The popular press has taken notice of two current trends in housing three-generation households, and twenty-somethings staying at home longer. These are not separate trends, but part of a larger nationwide cultural shift to extended families reuniting. Together A Creative Guide for Successful Multigenerational Living is intended to make this cultural shift go smoothly. Topics covered include the financial and emotional benefits of living together; proximity and privacy; designing and remodeling your home to accommodate adult children or elderly parents; overcoming cultural stigmas about independent living; financial and legal planning; and making co-habitation agreements.
This book reveals the pros and cons of multigenerational living. Our family has had 4 generations under one roof, after years of an assisted living facility, and I wish we had found this information before those years went by.
Great suggestions for families with financial resources of $500,000 and up who can afford land or large houses with remodeling, or duplexes, or building cottages/garage apartments or buying homes near each other. Otherwise, forget it. A painful read.
Since there aren't many books on the topic, I tried to read this one despite the warnings. It is definitely written for people with lots of money, space, spouses and children.
