James Madison and the Future of Limited Government

Rate this book
The essays in this volume use Madison to engage such contemporary issues as multiculturalism, federalism, the emerging democracies, the scope of international law, and faith-based policy and politics. This book speaks to both the past and present of the American republic.

A collection of essays on Madison's constitutional views. A few of the essays are boring (eg Tom Palmer's) but a handful are definitely worth reading:

-Nobel laureate James Buchanan's essay on Madison's "angels"

-McDonald's comparison of Jefferson and Madison's constitutional philosophies

-Jim Dorn on what Madison's achievement can say to emerging countries

-John Samples on direct democracy and where Madison went wrong.
