Good to the Last Death #12

Having the Time of My Midlife

Rate this book
Midlife is madness and the crisis is expensive… to my sanity.

Just when I think everything is calming down, it ramps back up to eleven. On what should be one of the happiest and most romantic days of my life, the unthinkable happens.

The ghosts I’d so kindly guided into the Light showed up on my front porch, including my dead husband.

Something or someone is messing with the balance and if it’s not remedied, the Darkness will destroy the world.

I really don’t have time for that crap.

With the love of my Immortal life and my batsh*t crazy friends by my side, I’ll take on the Higher Power and show It a thing or two; like what true faith means. No one is going to play life and death games with me. If they do… they’ll lose.

Wish me luck, because this time next week, I plan to be having the time of my midlife.

Oh my gosh, this made me snortle (snort and chortle together, obvy) and ugly cackle. I truly enjoyed it even though I jumped in on this one instead of starting at the beginning (adhd for the win). There are a boatload of characters to keep track of, so it took me a minute to get everyone sorted out but I adored the plot. I was drawn into this world and didn’t want to leave. I can’t wait to go back and start the series from the beginning!

An impromptu wedding with ghosts, the angel of mercy, the grim reaper, the four horseman, and many others seems like the beginning of a joke, but they barely got through the wedding before it all went awry. Daisy gets a visit from some very familiar ghosts, but she knows she helped them into the light. This can’t be a sign of anything good. She tried to be prepared for her visit to The Higher Power, but when she has to play unhinged versions of popular game shows to save ghosts that should be in the light, she feels anything but. Good thing she brought back up.

Thank you to Hambright PR for the ALC, all thoughts are my own.

Wow what a hilarious and fascinating mind Ms. Peterman has. First, let me say that I am not only happy that I knew all three games shows and their host that was referenced and I didn't even have to watch YouTube as I was 8 when the newest show started on tv. This was also a play on a Christmas story which was cool. I love this series because not only are the characters physically very different but they each have a distinctive personality and that has to be difficult given the number of characters in this series. This was funnier and a bit shocking when a couple of the least expecting characters took on lets say, some of the more colorful characters sayings & verbage. A fun, page turning book. I highly recommend but read the books in order to fully understand each character in the series & to meet all of them & their significance to Daisy.

Having the Time of My Midlife by Robyn Peterman is an absolute riot of humor, heart, and supernatural chaos. If you’ve ever wondered what would happen if you mixed midlife crisis with ghosts, immortals, and a hefty dose of sass—this book is your answer. It’s a wild, witty, and downright hilarious ride from start to finish.

The protagonist is a force to be reckoned with. She’s smart, funny, and totally unafraid to take on the insane challenges that come her way—even when those challenges involve her dead husband showing up on her front porch, along with the ghosts she thought she’d helped move on. The wit, snark, and irreverent attitude she brings to every situation make her a character you can’t help but love.

Peterman’s writing is sharp and fast-paced, effortlessly blending lighthearted moments with high-stakes supernatural drama. The world-building is fantastic, with a unique mix of immortality, magic, and ghostly intrigue that keeps the story unpredictable and engaging. The humor shines through in every page, with hilarious banter between the main character and her bat-sh*t crazy friends, making every scene both entertaining and meaningful.

The romance is charming and refreshingly real. The connection between the protagonist and her immortal love is both heartwarming and passionate, offering a perfect balance of fun and emotion. Their chemistry is undeniable, making their partnership one of the book’s highlights.

As for the plot—wow! The stakes couldn’t be higher, with the balance between life and death hanging in the balance. Peterman’s portrayal of the Higher Power, as well as the relentless obstacles that the protagonist faces, creates a suspenseful and thrilling adventure that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Having the Time of My Midlife is a delightful, laugh-out-loud fantasy that’s brimming with heart and magic. Robyn Peterman has once again delivered a fantastic story that is impossible to put down, and I’m already eagerly awaiting her next book. This one is a must-read for fans of supernatural humor, strong heroines, and heartwarming romance!

I fell in love with this series in book 1. Each book gets better than the last. This one was no exception. I laugh so hard reading/listening to these books. They are palate cleaners. If you are a reading slump these books will pull you out of it!

