This was a fascinating book. I've always had an interest in the Amish life, and I love Amish fiction, so this book was very interesting to me. This was an interesting book because it's written in the words of the Amish, consisting of diary entries from Amish communities all over the country, plus Canada. We read about the food they eat, the chores they do, their families, the jobs some of them do away from home, and just everyday happenings in their lives. I enjoyed it.
This was a very interesting read. The contents and pics are from over 100 Amish families who agreed to participate in the project that Bob Ottum wanted to do. He wanted to do a book about 'A Day in the Life of the Amish', but wanted it to be from the p.o.v. of the Amish themselves. I enjoyed it very much.
Charming and nostalgic accounts written by 100 Amish in diary form accompanied by photos taken by them. Of the many religions in this world I deeply admire the depth of the Amish. They were horribly persecuted in their homeland of Switzerland for 1000 years before emigrating to this land of religious freedom. Their deep devotion to God and family is an inspiration to me.
I think the Amish are fascinating - living the lifestyle they do in today's hurried world. I enjoyed getting a glimpse into their everyday lives from their own point of view. I am astounded at the amount of work they can accomplish in a day, despite their "slower" lifestyle! It made me motivated to get up and use my time more wisely.
