Despite having the word "chum" in it, the first book with the blander title is much better. That's the Project Gutenberg curse; anything with a funny title is bound to be boring. The Flying Girl has characterization, and the dialogue is better. The sequel is a boring island survival story. That part takes up half the book, and the rest of the story is about our heroines defeating a Mexican pirate, which is less entertaining than it sounds. Read the Flying Girl, but pass on reading Her Chum.

A fantastic adventure, a planewreck in the pacific Ocean, two young women, Orissa and Sybil, must survive until they can get help, but when help arrives the adventure is just beginning.

Perhaps not quite as good as the first one, but thoroughly enjoyable.
