. She pushes others away with her sharp tongue and rebellious nature, not out of malice but out of a fierce love for them, wanting to protect them from the danger she faces. It's a heartbreaking yet relatable dynamic that makes her all the more human.
Tye also stands out in this book as a character struggling with his own turmoil. His stoic, quiet nature masks the growing hunger of the wolf inside him, a force he desperately tries to suppress. As the mate bond between him and Kaiya strengthens, the tension within him becomes harder to contain. His struggle to keep the wolf locked away while still embracing the bond he shares with Kaiya adds an emotional depth to his character that complements the rest of the narrative beautifully.
Perhaps the most satisfying aspect is the deepening connection between Kaiya and her five mates. We see how they fit together, how each mate fulfills a different aspect of Kaiya’s needs, and how their individual strengths create a balanced, powerful pack. Kaiya’s unique connection with each of her mates is explored in more depth, allowing readers to see just how multifaceted her relationships are. The emotional pull between them is both tender and fiery, and their interactions showcase the complexity of their bond in a way that feels real and earned.
Shadows of the Forsaken is a powerful continuation of a series that has become increasingly more intricate, emotional, and intense with each passing book. If you're a fan of complex characters, intricate world-building, and a love story that transcends the ordinary, this book will not disappoint.
I had the pleasure of being gifted an ARC of this book and I am incredibly grateful.
I loved this book. Like, really loved this book. This series has such incredible world building and so much plot, that it really has kept me on my toes. There is just so much that had me on the edge of my seat!
I giggled, I cried (happy AND sad tears), I yelled in frustration, I shouted with happiness, and I felt SO much throughout this book.
Mostly, I have just fallen in love with all of the main characters. They each have such amazing qualities, and I have just melted and am so in love with the character development that happens in this series.
I love Kaiya. She is so selfless and worked her lil booty off the entire book to make sure everyone else was okay. She is such a gem. I literally am so happy to read a book with such a tough MFC; she takes no crap and is such a bad ass.
I’ve gotta admit - Liam won me back over in this book. Loved him in the prequel, did not love him in BotF, but fell right back in love during SotF. He means well, and just screwed up. But the END?! Yes please, he was amazing.
Jaiel just broke my whole heart in this book. I refuse to give any spoilers but I just love him so much and I will always love him no matter what ends up happening throughout the rest of the series.
Tye is our little (okay huge) wolf daddy and I adore him. I kinda want to hit him sometimes because DUDE, but the last part of this book just really got me good. Literally shouted out loud “FINALLY TYE” because I just needed him to get it together and when he did, all was right in the world.
Rien our little forest creature, I ADORE HIM!!!! He’s so cute and i just melt when he comes into the story. Like, I don’t even have words because nothing will convey how much I love him. He’s so sweet and genuine and I just cannot even deal with it 😭 everything he says is just so adorable. "It's okay," he said. "You can eye-leak on my shoulder. I vaguely remember that it is helpful for humans to do that when they are sad."
Okay finally. LYNK. WHAT EVEN WAS THAT?! Like, I am shook. I don’t even have a lot of words to say because I don’t even know. LIKE HELLO LYNK WHAT ARE YOU DOING? WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?! What is happening?! I have so many questions. I still love him though, I can’t even be mad.
Again, I refuse to give any spoilers because I think you need to read this for yourself and dive head first into this world, but I can truly say YOU SHOULD READ THIS.
If you love a good fantasy series with great world building, unique magic, incredible main characters, and an amazing plot, this is the series for you!
Y’all… I’m still emotionally wrecked from this one. Shadow of the Forsaken picked up right where Bonds of the Forsaken left off and did not RELENT. Kaiya is spiraling—convinced that the only way to keep the people she loves safe is to shove down every feeling and “just obey”. But of course, nothing in this world is that simple. Every page had me holding my breath as Kaiya is pushed to her limits, unraveling secrets and betrayals while trying to hold everything (and everyone) together. The tension? Unreal. The angst? Off. The. Charts. I’m OBSESSED, like for real!!!
