This is an OK time-travel romance, but I did have some issues with it.
First off, Eleanor adapted to her unexpected time-travel way too easily to believe. I think she would have been a lot more freaked out by it then she was. Also, the highlanders would have been much more concerned with her strange talk and clothes than they were. They just kept thinking she must be "daft", and accepted her behavior as normal for someone from America. It seemed like they just accepted all her differences too easily. I didn't buy it.
For the most part, I liked both Eleanor and Finlay, but I did get irritated with them a few times. Finlay was very controlling and bossy, which Eleanor did not appreciate. She told him she was from a faraway place, where women were much more independent, so he should not have expected her to allow him to boss her around. He should have taken the time to explain why it was not safe for her to be so independent. He did get better, but it took him a while. Eleanor kept doing stupid stuff, which meant Finlay had to rescue her a lot, and that was irritating.
I didn't buy that Eleanor and Finlay were in love. They were definitely in lust, but they just didn't spend enough time together for me to believe in their love connection. Finlay also annoyed her a lot when he kept telling her what to do.
I also thought that this story was very similar to the others in the series. There is unexpected time-travel, the h is rescued by a hot highlander, causes trouble with her modern ideas, falls in love with the hot highlander, needs to be rescued again, and then everything ends in an HEA. This one did have the difference of Eleanor helping with Finlay's curse, but the plot was still very similar to the other books. Many of the scenes, like the love scenes and wedding scenes, are also very similar in all the books in the series.
The story was mildly entertaining, and I did like Irene, so I did finish all the books in the series -- but I probably would not have if they weren't free with Kindle Unlimited. Because of the issues I noted above, this one gets 3 stars from me.
My rating system is below.
1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it.
2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws.
3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.
4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.
5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
