This book went live at 3am est and it's now a little after 6am and I've just finished it.

this may be the best one of the series so far. i don't know why, like i cant point out anything specific but it just feels better than the rest of them.

They're easy reads, in the sense that they're well written, every character is likeable (except whatever her name is, Fletch's ex wife) and they're pretty short and fast reads, again this one took me around 3 hours of straight binge reading.

there's essentially two plots per book- one being the series/overall plot and one being each individual book's plot. Both are executed very well and add to the series. there is not a lack of mystery, comedy, sorrow, happiness, giddiness, etc etc. Each book has something to offer (except, IN MY OPINION, book 12. It was meh for me... i digress.)

the series is a heavy read in terms of subject matter of Minka and Aub's job (as well as Arch and Fletch's. and Fletch's, um, personal life)

while they *could* be read as standalones since each book has mostly recapped everything that's previously happened in the preceding books, its really a treat being able to binge them at once (guilty) and then being able to continue to follow along.

i don't find myself forcing my way through them and genuinely find them entertaining and just... a really good read.

I also saw where the author isn't planning on stopping the series any time soon (correct me if I'm wrong though...) and I'm really excited for that.

this series is my first time reading the author so im not entirely sure on their stance when it comes to smut but this series is very plot driven with a drop of... spice is too heavy but it's definitely not fluff (unintentional pun) regardless, being a smut fanatic, these are really really good reads.

Emotional, shocking, amazing!!

𝐒𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐒𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐰 is the 13th book in the Mayet Justice series by Emilia Finn, featuring another another intriguing homicide case for Minka and Archer, as well as plenty of entertaining drama in the personal lives of their whole crew. When a night of fun at a haunted house for 4 college freshmen ends with one the girls in a body bag on her way to the morgue, Minka, Archer, and their partners vow to figure out who was behind the heiness crime. Can the team stay focused on the case, when one of their own has a collossal mess in his personal life take him down too?

The Mayet Justice series is a must-read for me, so I was excited to return to Copeland City. The suspense plot of this case was top notch on its own, but when you add in the amazing world building of this series, with the found family bond of the characters and all the unique drama that they tend to bring, this book is worthy of all the stars!! There was so much angst, emotion, drama, some tears (also mine 🥺), laugh out loud moments (Thanks Cato 🤪), and of course romance, that I am emotionally exhausted. Especially after reading an ending that I wasn’t expecting, that leaves me desperate for the next Mayet book! Well played, Emilia Finn. Well played. Trust me when I say, you want to read this series from the beginning! You won’t regret it, and you won’t be able to stop!😉

This was just sad and l wondered the point of this storyline? The author needed a better trigger warning than the generic one she uses on her books. I couldn't continue reading the autopsy scene on this and it could definitely trigger someone who has lost a baby.

2.5 stars. Let me say that I love this series and all the main characters throughout. What I couldn’t get past in this book was the stupidity of the actual murder and how the investigation went. Has the author never been to a haunted house before? They were so fixated on it being a targeted crime that they or the author didn’t clue in that the likelihood of the exact person and only that person getting stabbed would be almost zero as she wasn’t the only one to go through the house and wasn’t even by herself. Outside of a horrible murder plot, the rest of the book was engaging and we got to see new updates in the side characters lives.

Mood readers: These are not standalones. If you want a police procedural with an antisocial coroner with a bloody hobby; a handsome charming cop running from his mafia family; his partner, father to an adorable four yr old with an addict mother; the coroner's assistant, a bubbly hippy medical examiner; the cop's older grumpy brother who runs a bar and holds many family secrets close to his chest- and more great secondary characters as well as interesting crimes to solve every book - this book series is for you!

The crimes are always interesting, and the characters are always evolving along with their personal and professional stories. I hope Emilia Finn keeps writing their stories until they are all in a nursing home hiding each other's dentures for pranks!

