I had started reading Bonds of the Forsaken, but felt like I was missing information. Then I found that there was this prequel book. Really glad I chose to read this first. It provided a lot of context around the relationships, going into Bonds of the Forsaken.
While it is a prequel, it is a full book on its own. It has adventure and intrigue and sexual tension; you get introduced to a lot of the key characters for the series and get a feel for the magic system and the world that is being built in this series. I really enjoyed this book and read it all in one sitting. I like the main characters and really hope things get better for their relationships in the next book. The FMC is an interesting mix of a strong independent woman and someone who needs help and saving. She is a complex character with faults and weaknesses, a complicated history, and personal struggles. I found my self empathizing with her.
The connection she develops with the two MMCs in this book does seem a bit unrealistically quick, but I feel like there’s going to be a reason to explain that later down the line. I’m eager to see where this story goes and how the relationships develop further, especially given how this book needed.

This story was really exciting to read! It has adventure, love and great world building. I can not wait for book 2!!!!!

What a cracking debut!!
This is a well-developed world setting with various magics and creatures, it could become complicated but the author has managed to maintain a complexity that draws you in without it being too overwhelming. I loved that the glossary was at the beginning, that really helped to underpin the story.
The FMC Kaiya is fiercely independent, and wants to deal with her problems on her own. She’s is forever my loyal and protective of what family she has left. Her heart is absolutely in the right place but sometimes when trying to help it goes all wrong - making her entirely relatable! She faces some seriously tough decisions but you get to see her strength throughout. She’s trying to keep her secrets safe whilst trying to forge her own path and rise above the poor situation she is in with the Ellingsworths.
Oooooo the men - seriously infuriating but with redeeming qualities. For Eli it’s a good job we get his POV to understand his reasoning for his actions! Lynk is protective but an entire mystery and his involvement at the end…..did not see that coming!! Jaiel comes in a lot later in the book, like the last quarter, so it’ll be really interesting to see how he slides into the dynamic. There’s some serious angst going on between them all and risks of heartache, but there is hope 😍
This is a slow-burn (which I don’t tend to normally read) but the action and intrigue certainly made up for that and kept me reading! You have to read this thoroughly to pick up all the details to follow the adventure (including who’s betrayed who, who is the actual big bad, who are they hoping the saviour will be etc) but it is so worth it.
Cannot wait to see how this develops in the rest of the series. 💚

J’attendais beaucoup de ce roman, dont son résumé m’avait énormément tenté… Et quelle surprise ! L’autrice est allée au-delà de toutes mes attentes et je suis tout simplement époustouflée.

J'aurais dû laisser ce seigneur imprudent sauter depuis la falaise du barrage.
Avec un magistrat corrompu qui me souffle dans le cou, une affinité magique à garder cachée et ma propension illégale à la chasse aux reliques, c'est tout ce que je peux faire pour empêcher tante Grace et moi-même de vivre dans le dénuement.
Il n'y a plus de temps pour personne d'autre !
Pas pour le mage bien trop joyeux, Lord Elimri Westin, qui se sent redevable envers moi de lui avoir sauvé la vie. Ni pour l'épineux chasseur de monstres, Lynk, qui semble penser que son travail consiste à me protéger. Et pas pour Jaiel, le prince Fae suffisant qui ne se soucie que de lui-même.
Non, je suis mieux seule.
Mais le magistrat ne lâche rien, et une brève conversation avec sa femme fait s'effondrer tout mon monde.
Maintenant, ma dernière chance de garder tante Grace en sécurité consiste à localiser une relique rare dans les ruines près de notre domaine.
C'est une longue quête et je vais devoir faire équipe avec ces hommes difficiles pour l’accomplir... mais est-ce que j’ai d’autres choix ?

