Orion knew who he was the minute he saw him. Not just because he suspected he knew his father. But also because he’d been in his shoes before. His past had come back to haunt him in spectacular fashion. They’d defeated one enemy, but there were more out there. He took the boy to the one place he knew he’d be safe - The Coleman Ranch - while he searched for his remaining family. Only, before he could make a plan for what came next, his team showed up with his father in tow. Arick had been searching for his son for far too long. Every path he'd gone down had been a dead end. With nothing left to lose, he cornered an FBI agent to get his help. Once he gave him the details, he takes him to a place called NightShade Security. They’re the best in the business. Except when they get there, he discovers he's getting more than just his son. He's getting the one person he'd thought he'd lost forever.
I loved this story with sweet abducted boy who brought together the childhood best friends who became so much more. This was a very emotional and sweet story which resulted in a family which they all needed. Easy to read, feel and understand. This was an MM story with mature content.
I’ve loved this series so much, like I think it’s some of AW Scott’s best work, but this one felt like a lot was glossed over. Obviously Allie’s books are quite lighthearted and low angst, but we’re dealing with human trafficking here. It’s never explicitly said how old Sol is, but that he’s similar in age to Orion when he was trafficked, which was at 9 years old… and his dad has been searching for him for two years… and they both just get over it within minutes of seeing each other again??? No sense there whatsoever. Like no lingering trauma, no information on what happened to him in this time. And there was a couple plot holes too. We know Orion saved himself when he was a kid but when he came back him mother had passed away, and then later on in the book, it says that he searched for Arick as soon as he knew his mother was okay.
I have to deduct an entire star for that. Probably more when I write it out like that, but I’m pretty good at ignoring stuff in books, so for that reason - 4 stars. Overall, the relationship was really sweet and another member is added to the Nightshade team.
Have been waiting for this one, glad Orion got his story. From best friends as kids to spending years looking for each other always ending in dead ends. When Arick son went missing he gave up everything to search for him. He was finally led to Nightshade security. When Orion first saw Sol he recognised him as his long lost friend when he was younger. He kept Sol safe wanting to find answers Brilliant read couldn't put it down . Read the trigger warnings but brilliant read.
This book touched on a serious topic of human trafficking but also the possibility of a second chance at love and reconnection. It shows the importance of a found family and having love and support. I wasn't ready for the story to end and would have loved more chapters or sections from Sol's POV.
My favorite book so far! I loved how Orion was able to rescue Arick's son and then he was reunited with him and it was beautiful. I was so glad that the horrible Varr got exactly what he deserved especially after learning he was the one who had Sol, Arick's son kidnapped in the first place. The last story with Tank is a surprise.
Found family and reconnected…so much love at Nightshade. The guys certainly know how to dish up and steaming pile of justice. Don’t forget the momma bears of the world!!!
This one gutted me then put me back together. My heart hurt for all three of them. For what Orion went through as a child. For what Sol went through and all that Arick was feeling while he looked for his son. Really wish a team like this existed.
