He’s a small-town cowboy with the reputation of a playboy.
And they'll be working side-by-side, all day every day.
PRESLEY JAMES isn’t one for being impulsive. But now she’s found herself smack dab in the middle of Randall, Texas. Population 5,549. And to make matters worse, she can’t seem to get away from a cowboy whose love of giving her nicknames is testing her patience. A cowboy who is flirty, annoying, and too young for her.
KADE MONTGOMERY has enough on his plate. Between constant fights with his family and a brand new dude ranch to build, he doesn't do relationships. But he does do women, booze, and fun…until a certain purple-haired, tattooed city girl walks in and changes everything.
Will Kade and his playboy ways send Presley running for the hills, or will he be able to rope her in?
Read Kade & Presley's Story on July 17th, 2024. While you wait, check out Book #1: Rein Me In.
i was so excited to dive into this after finishing book one because kade was a MUCH more interesting character in my opinion, and i was pleasantly surprised that the writing style in this volume was considerably better than before! still pretty basic writing so don't go into this expecting to be wowed, but i found myself highlighting a lot more dialogue that i liked.
also, these characters were so lovable (and also hateable? idk, they had amazing growth) because the main male lead, kade, is battling depression and alcoholism and the main female lead, presley, is battling anxiety and body image issues from a recent ex. although i was nervous this book would play into the trope that these characters would try to "fix" each other, it had a lot of great integrations with family and healthcare and was resolved in a really lovely way!
also not to downplay one of the best parts of this book.... the smut was UNREAL. i still think the writing could use a bit of work to completely blow me away, but this was very detailed and any girls with praise kinks should run not walk. only thing is, i'm not a fan of pet names in romances because they just feel soooo cringe and i had to overlook that.
some of the drama in this was a bit repetitive and almost felt like backtracking from the resolution in book one. but i continued to love when kade was headstrong and abrasive, even to the point of overspeaking because it just made him a more realistic character to me in a book where a lot of them are too shiny to feel real.
unfortunately i think this should definitely be read as a sequel and not a companion that you can dive into without book one because there's soooo much action and character development predicated on the previous book. but i read this in one sitting even though it's 400 pages and i'm very impressed with how uphill the writing was! for a book with a whole lot of storytelling that i usually skim in spicy books, i was actually so invested in this. definitely a win for fat girls.
I actually cried in the epilogue, it was that moving. Cowboy smut for sure, light BDSM (no side eyes the dark romance I read take it to the next level) but this one has more meaning behind it. Going into a story of a girl that I ave to say mirrored a lot of myself, never truly being loved and insecurities used against her. So seeing her stand up for herself & get stronger was just amazing. Love Kade, lots of issues that try to get numbed by alcohol and s8x, and dealing with some very heavy issues. Loved it, loved every twist and growth.

