Life for Abby Henley had been uneventful until a handsome, wounded stranger showed up on her doorstep. Abby did what any Christian woman would do; she nursed him back to health. As his strength returned Abby found herself drawn to Cord Sutton, a man who would reveal nothing about his past or the events of why he had been shot. For three weeks, Cord had fought his feeling for the gorgeous, auburn haired - farm girl. Abby was sweet and beautiful, but Cord had no intention of getting married. He knew if he succumbed to his attraction for her, she would expect marriage. Abby's desire for Cord impels her to seduce him. When a stranger claims to know a secret about her, she must question her own past. Will the secrets from their past keep Cord and Abby from finding happiness together?
The dialogue was far too stilted and unnatural for me to get into this story. I tend to 'hear' dialogue as if someone is speaking to me, in my head and when someone says:
'I have to admit I am attracted to Abby. She is a wonderful woman. I promise the moment I am strong enough I am out of here. Your sister's virtue is safe.'
'Would you please write your name down for me and where you hail from? I always like to do a little investigating when strangers show up in Tarboro.'
If you will give me the person's name, I will give it to the sheriff in town.'
The speech sounds false, stilted.
However, the incident where Cord was 'close to taking her on the ground...' was enough to make me stop reading any further. Abby was nearly raped two days before, and Cord intimates that he was close to 'taking an innocent girl's virginity.' No. Really. That was just too.... euw for me.
The book read like it was written by an inexperienced youth. The writing was simplistic and childish at times. There were too many grammar and sentence errors. Research didn't seem very well done since modern phrases or actions were randomly throughout the story.
There were too many things going on and it got ridiculous as to all the stuff that could happen to the main characters. I won't be reading the subsequent books in the series.
I loved this story regarding Abby and Cord. The two were in love against all odds. They went through so much but in the end they found the happiness she always dreamed of.
Kind of hate the lead female and how helpless naive and sometimes totally stupid she is. Personal opinion but i think the story would have been much better with a lead female that had a brain and a backbone.
You people should just read this book yourselves and write your own review on this novel yourself and I really enjoyed reading this book very much so.Shelley MA
I don't know how to rate this book. It was a good story and had great potential. I mostly liked the characters but honestly, I felt like the whole thing was just exhausting. The sex scenes seemed forced and written as though the author was embarrassed to have to write them. And the wording of things was odd. At one point Abby is worried because her dress reveals too much skin and attributes the fit of the dress being a bit tight because she is breast feeding. But in the next sentence, she thinks her bosoms are huge. Bosoms? Why are they called breasts in one sentence and then bosoms in the next. I giggled a little over that. Other than that it was a fairly sweet story where everyone was not lily white and bad things happen.
Cord headshot and ends up staying with Abby, her father Jacob and her brother Nick. Abby falls in love with Cord but he leaves her. She doesn't know that he loves her. Due to a situation beyond her control she goes to live with her uncle. Cord comes back to marry her but before remarry a family secret is revealed. After they are married she is kidnapped. I enjoyed this book.
Four stars for a great story of love and strong family. author takes you back in time and you discover not everyone is pure until married. things happen in life and love know no rules.
I loved this book. A wonderful story about the hair times, the love, family values. When I read books like these I would like to go back n time. Very hard live but people with morals. A must read.
Caution: Sexual Content. I found I really enjoyed both stories. The sexual content really wasn't necessary, the first story would have carried on without it.