Let’s talk bonds—because holy delicious, slow-burn tension. We get more of Tye and his wolfy protective instincts clashing hard with his need to keep Kaiya at a distance (spoiler: it’s absolutely not working), and I am absolutely FERAL for it. Liam brings his chaotic charm back into the mix, Rien continues to be an adorable forest god cinnamon roll, and the deeper we go, the more tangled these relationships get in all of the best ways. And don’t even get me started on the dreams, SOOOO CRYPTIC and delicious, spicy tension in unexpected places (hello, woods), and that hooded stranger. Every chapter just added more layers, more feels, and more reasons for me to be obsessed.
The worldbuilding in this series is something else. Between the corrupted creatures, mysterious experiments, baby dragons (Yes, I got reeled into this series bc of the promise of dragons… and so here I am… predictable), and the looming battle of light versus dark, it’s both epic and deeply emotional. Frexin’s shadow looms large, but Kaiya’s resilience is blinding, even when it feels like she’s shattering. This story hurts—but it also shines with humor, found family vibes, and swoony, BEAUTIFUL chaos. That ending!? It nearly destroyed me… EMOTIONAL DAMAGE. And with that I need the next book immediately. Happy Release Day (1 day late, sorry… cracked my tooth yesterday and didnt get to post this!)
📖 ✨ Shadow of the Forsaken ✨ 🧚♀️ Olivia K. Moto 📚 Her Forsaken Mates #2
Forsaken HeIIs ! WHAT A BOOK !! I just finished devouring it and I genuinely have GOOSEBUMPS!
My apologies, let me start from the beginning ..
🖤 Shadow of the Forsaken 🖤 is the second installment in the wonderful Why choose Romantasy series which picks up right where book 1 left us in that massive cliffhanger!
Let me show you the tropes : 🗡️ Romantasy 🐺 Why Choose 🍃 Mate Bonds (yup PLEURAL) 🖤 Slow burn and ANGST 🗡️ Sassy Fierce FMC 🐺 MINE 🍃 Forbidden Magic 🖤 One Cabin 🗡️ Omg THE DREAMS 🥵 🐺 Unique Magic System 🍃 Fantastical Creatures 🖤 Adorable Dragonling 🗡️ Emotional Rollercoaster
Olivia OUTDID herself with this one ! She had the herculean task of character and world building! And she did an amazing job! The plot, the character development, the slow burn, the DREAMS, the pacing .. everything was utter perfection! She even added a glossary in the beginning to acquaint us -mere mortals- with the system of magic and its intricacies! Trust me when I say this unique magic system will HOOK you !
This is book 2, so I can't go in much detail inorder to avoid spoilers , but lemme just say , the amount of emotions this book pulled out of me , I laughed, I SOBBED , I giggled, I swooned and sobbed some more ! Thank you 🧚🏻♀️Olivia K. Moto🧚🏻♀️ for this granting us this opportunity to read and review this amazing ARC Soo excited for the next part💕
What a WILD ride! Author Olivia K Moto did it again in book 2. Once I started this book it was so hard to put down. There were so many twists and turns I almost caught whiplash! I love the character development of Kaiya and the development of all of her bonds in book 2. We get an inside look into what’s going on in Tye’s head and I’ve enjoyed seeing things from his perspective. The author does a beautiful job at writing the characters, she knows how to get you to really hate someone. There were a few characters who I wanted to reach on the pages and punch. There are characters who are so damn mysterious I still can’t figure them out. And of course, all of Kaiya’s bonds are loved in their own way and for different reasons. I cannot wait for the next book, especially with that cliffhanger we were left with.
