Michael Rosen, a recent British Children’s Laureate, has written many acclaimed books for children, including WE'RE GOING ON A BEAR HUNT, illustrated by Helen Oxenbury, and I’M NUMBER ONE and THIS IS OUR HOUSE, both illustrated by Bob Graham. Michael Rosen lives in London.

I really enjoyed listening to some of Michael Rosen's poetry on the poetry archive website. He was my favourite poet as a child, as the way he writes poetry and the nonsense language he uses really brings the poems to life.

Even though at times, it is hard to sometimes work out what Rosen is writing about in his poetry as he does use such a lot of nonsense words, children can really relate to this and there are important things that they can learn as well. For example, Rosen's Poem Yesterday is about everything happening back to front. Children will find this poem funny and it could also link to maths and numeracy as well when children are learning about subtraction.

The thing i like most about Michael Rosen's poetry is that because of the nonsense language used in many of poems, they are meant to be read aloud so children can hear and listen to the story. This will be great fun for children to listen to all of these nonsense words, and will make them realise that not all poems have to rhyme and make sense to be good.

There are some important learning points that children can take from Rosen's poetry such as in some of his poems he uses rhyming in every other line (Yesterday, My Friend Elsie, Riding Down to Boxland), Rosen also has written a poem called Three Limericks which are again nonsense based but they can still show children what a limerick is.

Michael Rosen is my favourite Children's poet and i still enjoy his poetry now as an adult. I am looking forward to using his poetry in the classroom and getting the children involved in the nonsense words, silly noises and acting out the poems.

This book is so child friendly and allows children to enjoy reading.

The book contains various poems, written by the fantastic Michael Rosen. I particularly enjoy the poem 'Tony Cross', as it allows children to imagine one person with various sides to him. The poem creates a character, and each section describes a different side to 'Tony'. The poem is humourous, imaginative and inspiring to children. This poem and the book it is published in, would be suitable for children 9-11.

Michael Rosen's nonsense poetry is highly entertaing and a good way of introducing KS1 to poems. This collection of poetry introduces absurbist humour to children and has examples of both long and short poems. While Rosen is better known for Going on a Bear Hunt, this anthology should be more well-known for teachers who are struggling to get children excited about poetry. Brilliant as well for showing children that poetry is a form of entertainment and its main purpose is to be performed.
