The author presents seven basic "secrets" for women to get ahead in business: 1)Find a mentor, 2)Develop an effective network, 3) Communicate effectively, 4)Learn how to balance work and home 5)Learn how to take smart risks, 6) Increase your visibility, and 7)Understand the politics of the organization. She introduces the book with 4 P's for every woman that are the bed rock of the book - performance, perseverance, practice and patience.

Overall, the book has good, practical advice for women. I think the book should be updated to include information about social media in the visibility section. It is a good, basic, foundation for further exploration. Take each section and use those to expand your research and reading.

I wish i had read this book earlier but better late than never. It does get a bit too detailed but i think they are trying to cover every point without leaving any room for assumptions.

The secrets are described from women's perspective and not generalized which is what I liked .This book is pretty lengthy but information is really useful for women.
