Another Mercer Mayer book that all my kids enjoyed. My 5 yr old just adores Mayer and requests her books constantly. I read them at the breakfast or lunch table and even my 3 yr old twins get into them. Fun engaging themes that any child can relate to, a great addition to any children's library. This one was a level 1 reader, so a little on the easy side, but all of us still enjoyed it.

This book was very simplistic and easy to read. It reminded me of when I visited a firehouse on a class trip when I was younger! The little critter had a dream of becoming a fireman someday. He got to experience what it would be like to be an actual fireman. This book teaches kids to chase after their dreams.

So petty for the firefighters to *number* their hats for schoolchild giveaways.

Going To The Firehouse is a children’s book about a young boy who is very enthusiastic about going on a class field trip to the firehouse. He even dresses like a fireman himself. The fireman shows him his dog named sparky, a firedog. He shows them his boots, jacket and helmet. But the boy only had boots and a jacket, no helmet. Next the fireman slides down the fire pole and all of the students and even the teacher watched in amazement. The students get to the see big fire truck and even let the boy help check to see if the fire hose is working well. They watch the firemen climb the ladder on the fire truck. At the end of the day the firemen give all of the students helmets, which completes the boys fireman outfit.
The illustrations were pretty colorful, showing that they were all having a good time. The students were all amazed to see all of the different interesting things firemen have and do and the illustrator did a good job conveying the characters emotions.
This book serves a good purpose to show young readers how a firehouse works and the importance of fire safety. In the book it states how fire works. “Joe tells us about fires. He tells us smoke goes up. When smoke goes up, we must go down to the floor.” This book serves as a good purpose to show children the importance of firemen and the dangers of fires.

This book was included in our Little Critter Collection: Contains Little Critter: Going to the Firehouse, Little Critter: Going to the Sea Park, and Little Critter: Snowball Soup and this is our first exposure to Little Critter and it's a delight. I had seen this guy around, but never really looked into it until now. AppleBlossom is at the stage where Level "My First" I Can Read! books are perfect and so I'm looking all around to see what I can find.

Little Critter: Going to the Firehouse is a great book for working with a community helpers theme. Children can experience their own firehouse field trip within these pages. Learning about what a fireman wears and why he does what he does is important and fun with Little Critter.

This is a great book to use with young children to talk about community helpers. It talks about some of the things firemen do. It also begins to talk about fire safety. This is a great way to introduce these two topics.

Very nice book (as most Little Critter books are) to help children recognize anything about a firefighter and the fire truck. Little critter and his classmates go visit the station, and learn to “stop, drop and roll” along with the fire truck and firefighter.

My five-year-old son read about half of this book by himself, so OF COURSE he loved it. And, there was even a cute story among those sight words.

Little Critter and his class take a trip to the firehouse and he meets fireman Joe and his dog Sparky. He even has a jacket and boots to match the firemen, but he does not have a hat. Fireman Joe shows them the pole he slides down, the firetruck, and the ladder. At the end, he even has hats for all of them!
I really enjoyed this book and like this whole series. I think this would be a good book before a trip to the fire station or when talking about different jobs.