This is book 2 and moves to Kade and Pasley's story. Pasley is a city girl running from her old life and toxic ex when she takes a job a The Night Hawk bar and meets Kade, the plainly Cowboy who is recovering from a cardiac event 3 months ago. Kade is struggling with alcohol issues and depression in the wake of his father's death and not being able to communicate with his family well at this difficult time, yet when Pasley enters his life she chases away the blackness and together they both begin to heal and do better... But is it enough? Kade needs to face his demons at some point and Pasley needs to face her past.
Rope me in - I feel so seen I love seeing a plus size woman being loved on and getting the love she deserves - This one is heartfelt, beautiful but also spicy loving the combination of - I WANT A RUGGED MAN LIKE KADE - Spanking 👀 kinkyyy okay KAYLAAA - I want a man to teach me how to ride a horse - I love their connection and the healing ❤️🩹 Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I ended up DNFing the book at 51%. It’s strange that I made it this far because I could tell early on that I wasn’t enjoying it. I kept convincing myself to give it more time, hoping it would get better, but it just never clicked. The frustrating part is I can’t even pinpoint exactly what I didn’t like—it just didn’t work for me at all in the end.
Hated this damn book, and it actually hurts because the first book was amazing. How do you set up such a deep character arc from book one and then deliver this ? Kade is an arrogant, depressed, suicidal, selfish, and immature alcoholic and you’re going to try and tell me that he is healed from all of this by a shallowly written city girl ? The first book dealt with big themes like grief, death, anxiety, trauma and it did it so well and thisss ? Was an absolute disappointment. I don’t think there are enough words to express how annoyed I was reading this
3.5 stars. I was excited for this book after loving the first one! Sadly this one didn’t do it as well for me. I loved the cowboy aspect and plus size rep. The spice was so good and the ending was wrapped up so nicely. But otherwise this book felt like there was a lot of hard topics and issues that only halfway got solved? Idk for sure but it was just ok.
I am obsessed with anything Kayla writes and this book was no different, the way she shows grief, loss and mental health struggles, always makes me tear up . I knew from reading Rein Me In, that I was going to love Kade and I was so excited to read into his story and I was not disappointed. I absolutely loved Kade and Presley, their chemistry and cheeky banter, Kades dirty mouth ;) The way he makes Presley feel and helps to show her how beautiful she really is, to be that strong confident woman that she is. If you haven't read Rein Me In, I was definitely suggest reading that before diving into this, so you can see Kade in that. But honestly I am obsessed, and Kayla always manages to chuck me back into my Cowboy era lol So if you love a cheeky cowboy, whos good with his ropes ;) with a fiesty city girl, whos looking for a home of her own, then this is definitely a book you need to pick up and I can't wait to have it sitting on my bookcase to do a reread in future <3
This story follows Kade who is the brother of book one’s MMC. He meets Presley who plays in a band and is a few years older than him. He’s struggling with so many personal issues and doesn’t feel the support from his loved ones but he finds that support in Presley. They both learn to trust and experience new things with one another.
This was a sweet and spicy story. I really enjoyed these characters, their growth, and the real life issues such as alcohol addiction and depression being handled with care. I always appreciate the plus sized rep in her books!
It was definitely an entertaining read, but I do think it was a little bit all over the place with the alcoholism and the family dynamic coupled with the rope kinks. Maybe if I had read the first book first I would have understood more (I didn't realize it was a second in a series after). I didn't love the story line of him helping her get over her internalized fatphobia. Its just kinda like oh now that this hot cowboy things my stomach is beautiful I can think its beautiful? Idk just rubs me the wrong way a little bit.
Overall, not a bad book, but also not the best book I've read.
Edit: Forgot to mention but what are the chances I read back to back books where the male protag calls the female protag “lemon”
Kayla can write some spice, y’all! The way I am swooning for this cowboy! I’ve been waiting for Kade’s story since book one, and I was not disappointed. Kayla writes wonderfully developed characters who, despite being broken, you still love and root for.
I loved this Cowboys of Nighthawk book so, so much!! Featuring Kade, Garret's brother from book one who is struggling with depression and alcohol addiction and Presley, a plus size, violin player with anxiety who is fresh off a break up and new in town.
The chemistry between Kade and Presley is off the charts and I loved how they helped each other with their respective mental health issues (Kade has depression and is close to becoming an alcoholic) while Pressley has panic attacks and doesn't think she's good enough to be in a relationship. This was also great on audio with dual narration by Lucy Rivers and Grayson Owens.
It has great kinky spice (rope play), features cameos from Kade's brother and fiancée and is sure to delight anyone who enjoys romance books with tons of emotional depth or fans of authors like Evie Mitchell, Mary Warren or Catherine Cowles!!

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC for Rope Me In, and I'm so thankful I did. This story had a mix of everything I love. I'm a therapist, so anytime there is mental health written into a story, I'm immediately sucked in. Kade, our MMC, is dealing with many things - grief, depression, PTSD, and substance abuse, just to name a few. He's had a rough hand thrown at him, and his journey throughout this book is a rollercoaster. He's trying to find himself while also navigating the changes in his life. Kade is that character you just want to hug because you can see that he's hurting, but he doesn't want anyone to know.
Our sassy but anxious FMC Presley, with her purple hair and tattoos, gets a job at the local bar, where she meets Kade. I immediately connected with Presley. I am the plus-size girl who's a bit sassy, anxious, and has tattoos. I'm just missing the purple hair, and I also can't play the fiddle like her 🤪.
Presley has been bullied by the people in her life, and it has taken a toll on her self-esteem. Kade swoops in and shakes Presley's world upside down in the best way. He challenged her and let her know that she was always in control while also helping her see how capable she was. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing her confidence slowly grow through each chapter.
“𝕐𝕠𝕦’𝕣𝕖 𝕟𝕠𝕥 𝕣𝕖𝕡𝕝𝕒𝕔𝕖𝕒𝕓𝕝𝕖. 𝕐𝕠𝕦’𝕣𝕖 𝕣𝕖𝕞𝕒𝕣𝕜𝕒𝕓𝕝𝕖.”
Also, the way Kade praised, comforted, and worshiped her body. 10/10 it was absolutely beautiful to see and made me a bit emotional. Kade is also a bit kinky and introduces Presley to his "ropes." The mouth on this man, I was melting into my mattress half the time because 🔥🔥🔥 wow.
This book is about self-discovery, confronting your demons, healing, and family. I can't wait for it to be released so I can grab myself a physical copy! Check out Rope Me In on July 17! If you haven't read the first book in the series, Rein Me In- start there!
Thank you again to @kaylawriteslife for sharing this story and the ARC. 💛💛

