How I long to carve this well! The Caricature Carvers of America are among the best carvers in the world and I so long to be able to express myself like this. Their characters are so well designed and carved often with a single knife stroke communicating so much emotion. This book, which is aimed at intermediate carvers, presents 50 different designs by 50 different artists. Each piece is presented in a two page spread with color photos taken from different angles on the right and black and white drawings of the piece on the left. Most artists also include some tips or a brief biography on themselves. The pieces include a myriad of designs including animals, pirate, cowboys, sports figures, trolls and a boy scout. If I have any complaint about this book and the CCA, it is that they carve so few female characters. Yes, I know the difficulties of carving a woman’s softer features, but that is exactly why I would like some help in that area! I highly recommend that the readers "read" all the tips presented as they give many suggestions for refining your carving from an average to a superb piece.