In book 2, Kaiya finds herself prisoner to the Reaper. Desperate to right her wrongs and free the other prisoners that the Reaper has captured, Kaiya finds herself striking a deal with the devil. Kaiya has a plan to fulfill her end of the bargain, “Don’t think. Don’t feel. Just obey.” But that is definitely harder than it sounds. Kaiya must learn who she can trust, how she can circumvent the tricky rules the Reaper has set forth, all while trying to save the people who whom she cares about. Meanwhile, Tye does everything in his power to resist Kaiya and the mate bond that has awoken between them. He makes a deal with the Reaper and betrays Kaiya more than once. He is desperate to keep her safe but also is fighting to keep the wolf at bay and remain in control. Will the bond overcome him or will he be able to resist the temptation and be able to control his wolfy instincts?
I feel mad. And sad. And hella stressed. I can't do this anymore. These cliffhangers are killing me. My heart is broken. This writer has broken my heart. No, stomped on my heart, kicked it around a few times, and set it on fire. This book is a rollercoaster. The first half, you're going up, you hear the clicking and it's jerky, and you just want to get to the top. That's how I felt all through the first half of this book, just anxious to get to the good stuff. While I’m invested in the story, I can’t deny how overwhelming it feels at times. There’s just so much going on—with Kaiya, the guilt-ridden FMC, and five MMCs: Jaiel, Liam, Tye, Rien, and Lynk. Their interactions add complexity, but keeping track of it all can be challenging. The second half, oh, I screamed. I could not stop reading and there were so many things going on, but at the same time, not enough things going on. I wanted more, while knowing I couldn't take much more. The writing leans heavily into details, spanning 600 pages per book—and yet, it ends on a cliffhanger. Not the satisfying kind where you feel like you’ve reached the end of a season, but one that feels like the story stops abruptly mid-sentence. It’s emotionally taxing to keep waiting for closure. This is without a doubt the slowest reverse harem burn I've ever read and honestly, I'm not sure if I love it or hate it. I hate it because I have to wait for the next book, but I love it because I know there will be a next book. That said, the rollercoaster of emotions is undeniably engaging. Ultimately, this series is perfect for readers with patience, who thrive on intricate storytelling and who can tolerate unresolved endings. If closure is your thing, beware—it might leave you stressed and longing for more.
𝗗𝗥𝗔𝗚𝗢𝗡𝗦. 𝗠𝗔𝗚𝗜𝗖. 𝗕𝗢𝗡𝗗𝗦. 𝗖𝗛𝗔𝗢𝗦.. I’m not saying this book 𝘰𝘸𝘯𝘴 me now, but I’m also not 𝘯𝘰𝘵 saying that.
From 𝙧𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙘-𝙝𝙪𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙙𝙫𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚𝙨 to 𝘬𝘪𝘥𝘯𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴, 𝘴𝘭𝘢𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺, 𝘴𝘦𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘵 𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘴, 𝘴𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘤, 𝘸𝘰𝘭𝘧 𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘴, and YES—𝗱𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗼𝗻𝘀—this book brings ALL the epic fantasy fuel. And smack dab in the middle of it all? 𝗞𝗮𝗶𝘆𝗮—an absolute bad*ss of an FMC who isn’t afraid to do what needs to be done, even if it means sacrificing herself for the people she loves. She’s got grit, heart, and a willingness to get messy that I LIVE for.
Let’s talk 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗺—this one is 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 than anything I’ve read in the genre, and honestly? I 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 that. Even if you’re someone who normally avoids RH, this one leans more 𝘦𝘱𝘪𝘤 𝘧𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘴𝘺 𝘢𝘥𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘳𝘰𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘤 𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯 than anything else. Think 𝙏𝙤𝙢𝙗 𝙍𝙖𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙧 meets 𝙄𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙖𝙣𝙖 𝙅𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙨 but make it 𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭. The 𝘀𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗯𝘂𝗿𝗻 is REAL, the tension is 𝘱𝘢𝘭𝘱𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦, and yes—dream sequences that will have you holding your breath.
Book two dives 𝘥𝘦𝘦𝘱𝘦𝘳 into the characters, and the growth from the first book? SO satisfying. You get more backstory, more layers, more BONDS—and some 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘥 plot twists that had me shouting at my Kindle.