Daisy is hilarious as usual. I’m so glad she and Gideon have finally found their HEA and love their wedding. Now their adorable tiny daughter, (Alana Catherine) pooping seems to be the scene stealer of the wedding.

The reception had some unwanted guests. Daisy and Gideon can’t enjoy their nuptials cause now has to repair the rift and deal with the higher power. It requires her and her dead Grandmother and daughter to solve riddles and questions in a game show. (Past, Present and Future)

Now go read the book to see if they are able to save the world and if you can survive the twists and turns! I highly recommend this series. I do suggest you read the books in order.

Having the Time of My Midlife, a paranormal women's fiction, by Robyn Peterman, is another humorous, laugh-out-loud installment of the Good To The Last Death series.

Uninvited ghosts, including Steve, Daisy’s deceased husband, show up on her doorstep, crashing what should be the most romantic day of Daisy and Gideon's lives.

The happy couple, along with Daisy’s band of supernatural misfits, sets off to correct this imbalance of Light and Dark, sensing the threat as an imminent danger to their supernatural community and to the safety of their family, and the future. Daisy, always crazy, but so compassionate and such an endearing character, is literally up to take on The Higher Power to protect her kind, her family, and her future, and then go back to living her best Midlife!

I loved the themes of mother, maiden, and crone and using special magic of the past, present, and future to manifest miracles. The “future” was a beautiful surprise. I squealed happily when I realized who the “maiden” was. The power of three symbolism is strong and there are several instances in this novel where this theme is present in a fun and unique way. I liked the magical working in the story and I enjoyed seeing old favorites return. Gram’s profanity-laced tirade was over-the-top hysterical, especially coming from a woman who threatens to wash everyone’s mouth out with soap… Little things like this added to both the unpredictability and the humor of this story.

The narrative unfolds quickly, with the looming threat of the darkness taking over, defeating the light. The stakes are as high as it gets: life and death, good versus dark, in a race against time when the past, present, and the future exist together. Having The Time of My Midlife is suspenseful, with imaginative, surprising twists in the plot, and plenty of riotous comedy that made me laugh out loud. Plus, skunks! Yes, a new batch of creatures for Daisy’s supernatural entourage.

And that ending shocked me the most of all. Peterman has me hanging on a ledge that is less stable than Daisy’s grip on reality. This is a spectacular series that I look forward to reading more of!

“‘We’ll make It [the Higher Power - not God, because God is Love] pay,’ Gideon said, reading my mind. ‘And if we have to, we’ll create a new world if that’s what it takes to keep our baby safe.’”

“Anything is possible if you just believe.”

“The End… for now.”

Ya, Robyn, that was heavy. Well, this series is always pretty heavy and leaves me questioning everything I ever believed about God and angels and evil and karma and everything else that is otherworldly.

What stinks is this is another cliffhanger, so to speak. The Immortal Ghostly Crew escaped their situation, but it’s obvious there’s more and it’s up to all of them to save not only Alana Catherine, but the entire world!

So good! You should read this beginning with book 1!

Next is Book 13, “Someone Save My Midlife Tonight.” 13 will be released May 19, 2025.

I’m going to read another one of Peterman’s books from her My So Called Mystical Midlife series, “Johnson Jones’ Diary”. It’s book 5. I’ve read the previous 4, but it has been awhile. Hopefully I can keep up!

See you in my next review.

I love this series! ❤️ Listening is a blast! All of the books in this series are absolutely hilarious with lovable, memorable characters. Again, these are a good time and they’re creative AF!

Jessica Almasy is brilliant!!!! Her character voices make the characters come to life— larger than life—and I giggle 🤭! I cannot sing Almasy’s praises enough. I’m from the South and I can confidently say her accents are spot on!!! I am pretty sure some of her characters are based off people in the town I grew up in!! I could spend this entire review praising Almasy.