Oh man this book was a lot better than the first one! The first book was great but tbh Kade is a lot more interesting. I also connected more with both Presley and Kade than I was expecting to. Kade struggles with his grief from losing his father as well as trauma from an accident. Not to mention trying to maintain sobriety. Presley is a sassy plus sized baddie, whom I see a lot of my younger self in, has her insecurities used against her and struggles with truly being loved. Having depression does not make you weak and it's okay to ask for help. But also, the things Kade does with those ropes, yes please.
Okay, this was so cute. I really loved Presley's story. I could see a lot of myself in her as not only a person in a plus sized body, but also somebody who struggles with insecurity and family/bf trauma. And a huge compliment that made this story everything it needed to be, was the flirty, broken cowboy himself, Kade. Kade has all his own issues and trauma - especially if you read the first book. (You also get a little of Gavin and Blake in this book, they're so cute!) What did it for me was that Kade so gentle with Presley, from carrying one of her peppermint vapes, listing off things with her to calm anxiety to braiding her hair on the picnic. He allowed himself to be so open and trusting with her - In turn, allowed her to be open and trusting with him. Which OMG the BDSM in this was so juicy! 4/5 Spice! 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
The prologue to this book was the sweetest thing. Its a time skip, but I loved to see them all eventually come together - as a family.

I picked up this book for a spicy cowboy story with a sassy and dark MMC, and I stayed for the amazing character arc of watching Cade face his addiction and learn to love/trust not only himself but others again 🥹 I was roped in to every emotion that Cade went through. I swooned when he was being an asshole, fell for his dirty mouth and kinky habits, and stuck with him when he would fall back into his old cycles. I'll be honest, I thought there would be more ropes with how much he talked about it, and I wasn't as impressed with the FMC, but if you love a flirty cowboy with a dark side, absolutely pick this book up!
3.5⭐️ Kade was a whole different breed. He made me hate and love this book. I kept forgetting how young he was… I am literally the same age as him and he had a heart attack. That’s crazy to think about. He was so complex and had so much happen to him. And Presley was so complex too, I wish we could have explored more of her family background, rather than a quick paragraph recap of her life. HATED DEREK! So happy Kade socked him. Overall, fun read, with some deeper themes. Oh man. I hope the author writes some more in this series! I’d love to see Jake fall in love.

⭐ARC Review⭐ Kayla does it again with this wonderful series and makes me fall in love with her characters and their beautiful stories of grief, loss, mental health struggles, and ultimately love. Kade and Presley are the epitome of opposites attract both needing that push to step outside of their comfort zone to find who they truly are beyond a cowboy and fiddle player. I cannot praise this book enough, I was crying and laughing my way through the banter and spice that never disappoints with a Kayla Grosse story. I would HIGHLY recommend reading the first book in this series before enjoying this masterpiece because it truly helps you feel not only more connected to the story but helps you understand Kade's situation. Lastly, I connected with Presley so much in her desire to love herself and know that she is worth the compliments and affection Kade shows her, she really got her opportunity to shine once she believed in herself and saw her own worth. If you are ready to get roped in - in more ways than one 😉🪢 - to this wonderful little town of Randall then this this should be your next read!
4.5 stars - Give me a Kade plz. Love me some kinky spice too. Great end to the duology. There’s an extra epilogue at the end with the pregnancy trope. Skip if you don’t wanna read. You aren’t missing much!
I absolutely loved this book! Kade and Presleys story was to beautiful for words. The representation of mental health issues and how to deal with them was just perfect.
