Enjoy this fantastic spin-off to the timeless classic series ASTERIX, translated and distributed for the first time in North America.
Dogmatix and his fine furry (or feathery!) friends are unstoppable - indomitable - in52 B.C.E. And they stand up to the Roman invaders, like General Labienus and his pack of dogs. Lutetia will not be completely conquered!
This is a fun book to read, great for young kids. It follows a group of dogs, a cat and a bird. They are in the Roman times and are always going on adventure and trying to our smart the Roman dogs. Very cute and fun to read.
Thank you so much, Papercutz and NetGalley, for providing me with this arc in exchange for my honest review.
Living in Belgium, this is the kind of comics I grew up with. I am very familiar with the adventures of Asterix and his friend Obelix. This is a great spinn-off series of those comics. Again with incredible art, but focused on animals instead of humans, resisting the invading Romans.
We follow a group of unlikely animal friends, lead by a small but brave and determined little dog, called Dogmatix. Apart from 3 dogs of all sizes, there’s also a pigeon and a cat. They are properly introduced to us at the start.
This was unputdownable, fast paced, funny, lighthearted and well thought out. I very much enjoyed reading this!!
Always outsmarting the roman dogs, cat and guards, we follow our animal friend’s adventures in 3 separate episodes.
Episode one revolves around retrieving a very bouncy ball, in a mission impossible kind of way!
Episode two is a mystery revolving around everyone suddenly developing the hiccups.
In episode three, a rebellious singer causes trouble and needs to be saved.
Firstly, a huge thank you to NetGalley and Papercutz for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Man, I haven't read Astrix in years so 'Dogmatix and the Indomitables, Vol. 1 by Yves Coulon: Matthieu Choquet; Jérôme Erbin was a really nostalgic read. It brought old memories and feelings from when I was a child (as triggering as that is).
It's dogs, so let's be fair here and talk about the fact that there isn't much of a plot and that's okay because it was still really enjoyable and the art is incredible.
This is a very cute graphic novel about a group of dogs who are trying to resist the Roman empire in Gaul. The names and puns can be entertaining enough for adults, and the fun storylines are great for children. This series is a spinoff of the Asterix graphic novels, and fans will enjoy little references, but everyone can enjoy this book whether they've read Asterix or not.
Thank you to Netgalley and to Papercutz for the chance to read this book in exchange for a review. All my opinions are my own.
Three delightful short stories about Dogmatix and his animal friends. Set in the world of Asterix, I wondered why Dogmatix was not with his human friends, and why he's in Lutetia (ancient Paris) and not in the village where we got to know him. This has two answers: 1. Who cares? 2. It's said in an afterword that this is a prequel<\i> to the Asterix books. One may look forward to an epic and emotional first meeting. This happens in Asterix and the Banquet. Little kids can enjoy this book and learn some history, or even start reading like I did some years ago with an Asterix book. Parents can do worse than using this as an introduction to reading and comics.
Thanks to Netgalley and Papercutz for providing an ARC.
A fun spin-off from the much loved Asterix, this volume of dogmatix and the indomitables is a collection of three comic strips. We follow Dogmatix and his furry and feathered friends as they aid the characters of Asterix in their fight against the Romans. For those who grew up with Asterix and Obelix this is a trip down memory lane. Thank you to NetGalley and Papercutz for this arc.
Dogmatix & his indomitable team are lovable and hilarious in this 3 in 1 graphic novel about a group of animals in 52 BC who love hanging out, getting into hijinx, and standing up to their Roman bullies. Great for young/middle grade readers who enjoy talking animals, heros, and historical fiction.