Is the chaos over the top? Hell, yes! In Jessica Almasy’s Candy Vargo voice!! I am listening to this book for that reason! My fave character, Candy Vargo, married Daisy and Gideon in the most foul mouthed ceremony ever (What did you expect?). But, Candy wasn’t on the team to go to The Higher Power’s plane of residence. Only Daisy, Alana Catherine, and Gram went. And the biggest plot twist of the book happened there with Gram!!!! It was brilliant and beautiful!! I can’t wait to see how the plot plays out with the knowledge Daisy gained from this book!

This was a fun, quick, paranormal romance read. Yes, this is a long series but it reads quickly. The author also provides a recap of main events which was so helpful. I read this as without reading all of the previous books. I will be going back and reading the other books in the series to catch up. I think this will help me appreciate the storyline even more. The writing was smart and corky. I enjoyed the storyline, game show element, and plot twists. The characters are quite interesting and the storyline was very entertaining. I recommend giving it a try if you enjoy paranormal romance series. It does end on a cliffhanger, so be prepared.

I also listened to the audiobook which was narrated by Jessica Almasy. I enjoyed the narration quality and personality that the narrator brought to the story. She did a great job embodying the characters in the storyline. I would recommended this audiobook for those who are looking for a good paranormal series. Overall, Liked this read.

By Robyn Peterman

Thank you to @hambright_pr and @robynpetermanauthor for gifting me an e-copy of this book.

I know is a pretty long series, but this was the first book I’ve read from it. I now want to go back and start from book one, but I truly didn’t feel like I was missing anything.
This one had me captivated from the very first chapter. I loved the foul language and the banter between the characters. This book will definitely give you a good laugh.
Each character had such a different personality and I’m not sure which one was my favorite. I will definitely be going back to the beginning of the series to have a better understanding of each character and the role they play 🖤

Robyn Peterman very quickly became a must-read author for me with her Good to the Last Death series. Book 12 did not disappoint. Daisy is back with all of our favorite characters from immortals to ghosts to humans. This book starts with the (in my opinion) long-awaited wedding of Daisy and Gideon. There are of course plot twists aplenty and Daisy finds herself in a world-ending crisis but in the most entertaining way possible. I love how intense the plot twists and problems are while still staying fun. The characters keep you laughing all the way through. Her characters are so fun and relatable that even when going up against the end of the world, you can't help but be happy to be reading it. These books just bring me so much joy and laughter.

♡Incredible◇

Every time I open one of her books, I know I'm in for a wonderful treat😍💞 Her writing is unlike any others. It's so enjoyable and so unique! Every character has such a great personality, and they're very easy to love.

There were so many plot twists, and each one was perfectly done. Daisy finds herself in another jam, and I just love her so much. Daisy and Grams were my favorite. The dialog that involved Grams was absolutely hysterical.

The way Robyn is able to switch from immortals to humans is highly impressive! I've loved the concept of this series and definitely need to read all of them!

A pretty bizarre afterlife!

I truly enjoy reading this series, & I think Robyn's books are very humorous. But I had to give this one 4 stars instead of my usual 5. I know it's fiction, but this version of the higher power...well, I have a real one, so this one was a bit hard to take. But I will be reading the next one because I've decided since this version of the afterlife is & has been pretty twisted, I have to read the final book of the series. Because I find that I have to know if this twisted depiction is maybe, actually going to turn out to be hell. I have to find out. If it's not, I can only hope that the other characters are going to fix things & make them a bit more... Heavenly!

The book seemed a little short. I was reading and look at the % I was at and went back as thought I must’ve hit pages and skipped some but no. I really enjoy this series but this was my least favorite book,

I felt the parts when Alana Catherine was a 20 something and that the would need to play game shows was very predictable. From what Pandora said Alana Catherine told her and Grams obsession.

My question is did any of the skunks make it out? How much will Alana Catherine remember when she grows up? Will she need to choose what she wants to be?

Looking forward to the next book. It is good to read books that are not always 20 somethings.

Not for me

I stumbled onto this book because it sounded cute. Having not read read any of the previous books, I didn't know what to expect. I really did not expect what I read. I'm not a goody two shoes, but believe me the language in this book was beyond my tolerance. I couldn't get past the first chapter because the foul words kept me from even getting to the story. If you don't mind a cuss words, every other word, maybe you could tolerate this book long enough to get to the plot story. To the author, sorry, I'm sure you worked hard but it's beyond my tolerance and added nothing to the story for me.

