About the author

Anita Ganeri is a highly experienced author of children’s information books, specialising in religion, India/Asia, multiculturalism, geography, biography and natural history. She became a freelance writer after working at Walker Books (as foreign rights manager) and Usborne Publishing (as an editor). Since then, she has written over 300 titles, including the best-selling Horrible Geography series for Scholastic. The series won the Geographical Association Silver Award in 1999 and was cited as being ‘an innovation that all geographers will applaud’. She is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society where she conducts most of her research for the books.

Freaky Peaks is a book in the Horrible Geography series. Very nice for kids. Humorously set out with drawings and easy ways to understand, it’s all about mountains, climbing them, surviving on them, etc.
4 stars for kids, 3 stars for me personally but only because I wish it had more. ... It’s a good length for its intended target market though

It was an interesting book with a lot of information about mountains. There were a lot of illustrations, funny illustrations, to back up the points they’re making or just to make the reading more interesting.

Mount Everest is the highest peak on Earth, but it isn't the tallest peak. One of the Hawaiian islands, a dormant volcano, is more than 1,100 meters taller than Everest. Britain is the lowest peak-country in the world. It's highest peak is only 1343 meters tall. A mountain might have 4 types of weather at one place in only an hour!

One of the better book in the 'Horrible Geography' series; 'Freaky Peaks' is highly informative.
My only slight annoyance is that it consistently refers to Geography teachers as "she" and "her".
