Meet Mickey, Shaz, Jillo, Titch and Raider (the dog), better known as The Outfit. In their first adventure, they hear strange noises coming from creepy Sycamore Thicket. Can it be the ghosts who are supposed to haunt Weeping Wood? It's up to The Outfit to discover the truth.
I found this book at the bottom of an old box under my bed... I immediately beemed with fond nostalgia; remembering how it had been read to my class in primary school. Incidentally, it does appear this particular copy I've been inadvertently stowing away was something of a literal 'steal'...since I evidently forgot to ever give it back to the school!. oooops!
I'm glad I could relive this novel's mystery as I had forgotten its suspenseful twists that, with a doubt, make this an enjoyable and worthwhile read. Of course I was tranced by the wonderful daze of nostalgia and because of this, I might not recommend it to adult readers as a whole. Instead, I think it succeeds as a wonderful throwback to a time when children's books could be quite dark and potentially gruesome.
I was so bored by like page 20 I really didn't wanna finish it but I forced myself too seeing as it was so short. I think it's partly because I hate the "kid investigators" trope so if that's your thing you might enjoy it but I really couldn't get into the book.
