Nice look at life in the Roman empire with lovely color photographs of artifacts, ruins and locations. I learned a lot about everyday life in that time period and locale that I didn't know before.

A look back into time. It is amazing to me the amazing art work and other things that were accomplished by a age old civilizations and who better to tell their story than Time Life Books.

Lately I've been trying to remind myself of stuff that I already know. I tried going back and rereading The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire but decided I'd have to be an idiot to subject myself for a second time to 9 volumes of something written in the 18th Century. Life has been seeming really short lately...Anyway, instead I picked this book up. It's a pretty good, very basic overview of Roman history and culture. The author includes plenty of interestingly macabre details and the illustrations are nice. Oh yeah, and it's not 900 pages long...

A wonderfully interesting book that gives interesting little details about many aspects of the Roman life. The book is written in a easy sort of language and spiced with amusing, interesting and curious observations made by historians of the day. The pictures are vivid and well explained and I definitely want to see if the rest of the books in this series is of the same quality.

A very basic overview that begins with Julius Caesar. Touches on a variety of topics, nothing too in-depth. Not the best of this series that I have read, but it was alright.

Great pictures and anecdotes as well as a comprehensive overview of Rome, it's rulers, it's famous denizens, it's culture and infrastructure. Very fast and engaging read.