Things get crazy when Daisy, Grams and baby Alana Catharine set off to the celestial plane to deal a tear and rescue six ghosts Daisy previously crossed over. Just when things start to settle down blam the Higher Power demands their presence. Things get weird quickly when they appear in game show Armageddon. Candy, Tim and the four horsemen are all bit players in a impromptu wedding for Daisy and Gideon. Alana Catharine has some unusual gifts coming her way in the future and wow is the Higher Power who messed with this little lady.

Quite a page-turner!

I started this book then reached a scene from Cecily’s series (Good to the Last Demon, book #5) that I didn’t recognize. I stopped this, read that and the rest of the series, then came back here. I’m glad I did. Even though enough was recapped here, I liked having all the extra information from Cecily’s point of view.

Once I came back here, I was ready to go meet the Higher Power with Daisy! I was riveted, and I can’t wait to read the next one in the series!

Ready for the finale

I had no intention of reading the next book. I thought book 11 was a good place to end it, but book 12 was released about a week after I finished so I decided to go for it. This book is good in a lot of ways, but a lot of it feels redundant at this point. The battles are anticlimactic and the cliffhangers feel like an excuse to hang on to the series. If I remember book 13 when it is released I will read it, but I don’t think I will be upset if I forget.

Power of three

The past, present, and future...the power of three.
The higher power isn't who or what you think. Its been interesting to read this take on the higher power...and a little creepy.
As always, there is some fun things to learn while reading a Ms. Peterman book! This time it was name calling and forgotten sayings that will dill your pickle!
An enjoyable read from the beginning to the end!

Daisy and Gideon get married! All is love and roses until the reception when ghosts that Daisy had helped move on show up with a cryptic message about a rift and death and destruction will reign unless Daisy fixes the problem. It takes the whole crew to figure out the riddle. Loved that the higher plane had game shows! Really enjoyed this installment! This one is hard to review without spoilers – just go read it!

This is a fantastic addition to the Good to the Last Death series. It centers on Daisy, her Gran, and her daughter Alana Catherine. Gran’s love for game shows and Bob Barker in particular plays a big role in the story. The book is filled with Robyn Peterman’s trademark humor and action. I highly recommend this series.

I listened to the audiobook. Narrator Jessica Almasy does a great job bringing Daisy and the group to life.

This is one of the most suspenseful, funny and action packed stories I've read. The power of three is Daisy, her Gram and her daughter Alana Catherine. They had to fight the evil of the Higher Power together while being forced to play TV game shows. Alana Catherine is showing just how strong she will be in the future. They won the games and were able to save the those who were brought back from the light. I can't wait for the next book in this series!

Same BS cut and pasting the last 2 chapters of the last book into the first 2 chapters of this book. Not happy about that but still love the characters and, to a lesser extent, the story. The fluff is starting to take up more and more space. Without it, the last 5 books could have been one good length installment. It’s starting to get offensive how the publisher just expects us to buy book after book yet they give less and less in return.

I really want to give this book 5 stars, but there was one glaring issue. These books are short enough as it is, so Robyn wasting time giving us a copy & paste reminder of past events was kind of an insult.

Like, girl, just tell us you're running out of ideas. Wrap up the story and be done.

I'm hoping for a better effort in the next book.

As always a thoroughly enjoyable listen w the best narrator! I adore these characters and I’m always shocked the author has more storylines for them but I’m glad she does … it was bittersweet this book ends w such a cliffhanger because it felt like a short book & I wanted more. I’m glad there will be more in the form of another book but I’m sad I have to wait lol.

Robyn Peterman has one of the best imaginations for writing these stories and Jessica Almasy is an excellent narrator doing all the voices of the characters in the story about Daisy & her baby daughter, Alana Catherine saving dead souls by playing a hilarious "Wheel of Fortune" and "Jeopardy" game with Daisy's grandmother.

OMG

Each book is better then the next. The past, present, and future must come together to solve the next bunch of clues given to them. And they will have to fight it in game show style.

Excellent way to incorporate grams love of game shows and to see Alaina Catherine in a different light. Great job!
