Walls of Ash is a great first novel. It has relatable characters and a mystery that kept me guessing all the way to the end. Amber Newberry also shows us a worldliness in her novel that is not seen in most present day novels; characters speaking different languages, they constantly travel and have in depth knowledge of people and places that are not the only place they live. I can't wait to read the next installment!

I have to preface this with the fact that I don't like historical books. I don't read historical books. Having said that, I was asked by the author to read and review this book.
I was surprised, pleasantly so. This book can be a tad slow at times, but the development of characters and storyline keep you interested and wondering just who is ultimately responsible for everything that is happening until the end. There is little I hate more than reading a mystery where I've figured out the villan by the third or fourth chapter. Thankfully, this is NOT one of those books. It held my interest and pulled me in to the places, time and thought processes of the characters throughout the whole book.
I have always loved finding authors that are new to me and, especially indie authors who have to work a lot harder to get their product out there. Amber Newberry is someone I will read again!

"Walls of Ash" is a compelling tale of what it means to 'rebuild'. The house of Rhineholdt towers over the land and carries the burden of whispers late at night, secrets, and mystery. The reader cannot help but be seduced by the flighty, yet charismatic narrator, Tamsin. Unconventional and brave, she seeks to answer the questions of her family and her past. The reader is taken on a winding and adventurous journey of mysticism and fear, but yet still learns the valuable lesson of learning and letting go. Only then, can a person rebuild something great from the ashes of tragedy and deception. Beautifully structured with impeccable attention to detail in the plot, witty dialogue, and undertones of humor, this is a book a person simply cannot pass up. I am looking forward to reading future books in the series writtn by this shining young artist.

I was very impressed by this book. It is the first novel published by Amber Newberry and it was wonderful. The story was very engaging and I had a hard time putting it down. It was well thought out, the characters were likable and well written, and it was full of lovely plot twists and suspense. The only tiny criticisms that I have, would be that there were a few grammatical errors and that a few parts in the story seemed rushed and/or a bit forced; but nothing that hindered me enjoying or reading the book. I strongly suggest reading this story and supporting a young new author. I've known Amber for a few years and she is a very talented person; I look forward to the continuation of this series and to read any new books that she writes.

I was pleasently surprised by this first novel by Amber Newberry. The author provides a well developed story unfolding in a rich background and details that bring the characters to life. The author is able to weave a tale of mystery and suspense that kept me guessing until the end of the book. The story is well written and keeps the reader interested without the use of vulger language that is often found in today's novels. I recommend this book to fans of gothic/historic novels with mystery and suspense.