Je pense que mon avis va être un peu brouillon car même si cela fait plusieurs jours que j’ai terminé ce roman, je ressens encore une telle excitation en repensant à ma lecture que j’ai de la difficulté à faire de l’ordre dans mes pensées.
Ce roman a été un vrai pageturner pour moi. Dès les premières lignes, je me suis laissée entraîner par le style d’écriture de l’autrice. Le texte est fluide, bien découpé de sorte à ce que la lecture reste légère et facile, malgré la complexité de l’univers. J’apprécie beaucoup le travail qu’a fait l’autrice sur la construction de l’univers et le contexte de l’histoire. On a les informations dès le début et s’il reste des révélations ou des détails à savoir, on les sait au bon moment, ce qui permet d’apprécier l’histoire comme il faut.
Le personnage de Kaiya m’a beaucoup touchée. C’est une femme au grand cœur, courageuse, ambitieuse et indépendante. Elle ne souhaite rien d’autre que protéger sa famille et cherche à régler ses problèmes par elle-même, tout en se donnant les moyens d’y arriver. Évidemment, Kaiya reste humaine et j’ai apprécié le fait qu’elle ait des moments de doutes, des moments où en fait, elle a besoin des autres pour accomplir certaines choses. Elle dit qu’elle est mieux d’être seule mais finalement, sa quête en compagnie d’Elimri, de Lynk et de Jaiel va la faire grandir et lui montrer que parfois, il n’y a pas de mal à compte sur les autres. Suivre ce groupe et leurs aventures m’a fait m’attacher à eux. J’apprécie beaucoup leur alchimie, leurs interactions et leurs différences de personnalité. Ils n’ont rien en commun et pourtant, ils se complètent. Au fil des pages, chacun va se révéler indispensable pour l’autre et j’ai vraiment aimé apprendre à les connaître.
Concernant l’intrigue et la quête, je ne m’attendais pas du tout aux événements qui se sont passés. C’était surprenant et rafraîchissant. L’histoire est dynamique et le rythme ne fait que s’accélérer pour terminer sur un cliffhanger.
Je suis impatiente de connaître la suite !

I think my opinion is going to be a bit messy because even though it has been several days since I finished this book, I still feel such excitement as I think back to my reading that I’m having difficulty putting things in order my minds.
This book was a real pageturner for me. From the first lines, I let myself be carried away by the author's writing style. The text is fluid, well cut so that the reading remains light and easy, despite the complexity of the universe. I really appreciated the author's work on the construction of the universe and the context of the story. We have the information right from the start and if there are any revelations or details to know, we know them at the right time, which allows us to appreciate the story properly.
The character of Kaiya touched me a lot. She is a big-hearted, courageous, ambitious and independent woman. She wants nothing more than to protect her family and seeks to solve her problems on her own, while giving herself the means to do so. Obviously, Kaiya is still human and I appreciated the fact that she has times of doubts, times when she finally needs others to accomplish certain things. She thinks that she’s better to be alone but ultimately her quest with of Elimri, Lynk and Jaiel will make her grow and show her that sometimes there’s no harm in relying on others. Following this group and their adventures made me become attached to them. I really appreciated their chemistry, their interactions and their differences in personality. They have nothing in common and yet they complement each other. As the pages go, each will prove to be indispensable for the other and I really enjoyed getting to know them.
Regarding the plot and the quest, I didn't expect the events that happened at all. It was surprising and refreshing. The story is dynamic and the pace only picks up to end on a cliffhanger.
I can't wait for the sequel!

I loved it!! There's an incredible magical world that sucks you in. You meet the FMC Kaiya, and her three men Eli, Jaiel, and Lynx. There is adventure, love, family, struggles, secrets and more. The fantasy world that she created is amazing with many layers to it. The book is descriptive and easy to visualize, I got lost in the pages. It's different than other PRN I've read recently which is always refreshing. In the beginning there is a glossary that helps really helps to understand the story - definitely read it. The story is complex but laid out well making it easy enough to follow along. This is a slow burn RH which aren't always my favorite, but absolutely worth the wait here. The character development is great, leaving me wanting to learn so much more about each of them, and watch them continue to work on their relationships. There better be some groveling ahead, I'm just saying... I'm a huge fan of multiple POV's also. I was not expecting the ending, but it left me dying to know more! There are so many questions without answers, and I will sit patiently (mostly..) waiting for the next book to find out what happens next!!❤

Foresaken Secrets is the first book in a new series by a new author and I am so excited. This book is a fantastic mix of fantasy and steampunk goodness.
Here we meet Kaiya. She lost her parents several years before the start of the book and lives with her aunt. Treasure hunting in the ruins around her estate and the town, she learns to how to find relics, avoid Seekers and the guards, and scrounge up enough money to keep her and her aunt safe.
One day, we meet Eli. He’s such a fun character. Quirky and fun loving, we can quickly see that he and Kaiya are meant to be. Even if they deny it.
We meet Lynk. I think he’s my favorite of the guys. Strong and silent, exasperated by Kaiya’s and Eli’s antics, but deep down we know he would protect her at all costs.
We meet Jaiel. Now, we don’t see much of him in this book, but I can guess he’ll be a riot in the rest of the series.
There is so much that happens at the end of the book setting up for the next one. Olivia did a great job with character and world building. I can’t wait for book 2!

One day, we meet Eli. He’s such a fun character. Quirky and fun loving, we can quickly see that he and Kaiya are meant to be. Even if they deny it.
We meet Lynk. I think he’s my favorite of the guys. Strong and silent, exasperated by Kaiya’s and Eli’s antics, but deep down we know he would protect her at all costs.
We meet Jaiel. Now, we don’t see much of him in this book, but I can guess he’ll be a riot in the rest of the series.
There is so much that happens at the end of the book setting up for the next one. Olivia did a great job with character and world building. I can’t wait for book 2!

