An easy, graphic guide to planning delicious, diabetes-friendly meals This innovative, graphic cookbook offers the easiest and most flavorful way to build complete meals that are diabetes-friendly and delicious. Sidestepping complex programs that turn meal-planning into work, the 90 complete meals in Diabetes Meals by the Plate follow the Plate Method--a simple approach to eating the right foods in proper amounts by filling your plate with one half nonstarchy vegetables, one quarter protein, and one quarter starch. A clever photo style showing every meal in its three components makes it easy to enjoy perfectly portioned plates of Balsamic Roasted Chicken and Vegetables with Garlic Toast, or Horseradish BBQ-Topped Mini Meat Loaves with Chopped Romaine Salad. All meals are 500 calories or less. Two "extras" chapters help you add in simple sides and desserts.
Within 10 pages of starting this book it went into my Amazon cart. I absolutely loved the entire meal ideas/recipes each entry offered to use as a meal plan or to divide out and use individually. The variety of meals was highly impressive as well. I wouldn't say I have a picky eater in my husband, but I do have a meat and potatoes kind of guy that I am trying to introduce healthier new alternatives to and this book offers that. The drink and dessert sections simply sealed the deal and I can't wait to try them with him as pop remains out of our diets and alternatives are needed to simple plain water and Crystal Light. While diabetes isn't present in our family, my husband has a diagnosis of heart disease and I found I liked these recipes much better than some of the ones I have seen in "heart healthy" cookbooks. Furthermore, the lack of use ANYTHING processed makes me a very happy girl.
This is just a cookbook that is on my must use list.
I think 1 of the hardest things about diabetes is the fact of putting meals together. This book is well illustrated and also has a lot of options. It can be used with all of the family and still keep you in check.I think it's a great book.
Excellent cookbook with just the right amount of photos to facilitate interest. I greatly appreciate the full menu design, including sides (which could be optional) and the nutrition info for the entire meal, as well as the individual items. Perfect for a newly diagnosed person or someone who cooks for someone with diabetes. Recipes are great also.
Fantastic recipes and ideas for meals. I was newly diagnosed and this book really showed I could still eat great and savory food while sticking to a diabetic diet.
