Daredevil and Spider-Boy enter the tournament of the Open Maw. Victory is crucial, as one of the other participants is none other than Bullseye, and the price should definitely not fall into his hands. What exactly does the winner get? Only the complete control of the Gaping Maw.

This volume is a bit weaker than the previous ones, but still good fun.

After some crazy multiverse shenanigans, Spider-Boy is back in his own world, and the best part is that everyone remembers who he is. However, new dangers are on the horizon..

Like the previous volumes this one is very fun.

Somehow what could have been a pivotal revamp of the series....memories of Spider-Boy are returned...it turns into ANOTHER Battle tournament.

just as fun as the first two volumes but with a slightly more substantial story to boot. Daredevil makes for a great guest star, I enjoyed how much more reckless he is in regards to Bailey than Peter is. Bulls Eye was able to be as nasty as he should be while still fitting into the more child friendly setting just fine and Spider Girl and Hulkette were both great new additions the Marvel Universe!

Daredevil drags Spider-Boy to Madripoor in order to undertake the Dragon's Challenge, a kung-fu tournament including the likes of Bullseye and a new villainous Spider-Girl!

Dan Slott's said a few times that he doesn't like writing stories over 4 issues long, and very rarely does it. This volume's a bit of an illustration as to why. While the Dragon's Challenge changes locale a few times, it feels overly long, and it's a lot of Bailey being entirely out of his depth, surrounded by characters he doesn't really have any links to. I found myself much more interested in what was going on back home in NYC with Boy-Spider and Bailey's mom.

The new Spider-Girl's an interesting addition to the stable, especially since she's not truly a Spider-Person, but I find Bullseye's depiction a little too comical given who he is. Not really the kinda villain I'd have expected to see in this kinda book.

The more I read of Spider-Boy, the less I like...

This collection has such great ideas as Bailey adrift in the Spider-Verse and swapping places with said heroes. Bailey's mom FINALLY remembers him we ditch all that nonsense for more superheros chuckles. We've also got some bargain that Peter Parker makes to anchor Bailey back in reality (think of the price being something like the 'One More Day' fiasco...or not?).

There's also a Hawaiian preteen whose mutant power is being better than...the best?

...and a green skinned preteen going by Hulkette that...stores up her strength? Yeesh

ANYWAY...
Daredevil breaks character and child-naps a 10yr old superhero sidekick to go fight in a ninja tournament in Madripoor. Sounds safe, right? Totally something a character who has been THIS close to being a pastor (heck, in some runs he even had a secret identity AS one)

Bonus: Art good! Story bad! Bailey is best handled small, bite sized bits

Despite loving most things Spider-Man, I'm realizing I may not be the audience for Spider-Boy. While this volume has a few genuinely fun moments, it's far less engaging than the first. The early abandonment of the human-animal hybrids left a sour taste, especially the mother leaving Boy-Spider behind, which made it hard to sympathize with her. Her character was just weirdly portrayed in this volume. From there, the story stalls in an extended tournament arc where Daredevil repeatedly refuses to explain why they're even competing, despite Spider-Boy asking multiple times. Instead of building intrigue, it becomes frustrating. I also miss the colorful, entertaining villains that gave the first volume its spark. Sigh. I don't know if I'll continue at this point.

I read this to my daughter and she smiled the whole way through it. Great fun with tight plotting and fun art.

Slightly weird Daredevil team-up which does make the most of the characters and has typically good Slott interactions but is ultimately an unconvincing storyline.

collects 11-16. why not 9-10????

9-10 was Spider-Verse story and pretty important!

11-16 has a great team-up with Daredevil and introduces Spider-Girl.

all in all, a great/fun series...

The more I read of Spider-Boy, the less I like...

This collection has such great ideas as Bailey getting kidnapped...by a superhero. Bailey's mom FINALLY remembers him we ditch all that nonsense for more superheros chuckles. Boy-Spider is uber jealous of Bailey's life...and stuff happens. *shock*

There's also a Hawaiian preteen whose mutant power is being better than...the best?

...and a green skinned preteen going by Hulkette that...stores up her strength? Yeesh