Now, 𝗣𝗦𝗔: It’s mentioned you don’t 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 to read the first book before diving into this one—but I’m going to hard disagree on that. Between the complex 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱-𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀, and the layered 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗱𝘆𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗰𝘀, you’ll be confused for half the book if you skip the first. Do yourself a favor and start from book one. Trust me.
Moto’s writing is honestly some of the 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗳𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘀𝘆 I’ve read. And the emotional range makes it a fantastic addition to my romantasy collection.
This book started off with a lot of character and world building. You are able to know the thoughts and feelings of Kaiya, Liam and Tye in this book. We will start getting to know Rein a bit as well. Unfortunately, we only get to know of our favorite Fae Prince’s fate and see him briefly in this story.
This book covers Kaiya, Tye, and Liam’s journeys for the entirety of the story. You will travel aboard Frexin’s airships, travel back to the Isle, visit Berserkers, and begin to unravel the secrets Frexin has been keeping. There is loads of information that is gained in the second half of the book that is crucial for our FMC to use to save the people from the Kings. Kaiya and Liam work with the imprisoned people of the Isle, albeit reluctantly with most because of their dislike of her, to escape the Frexin’s sinister plans. There will be points of frustration, rage, helplessness, pain, sadness (I shed a tear), relief, disbelief, and joy. This book will take you on a roller coaster of a journey. I can only imagine what the remaining books in the series will bring us. Final note* This book continues with the theme ‘slow burn’ and minimal spice.
Some personal thoughts and possible spoilers… Kaiya seems to spiral everyday into the same negative thought space. She is constantly telling herself that if she continues to be a martyr and follow orders that Frexin will make everything better. I don’t understand why she doesn’t think through other scenarios and it drove me nuts. I have mixed feelings about the mate bond between Tye and Kaiya. He seems to not want it but eventually succumbs to it. I am having a hard time seeing their ‘I hate you, but sometimes lust after you’ bond being very healthy. I hope to understand it better in the upcoming series.

All right, I got over my hangover of the first book, and right into the second book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ had more 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
Again, I didn’t have any preconceived ideas of what the story was about when I went to the first book to flow into this second book. And all I can say is, I have never read such an epic fantasy that had me on the edge of my seats in a very long time.
The first book does end on a bit of a cliffhanger, but the second book picks up right where we are left off .
Hunting relics, and then we have a kidnapping, we have slaves, we have hidden identities brought to light. We have dragons, we have wolf shifters, we have people who didn’t know they had magic because it was suppressed. And we have a strong FMC who has no problem doing what she is told in order to save her friends - Even if it means sacrificing herself.
Again, this reverse hair is very different than any other that I have read. And I love that. So if you’re someone that doesn’t like reverse harem, don’t worry this is a little bit different, and I think you’ll like it if you like, epic fantasies, magic, dragons, and again it gives me tomb raider meets Indiana Jones vibes with some magic.
It is very slow burn, but dare I say Dream sequence…..the tension is palpable with all of these characters. And let’s talk about the character growth from book one to book 2. Each character in book 2 gets deeper and we find out so much more about them. Let’s not forget BONDS!! So many interesting turn of events.
Kaiya is one bada55 who doesn’t mind getting dirty, and did I say Dragons!!! Keep an eye out for Serali, definitely want to put her in my pocket.
The writing that Moto brings us in my opinion is some of the best epic fantasy. I’ve seen in a very long time. And yes, I have read all of your top fantasy books, and this right here is EPIC
I cried, laughed and wanted to throw my kindle at times
I am so excited for the conclusion of the series. And I will say I did reach out to the author after I read it, because I literally was torn, like balling, and I had to know when the next book is coming out. And let’s hope it all works out that maybe we’ll have it before the end of the year.
Now now I will be reading the prequel, because again I was left wanting more.
‼️Yep this one has a cliffhanger so prepare, but it’s an EPIC one!!!

