This is a lovely book for responsibly young readers. Gwen learns how to earn money, look after a pony, do things to help others, carry out first aid, be sensible, and repay kindness.
Not many YA books will include an older person who has a stroke and requires care. This kind of lesson can't be learnt early enough and rounds out the story over three generations.
I love that we get some of Teasel the pony's point of view; and quire realistic I find it too.
