Despite her protests, Annette (h), a human falsely accused of murdering several dark elves in the town of Mellara, is banished without a proper trial. As she leaves, she faces hostility and threats, both from dark elves and humans, who blame her for their troubles with the elf community. Annette resolves to leave Mellara and prove her innocence. In the wilderness, Annette encounters a powerful demon, Rukh (H), freshly awakened from an ancient slumber, unsure of his purpose but driven to continue a dark mission. Rukh feeds on local wildlife and anything else he encounters, driven by insatiable hunger and instincts. Annette's interactions with Rukh challenge her understanding of morality, as he targets corrupt or malevolent individuals, leading her to question the nature of justice and identity. Things heat up between the two and Annette comes to realize that Rukh is completely devoted to her, even if some of his actions are questionable. Their alliance, formed around their shared status as outcasts, leads to a mutual desire to confront and change their fates, as they seek to understand their roles in a world quick to judge and condemn. Ultra-hot and steamy dark demon-human romance with violence, danger, magic, rough sex, and more.

“The deepest darkness is usually well-hidden in plain sight”

I love the books that Anne Hale and Celeste King collaborate on. The male protagonists are usually far less human, far more beastly and/or powerful, and I love the way the relationships develop. This one was no exception. I loved both Rukh and Annette. I was right there silently supporting her as she was accused of murder, given no change to defend herself or a trial, and banished- her home vandalized and everyone turned against her. I respected that instead of breaking, she was determined to prove her innocence. Great chemistry between Rukh and Annette. He was a really fun character, and for a demon, I really liked his outlook. 5 stars.

Edit: after writing this review I realized there actually were two authors which makes so much more sense. This collab did not go well and it didn’t come together seamlessly.

This book had so much potential. I could tell the author had a talent for writing but the execution was clunky. It felt like two different people wrote this book at times. The sexy scenes were cringy and repetitive. There was often one word or phrases that was repeated to oblivion in each spicy scene and I wanted to throw my phone from annoyance. I really liked the characters but couldn’t get past the feeling that this book wasn’t prof read and still retained a lot of the feeling of a rough draft. *sigh* I do feel like this author has a lot of potential and that’s why I didn’t rate it lower.

Hale and Kings Craved by the Shadow Demon is a great read. I love the way stories unfold when Hale and King collaborate, giving the readers the perfect mix of both authors.
When a demon is has a code that he lives by you know you are in for a treat. The half human-witch, Annette takes the cake for FMC. I love the dynamic between the two, the darkness, action, spice. When two characters can portray a great balance of chemistry it takes the storyline to an entirely new level.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This was an interesting story. A demon that is woken that k1lls the evil of the world. He lives by a code which isn’t something demons are really known for. Rukh is drawn to his female counterpart in this story. Annette is a human but also a witch. In the world she is in they don’t have friends or family that tolerate her. The dark elf and the humans hate her. But she finds likeness with a demon.
They will solve the k1ller that she is accused of being.

I enjoyed this book. You had to really feel for Annette and the story delivered lots of tension, drama, emotion, danger, intensity, darkness, action, and steam. Rukh was a very intriguing character and the attraction and chemistry between him, and Annette was undeniable.
