As winter approaches the valley where his family's farm is located, a boy reflects back with vivid memories and detail and description of one winter when he accompanied his older brother into the nearby owl woods to wait the approaching snow storm with the hopes of seeing the owl before heading back to the farm.

This is one of the best children's books ever and now I have lost it somewhere. Signed on to buy another one and the least expensive is over $73?! I really hope they publish this again as it is such a wonderful, heart warming book. A literary treasure!

A (surprisingly) lyrical story about watching the first snow of the year. I love the painterly illustrations -- they really set the tone for this book. I also like the relationship between the siblings and the warmth the home seems to embody at the end. But depending on the child, I'm afraid it might be a little long for a book without much action.

The beautiful illustrations in this book nicely compliment the cozy rhythm of the text. It almost lulls you to sleep alongside the characters as they follow a snow storm through the night time. This book touches on the rite of passage between two siblings and their commune with nature, while nicely capturing the essence of winter through a child's eyes.