Tropes:

* MF Contemporary
* fictional large city in America
* antisocial coroner/ medica examiner running city office
* charming handsome manho cop MC, running from mafia family
* great secondary characters
* so far, 13 books
* criminal justice
* police procedural
* vigilante killer
* he falls first
* she's reluctant and wary
* coworkers solving the city's crimes together
* workplace romance
* possessive alpha love
* story arcs between main characters and secondary characters throughout the books
* interesting crimes to solve
* tragic, haunting cases
* personal problems as well
* romantic and realistic
* HFN

There are precious few writers and storylines that can keep me hooked on a series that stretches into double digits, but Emilia Finn and her Mayet Justice series is one of those. Her world and characters that live there are believable and relatable. You ache when they’re unhappy, you rejoice when they’re *finally* smiling, and you groan in misery when they do something stupid. Sinful Sorrow is another episode in Copeland, with crime, justice, romance, & angst all rolled into one glorious bundle.

Warning: Each book is standalone, but there are arcs within that really won’t make sense if you do not read them in order, and this one has a bit of a drop-off (not quite a cliff - no one you care about is irretrievably lost) at the end so that you’re left waiting for Book 14 to see how the situation resolves.

That ending though!

So much unexpected in this one. I thought I had an idea, then a different one, and even a third idea of where the mystery in this one was going. My goodness, Emilia has the ability to introduce so many twists and turns, keep the story intriguing and completely engrossing, and then end the story with complete surprise. I love it! I cannot wait for the next in this series, the next with these characters, the next of whatever is coming. Emilia Finn is definitely a one-click author for me, every. Single. Time. I need the next story now! But I'll wait patiently and quietly until I get my fix. I won't rush the stories, because I can, eventually, get stories that aren't rushed, are absolutely amazing, and keep me enthralled until I get to the end and scream that it can't be the end already!

Its all in the title

Sinful Sorrow, its all in the titile. From the prologue, the autopsy, to the very last page, the hits just keep coming for the people of Copeland. Our favorite couple seem to being doing g great, Aubs is still reeling about Tim III giving her that something green, poor Fetch can't catch a break and poor Fifi caught in the middle. Cato just living his best life, is actually pretty helpful in this one. My heart broke for the victim, the autopsy did me in, as well as a broken Fletch. So much sorrow.
As always Emilia weaves a plot twist like noone else, keeps you guessing to the end. I can't wait to see what our Copeland family gets involved with next.

This is Chefs Kiss!

Wow…just wow. This addition to the Mayet Justice Series is one of the BEST. Suspense, sadness, open wounds, heart break, shocking and oh so good. Emilia Finn is a GENIUS! This is a Magnificent story. Each murder in every book is shocking but the lives of the people involved and the ability to continue to create more storylines and continuing the journey of the Copeland residents and the New York mafia as well as the inclusion of the illustrious Sophia and Crew is just other worldly.

Read every book….don’t start here…start at Book 1…..you will not regret it!

I mark my calendar for each book release in this series!

I have loved reading the Mayet Justice series over the last several years and this book was another amazing read! Not only are Minka Mayet and Archer Malone two of my favorite characters in a series, I thoroughly enjoy Fletcher, Aubrey, Tim, Seraphina (FiFi), Cato and the other characters in each novel. This says Sinful Sorrow is #13/14 books. I truly hope that is not the case!! There are still so many parts to this series that could go well beyond 14 books!

Thank you for writing this series, Emilia Finn! Please keep adding to this series!

Once again she writes an AWESOME, AMAZING story !!

Another Mayet book down and they just keep getting better !! I cant express enough how great Emilia Finn books are ! There was a time I wondered when this series would end, now I’m scared it’s going to. This book grabs you from the get go and leaves you trying to figure out who did it and then when it comes who the villain is you’re like WHAT !! Her books have just enough , love, laughter and suspense that makes it a 5 star read everytime !!

Love Minka, Archer and the gang

I was really intrigued by this book's case that needed to be solved. Of course I was wrong in my thoughts on who did it, but it really made you think about the ramifications of our actions. I can't imagine how the lives would be affected if it was real. As always the banter between the Malone brothers made me smile. We get more drama with our side stories, but I'm not sure how I feel about our author leaving us hanging at the end. Good book, ready for the next.

The title says it all....

This was another fantastic book, and a great addition to this series. It was a heartbreaking, as well as a difficult story to read. There were many complexities in this case, one in particular that I didn't agree with at all, but I would have liked to seen the case through the end. I know that it was explained, but to me, not getting the ending of a case isn't much different than not getting to read the end of a book. JMO!
I would definitely recommend this book, series, and outstanding author.

