These particular Star Wars DK Readers are not very well written. The images are screen caps from the Clone Wars series, and the stories each follow the plot of an episode. If we were not already fans of the show, this would have been a confusing, jumbled mess. Beginning Readers can come across as choppy when not well executed, and these are even more so.

As a member of family of Star Wars fans, reading to my child who is starting to learn to read, these let me down.

A simple but charming coming of age story set in the Star Wars universe. The squids vs. amphibious octopi vs. shark aspect rather pushed the limits of my willing suspension of disbelief. Apparently, evolution on all worlds mimicked that of Earth, except with more anthropomorphism (a word not present in this learning-to-read book). Despite this, it was still fun to read.

My 4-year-old, Ewan, loves these early reader Star Wars books. They include many pictures and Star Wars nerd vocabulary building. Me, I could do with less Jar Jar but am pleased my reading level is high enough that level 3 early readers are easy and fast to read.

A good book for fans of the Star Wars Clone Wars series - the book tells the story found in two episodes. It uses a lot of hard words and complex names so is not an easy reader!