Olivia K. Moto’s debut was phenomenal! The description pulled me in initially, and the story itself had me finishing it in no time at all once I got my hands on it. Her world building, storytelling and characters are amazing. The descriptions of the world and all it’s unique creatures really made me feel like I was truly a part of it. Her creatures are unique, and unlike anything I’ve read about before. To be honest, this whole book is like nothing I’ve read as of yet, which is a feat considering I usually end up reading 5 books a week at least.
The book starts off kind of slow, but then by the second half it picks up and is action packed, fast-paced and intense. It leaves you with an emotional cliffhanger that will leave you needing the next book to find out what happens. This book is definitely a binge-worthy read.
This has a fast-paced adventure, while the romance is slow-burn, which is amazing to see how their friendships turn to more.

Yes yes YES!!! What a debut!!! This book blew me away! It sucks you and don't let go. It's set in a magical world full of creatures, monster hunters and mages! This book was very different than any of the books I've ever read. The world Olivia created literally is out of this world! Kaiya, the FMC, is a strong willed women with great head on her shoulders. You instantly fall in love with her and the guys she meets. This is a slow burn, magical story! I can't wait to see where Kaiya goes from here and to see the relationship between her and the guys grow! 😍😍😍

This book was a fantastic read that I finished in one sitting. It moves along at a great pace making for an enjoyable read in which you can lose yourself in. It has amazing characters that no matter what happens you cannot help but fal in love with them. The story will grab you keeping you reading till you have finished the last page. You will be unable to put it down. This book needs to be read, there is no doubt about it.

The gaslight fantasy world she has built is magical and has that old timey feel to it. Though the langue through her dialogue doesn’t come off as Victorian, it radiates an essence of an old time world in a land far-far away. She builds most the world through her story telling, by using the character’s clothing choices and the location descriptions.
Right from the first chapter, Kaiya is on an adventure and you are pulled into a ruined world with a destroyed history. Monsters are lurking everywhere and magic is forsaken. There is an underlying tone of danger and excitement as you read; but there is also that twinge of romance that perfumes the air and you can’t help but get lost in the relationships.
Kaiya is an easy heroine to get a long with… well for the reader, maybe not the poor men in her life. But she is spunky with a side of kick ass. And yet, Olivia gave her a dark mysterious side as she deals with grief and the need to protect the people she loves in her life. I get the feeling there are more layers to this character that Moto has not revealed to us yet. So, I am very much looking forward to her next book.
The boys in our little not-quite-a-harem-yet are characters in their own right. Each one has a unique personality that embodies them. And, I for one, am very thankful this is a why choose book series.
Eli is your best friend that you can’t help but go, “Oh honey,” to all the time! Jaiel is the fae prince with a god complex. Then there is Lynk, our monster hunter with Witcher vibes emanating from his korra. I just crave more of these boys! There was such a great balance with them individually with Kaiya, but the best was with all three together in a room without her. It just shows that Oliva has strength in writing her male character’s and scenes. Hopefully, the next book plays more with this dynamic trio in scenes together!
Storyline wise, this book had a good basis with the financial struggle and regret that Kaiya is facing with her Uncle’s death. But what I really enjoy is the “bigger picture” plot line. The one that I know will continue through the series. The fact that Moto created a whole history of these people and underground cults and even secrets with their pasts is captivating. It’s like she keeps hinting that there is much more going on, but she just wont tell us! And still… I am stoked for what is to come from this book series and author.

Overall, I give this book a 4.5 stars! The multiple point of views were very well handled and made you questioning and wanting more at the end, never giving too much away. The characters were vibrant and fun, while the evil characters were just rotten – as they should be. Her attention to relationships with the men was well executed and I can not wait to see what is going to happen with her harem going forward.
I will caution that this is a slow burner and has no smutty parts… well there is a little steam. But this first book is a good appetizer to the main course that I feel will be coming.
Olivia Moto may be a new author, but she is a newbie that is worth your time to try out. I bet she will produce some great things in the future. The korra is strong with this one!

Olivia K Moto’s Forsaken Secrets was a book with a very unique plot. I can truthfully say that I could not find any resemblance to any other work I have read in my lifetime. Forsaken Secrets is the first part of the Isle of the Forsaken series and is a setting that the world needs to read about.
The protagonists of Kaiya, Eli and Lynk along with the side characters of the Halsteads, Aunt Grace and Sylvie were all memorable and true support system of our protagonist.
The setting of Gleyma City with a corrupt government, a discriminated society sect, the rich-poor divide and the biggest – the city built upon a vast network of ruins now infested with wild creatures is very interesting. I only wish I had the guts to follow Kaiya in a world such as that.
Eli, the maybe love interest of Kaiya is not an Alpha male. It should be cleared up that the book is a fantasy adventure book and not overly focused on the romance; atleast in the Forsaken Secrets.
I think the prologue at the end was a masterstroke. I will definitely be waiting for Book 2.

