"Shattered Justice" is a boxed set of four of bestselling author's Paul Levine's most acclaimed thrillers.
“Solomon vs. Lord” features the mismatched legal team, Steve Solomon and Victoria Lord. He's the irreverent, rule-breaking trial lawyer, and she's his uptight, by-the-book counterpart. Here’s the setup:
Victoria Lord follows all the rules... Steve Solomon makes up his own... When they defend an accused murderer, they'll either end up in ruin, in jail...or in bed.
"Remarkably fresh and original with characters you can't help loving and sparkling dialogue that echoes the Hepburn-Tracy screwball comedies. A hilarious, touching and entertaining twist on the legal thriller." -- Chicago Sun-Times
The second book, THE DEEP BLUE ALIBI takes Solomon and Lord deep into a murder case in the Florida Keys and was nominated for the Edgar Allan Poe Award.
The third book, “To Speak for the Dead,” introduced the world to Jake Lassiter, the linebacker-turned-lawyer with a hard bark and a tender heart. The book was an international bestseller and was named by the Los Angeles Times as one of the best mysteries of the year.
A doctor in love with his patient's wife... A fatal mistake during surgery... Accident? Malpractice? Or murder?
Finally comes “Illegal,” the thriller set in California and Mexico, “Illegal” tells a story of human trafficking and sex slavery, a mother's love for her son, and the redemption of a man intent on escaping his past. The setup:
A down-and-out L.A. lawyer with nothing to lose... A beautiful Mexican woman who disappears crossing the border... And the powerful and corrupt rancher who would destroy them both.

When the world’s two most famous men–Albert Einstein and Charlie Chaplin–uncover the scheme, which includes the assassination of Hollywood’s biggest stars, they fight back with nothing but their ingenuity, raw courage, and the fierce resolve of Georgia Ann Robinson, LAPD’s first Black female officer.

The trial races toward a conclusion that is both satisfying and startling." - Foreword Reviews
Turned off shortly into the book. The main character has the joys for the skinny lawyer lady. She comes to his house to pick up something and he answers the door in a towel, introduced her to his special needs nephew he is trying to get custody of and his naked girl friend wonders in from the bed room. So tired of stupid unlikely sex scenes. I have up on the book but expect that he will bed the skinny but pretty lawyer lady .
This set is a collection about the Characters Levine writes about. I thought would be all Solomon and Lord. The disappointing thing is instead of editing. Four novels and four excerpts are smooshed together. So your read the same words over and over. Someone could have edited very easily. but because smooshed it becomes easily recognizable use of templates as well as how easy you could switch names in the books and would not create anything unique. The characters are interchangable...you never would have known in a series but in a collection so evident. Also because of this, there never felt like any climatic event for each book it all becomes run on. Levine writes a great book bad marketing ploy with this set.
Although Levine isn't as well written as John Grishom, his legal thrillers are still fun to read. He has some outrageous action in his novels, which make them more unbelievable, hence fun to read instead of challenged to figure out the way the legal system works! I love page turners, and Levine delivers! It is difficult to put down one of his novels. My favorite in this collection was Soloman vs Lord. I had previously read Illegal, and the last one wasn't my cup of tea...... but a page turner nonetheless!
The first three books in the Shattered Justice series by Paul Levine were entertaining and interesting but often tedious. However, the fourth book, Illegal, drew you in and kept you in its grip. In this book, Illegal, Mr. Levine shows what he is capable of as a writer.
Illegal was the one book, in this series, that was a pleasure to read handling difficult issues and disturbing incidents with carefulness and tender moments winding up with a realistic ending that was also satisfying.
Overall I think this series will be well suited for YA readers.
No one is a saint in these well crafted books; just real people trying to do right in an unjust world. I know these books are fiction but this world would be a much better place if we [following the examples of these protagonists] had more compassion and acted justly instead of selfishly! I find myself moved and inspired. Thank you Mr. Levine.
These were well written suspenseful page turners that kept me up too late. The characters are exceptionally vivid and compelling. I would recommend these books to anyone who likes action filled, suspenseful books. I chose these books by accident as I didn’t recognize the author or the titles. It was a happy accident.
A great collection of lawyer thrillers! I’m hard put to choose a favorite story, all were so good! There’s Solomon and Lord - who are like oil and water apart, but whiskey and soda together. There’s Jake Lassiter - football pro turned lawyer and Jimmy Payne, the world’s strangest human rights advocate. All good! Highly recommended!
From the start, the story keeps you engaged. The visual images are vivid and draws you into the story. The conversations and banter are: hilarious, poignant and thought provoking. The characters are quite colorful and interesting. A great story even if the ending is somewhat predictable.
Three books in one. I enjoyed all of them. Sometimes hard to remember details of the current book without one's mind meshing with details of the previous.
Levine continues what Perry Mason started, legal thrillers. These have more violence and gore and sex than the TV series. The pace is fast and the characters interesting. Okay for not being my cup of tea.
And I mean that literally, it was like when you're the passenger in a speeding car and you are pushing your foot to the floor. I had to hold back from jumping out of my chair, the action was so real feeling I wanted to jump into the action.
So far I’ve read 3 off the books in this series. One was good and two were at the 2 star level. I’m going to try to finish off the series but I’m not sure I’ll make it.
Loved all the characters and the development of the relationships of all for stories. Great suspense and excellent descriptions of both physical and emotional trauma.
I particularly enjoyed the Solomon and Lord segments, but there was so much filler between stories it was difficult to know whether you were reading a new story or a come on for a different book.
Full bodied characters you care about. Clever dialogues, tears, out -loud laughter, and complex events that are so-not-boring. This is absolutely a must -read!!
You get more bang for your buck. When you find an author you really enjoy the pleasure of going directly from one book to the next it is really satisfying.