Murder, mystery, and one solid what the #&$_

Holy cow! There aren't words for how that went, but I'm going to try anyway! Back in Copeland with the gang, a murder in a haunted house in October. The ending definitely leaves you with more questions than answers but worth every minute! The only thing that would have made this better is an October release date.

THANKS AGAIN EMILIA!

Shock Abounds in Sinful Sorrow

Although I’m usually good at knowing where authors are going with a story- this one had me saying “wait, what? No way!” on more than one occasion. I love these characters- their highs and their lows, and the suspense as they work together to solve cases (even when they shouldn’t.). When you finish and are DYING for Book 14, you know that author has created pure magic with a series.

Wow!

This one blew my mind! There is so much going on in this book and it kept me hooked through every page. We enjoy all our popular characters in the Mayet world, revisit one of our favorite side story besties and have a few new people who definitely tug at your heartstrings. The book starts out with a shock and ends with another massive one. As always, I can't wait for the next Mayet story.

MIND BLOWN!

First off the homicide.. 🤯 if you like suspense, mystery and the unsolvable, solved.. YOU HAVE TO READ THIS! This had me gripped from the prologue! I was so heavily invested from start to finish and I always am with Copeland.. and everything that Emilia writes your submerged into this world so deep that you feel that your completely in it 100% of the time and your left reeling at the events even up to the very last page!

AMAZING!!!

What a great read! I absolutely love the mystery/romance combo. The case itself is sad but this group works to get justice and closure and keeps us guessing.

This series has everything you could possibly want in a story! If you aren’t sure, give it a try and you’ll be happy you did. There is romance and mystery but also friendship and family and laughter and love and the sweetest little girl ever 💗

You might need your tissues…

Because the crime case in this book is really sad, as well as one of the sub-plots. 😢 There isn’t really an HEA, and the continuing plot ends with an unexpected, unfortunate cliffhanger. But as always, the book is interesting and twisty and satisfying. I love the chemistry between all the characters, and I’ll read these books and their spin-offs as long as Emilia Finn keeps writing them.

Drama at it’s finest!

In true Emilia style, this book grabbed my heart and twisted. So many emotions running through my heart and mind, you can almost see them as they play out on the pages. The tragedy and destruction from this latest case was felt on every level and in parallels that brought tears to my eyes. This family of characters grow more and more under my skin with each book. Their connection is contagious and addictive!

The best set up for more to come!

Emilia delivered yet again another installment of archer and Minka. The entire story has us, wondering what’s coming next. As they set out to find the killer, the lines get blurred and the stage is set for all of the fireworks to come. I cannot wait to see what she brings us next!

I really enjoy all of Ms. Finn's books, but Sinful series has become my favorite. Sinful Sorrow is the most emotional so far, but so worth it. There is a lot going on with the characters which makes waiting for the next book so hard. I have enjoyed the plots and getting to know the characters. The murderer was not even close to who I predicted. Great story, thanks Emilia.

Absolutely love it!

Again you kept us guessing throughout. I love how you perfectly intertwine your crime saga with the real life problems of our favorite characters. Telling us the victims story right along with the day to day drama of our favorite people. I can't get enough. I absolutely love it! I need more. Thank you Emilia Finn.

I'm not crying, your crying

The team all comes together to work a murder with a twist. The who done it isn't one I saw coming this time. It's a heartbreaking situation all around. This one leaves a bit of a cliffhanger. but I know it won't be for long. I am already counting the days until the next installment of our favorite people in Copeland.

hurt feelings

There are feelings in this story that hurt. Fifi is understanding that her feelings for Fletcher are complicated for Fletcher. Fletcher is constantly dealing with his ex-wife. There are new players in Copeland and of course the Malones are in the middle and they don’t even know it. There is just so much going on and no one knows it.

Entertaining and what we've come to love from Finn

This was another winner from Emilia Finn. Our favorite MEs and detectives are back for more. I honestly cannot get enough of these characters and this series, even this far into a storyline, it never gets dull. I'm ready for the next!

I really love this series, I have read all of them so far. The interaction of the characters is wonderful. And the premise is good, the mafia family with the 5 brothers, two of whom left the family business but still are morally grey when they are needed, and two who stayed to protect the others. And the youngest who was raised by the other 4.