What a debut! I just finished this book and am still feeling a little emotionally wrung out. In a good way. This book takes you on a journey with the characters. The world building is fantastic. Kaiya, the main female character, is stubbornly determined to do things her own way. She made a promise to her dying uncle to care for her aunt in his absence, and she takes that very seriously. I admire her persistence amidst the circumstances, and enjoy that even though she is attracted to her "new friends", she doesn't let lust overshadow her senses. Her ideas often get her into trouble, but she faces the consequences with strength and grit. She doesn't allow herself to be a damsel in distress; she finds her own solutions. I found myself very frustrated with Lynk by the end of the book, and I look forward to him explaining his behavior in the next book. Eli, even though he isn't completely honest with her about who he really is, stole my heart. His growing feelings for Kaiya are sweet, and he doesn't push her because she's not ready to give in to her own feelings yet. I don't know what to think of Jaiel. His place in the story isn't yet clear, but he is intriguing. I guess I'll find out when the next book is released. ;)

Intriguing Start to a Magical World
Forsaken Secrets is a debut release by new author Olivia Moto and it's a worthy first release. I would classify this as a high fantasy, in that the setting does not appear to take place on Earth, or even in a world where Earth exists. This is a world full of magic and mythical creatures - many types I've never heard of. In fact there are many concepts in this story that are unique to anything else I have ever read.
While the story felt just a tad slow in the beginning, and some of the relationship dynamics came together faster than I expected, the latter half of the story was action packed and gripping with several intense moments. I was fully locked in for those scenes. I'll be keeping an eye out for book two so I can hopefully see Kaiya hand a few of these men their rears. 😄

A fantastic new world that lures you in with promises of adventure, love and action then keeps you there with the trials, tribulations and consequences that our heroine and heroes must go through to achieve it. The first book just reels you in and keeps you turning the pages to find out what happens next! Definitely a slow burn RH but I think that the build up will lead to an explosive love between our leading lady and the mages and fae who will love her. The storyline is believable and the world introduces you to some new animals and concepts of magic. It's utterly enthralling.

This is the first book I read by this author and I was not disappointed. It is written in the characters POVs which I love. Kaiya is a strong FMC who is trying to hold on to her estate with her aunt. She meets some interesting men Eli, Lynk, Jaiel. I don't want to give any spoilers away. But you can expect magic and lots of twists in this book. I highly recommend.

I don't want to say to much about this book but it is well worth the read so you will just have to pick up a copy and have a read for yourself but i will say you will not be dissapointed

I loved this book. The animal sidekicks, the chick treasure hunter and the mysterious guys make this story super enjoyable. I was starting to get reverse harem vibes but this story is clean. Maybe in the next book. This story sucked me in and I can’t wait to read more. It got a little confusing at the end, when all the powers started manifesting but it was still very entertaining. Thank you, Olivia K. Moto, for this arc which I happily give my unbiased review.

A rollercoaster of the best kind!
This was a rollercoaster of the best kind. It wasn't a cliffhanger of stressful proportions, it was a cliffhanger that makes you NEED to come back. So many unanswered questions, so much assumed betrayal, so many unformed love interests. Serious I can not WAIT for the next book!

I wanted to love this book. I did. Instead, I finished it filled with annoyance.
tl;dr: The world is fascinating and none of the characters do it justice. I think the background and world-building is fantastic and I wish the story itself stood up to it.
FMC is thoughtless and self-centered. Potential MCs have no real respect for her, lie to her repeatedly, and use her over and over. All she does is say, “I must save my aunt” and somehow that justifies everything. By the time we got to the point where a mysterious character tries to make her doubt herself (i presume as a plot device intended to make her double down and believe in herself for some sort of growth), I frankly agreed with the mysterious character. A mess.
Not to mention the logic gaps (like a severely wounded person supposedly able to climb cliffs).

The world was super interesting with all the creatures as I'm a sucker for animal sidekicks, but I found the character development to be a bit light and cliche, and the romance was pretty minimal for a reverse-harem story. The villain plot was a little one-dimensional, and I didn't feel like the characters were very complex. I was still incredibly confused at how the magic worked, exactly how much of a secret it was, the korra realm, and the great revelation with by the end of the novel.
I'll probably pick up the next book to see how the relationships develop and what the whole deal with magic is.
