Compared to the Time Life book on the Homefront during WW II, this book is extremely detailed in what was going on in the world before, during, and the aftermath of WW II. Although I only read the picture highlights, I was able to grasp the overwhelmness of this time period. A WW II historian and enthusiast would appreciate the thoroughness and complexity of this book.

Comprehensive look at WW2. Great illustrations, could have used more maps. Does a really good job of tracing events leading up to the war, and then the various theatres of the war. Also does a good job of giving an overall chronological view of the war. Good pictures, but the quality of the resolution seems poor--most photos are very grainy. Not sure what accounts for that.

"We have resolved to pave the way for a grand peace for all the generations to come by enduring the unendurable and suffering what is insufferable"

5 thumbs up, not just for the spot-on Time-Quality pictures, but also the remarkable explanations and how Time could place themselves as historian. For people who never explore the knowledge of WWII and wanted to learn some, this is a BIG recommended book to have.

Wonderful book. Great descriptions filled with details to help understand the background behind many historical events, battles, politics, and personalities. Wonderful photos as well. Chronologically and categorically oriented--works very well.

Superb history book that chronicles the whole of WWII with an excellent collection of writing, photos, maps & paintings. A straight forward history that details 'the world's greatest tragedy', this a must for any history buff, especially of WWII, that brings it alive like few books do.

The first photo book I ever saw...it was standard issue for any WW2 veterans house.

This is where I first saw Capa's photographs.