If you don’t know me yet, I am a legit why choose girly. I love the genre. I love that it’s usually decently spicy, the characters are always diverse and most of the time you get that warm and fuzzy found family mentality. That being said, these books don’t usually emotionally wreck me to the point of tears. The characters in Shadow of the Forsaken are so complex. Everyone ranges from morally grey to black. The setting is very dystopian and each person is just trying to survive with some amount of their soul intact. Kaiya and all of the people who surround her are struggling against possibly the most evil female villain I have ever encountered and through it all we are learning more about this insanely intense world. The second book in a fantasy series can be difficult for me to connect with, they can seem just like connecting pieces without real resolution. Shadow of the Forsaken felt like another chapter in this story, rather than just a means to an end. There was a natural progression towards a stopping point where we will regroup and prepare for the next set of challenges. There are so many funny moments. The characters back stories are thought provoking and at times heartbreaking. The banter is great. The spice is scorching, secondary to the plot and appropriately spread throughout. I genuinely bawled near the end and I was speechless when it was all over. What more could you ask for? This review is purposefully vague because I don’t want to ruin a bit of this story for anyone. It is something special and I am so glad to have had the opportunity to read it! Shadow of the Forsaken will be out 4/10/25 and I highly recommend it.
Ok, that was actually insane. I loved every second of this instalment, and I need to know what happens next.
This was kind of heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time. We jump right back into it after the events that occurred when Bonds of The Forsaken concluded. What Kaiya, Tye, Liam, Jaiel and Rien went through was utterly soul destroying, but it was also beautiful because it all brought them closer together in a way that is unique to their bond, even Lynk. We see Kaiya, Tye, and Liam converse on a deeper level, and it's so obvious that both Tye and Liam are in love with Kaiya but either can't/ don't want to acknowledge it or don't realise it yet. I liked that we got to know Tye and Liam more. Also, how sweet is Rien? I really love his innocence. It just sucks that Kaiya has been "trained" to obey everything Frexin says for her to do because she knows that Frexin will hurt everyone she cares about. There are so many twists and turns in this story. It's definitely a roller coaster of emotions, so prepare yourselves.
Does anyone else get the feeling that Kaiya is something more? She is so powerful, and I feel like we are on the cusp on learning what she truly is (I think I know). Do we think she is more powerful than Frexin? That ending was mind- blowing, and it kind of made me realise something...
Thank you so much, Olivia and your beautiful team, for the opportunity to read this story. I am extremely blessed 🙏
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶🌶
🖤 why choose 🖤 slow burn 🖤 unique magic system 🖤 fated mates 🖤 powerful fmc 🖤 fantasy 🖤 shifters, fae, mages, monsters, etc 🖤 so much more
These books are just good old fashioned fun, like something you’d read as a kid, except make it for grown ups 🌶️🤭
We return to the Isle of the Forsaken to find Kaiya trapped and forced to bind innocent people to a monster with her bond magic by the Reaper for some greater purpose (which we are yet to find out about). Kaiya’s only goal at this point is to free the prisoners in line to be force-bonded and make her escape from the Reaper. Her plans backfire and she is forced into hunting a relic (beings with powerful magic), led by a lieutenant who just happens to be one of her 5 bonded mates.
There is a lot going on in this book, and I was a bit lost at times because it’s been a while since I read book 1, so I would definitely recommend to read them back to back. Also reading the prequel, Forsaken Secrets, would be beneficial. The events in the book take place over only a few days so the pacing is quick and there’s action on every page. It’s worth paying attention and not staying up really late to read, as much as you may want to ….. 🙋🏼♀️🙈
My favourite aspect of this book, aside from the pacing, is the characters. The 5 bonded mates are all uniquely different and we get to know a couple of them much better in this book. Rien would have to be my fave - but only in his little green form! Not to mention Serali, the sassy baby dragon, who makes me wish dragons could actually be pets 🤪
This was a super fun little romp through an intriguing fantasy land with some great characters, a nice bit of spice and some interesting little carrots dangled for the next book!
Shadow of the Forsaken is out on April 10!! Thanks Olivia for providing me with an early copy 😍
