I usually don't read paranormal books with vampires, warewolves and the like but I tool a chance with this novel because my book, Day After Disaster, has a strong female lead just like this one. I wanted to see how Victoria crafted the character and I was not disappointed at all. the lead character is strong and parnormally powerful but also shows vulnerability and weakness. Very well done.

The story was a little slow at the start but plot needed to be laid out so you could understand the nuances

Torrance Tran, aka Victoria Novak, is a sorceress. Actually, she is The sorceress, the only one, which makes her much more powerful than an ordinary witch. Raised by vampires, Tor has no memory of her family. After being trained to kill vampires by her mentor, the coven leader wants to use her to kill. Tor runs away and tries to lead an ordinary life as an accountant. For the past couple of years, Trey has been her best friend. When Trey is wounded and needs

Dude I am totally PUMPED UP about this new series! Seriously, think Anita Blake, in the beginning when she was totally bad ass, meets Rachel Morgan. HA!!! Totally powerful and bad ass in both ladies right, except that Tori has a serious mouth on her, and people can't say her name because it's cursed, and she can literally kill you quicker hahahaha, and she dies, several times, but it's ok, because she doesn't stay dead, and no she doesn't turn vamper or zombie. HEHE! See, you totally wanna read ...more

Anita Blake is an interesting character with a flair for being bad but loveable. While Tori seems to be gifted with longevity of life because no matter how many times she dies she keeps getting resurrected which is totally awesome and exciting. She is the queen of secrets and no one knows who she truly is with all the wonderful powers that she possesses. To add the icing on the cake she was recruited by the FBI to aide in the disc

On Goodreads, it's a 3; on Amazon, it's a 4. So, I guess my rating is more of a 3.5. I liked this book. It reminded me a lot of another series that I read. The story is told in first person, and I love that the first person is a badass female! Her best friend, Trey, is great! I can't help but love him. I enjoyed the storyline - sorceress in hiding has to make herself known to keep her best friend (who just happens to be a werewolf) from being killed. I'm a HUGE fan of paranormal characters and t ...more

You haven't seen action packed until you read Havoc's Cry. Victoria Novak is one of three sorceresses in the world and the only one raised by vampires to kill renegade vampires for them. You know she is tough.

Unfortunately, she has had no one to teach her about her powers as a sorceress. She only begins to find and explore them after she escapes the vampire coven, the only family she has ever known. First she tries to lead a normal human existence as an accountant. She knows she has an affinity

My first paranormal book review: Awesome

Loren Weaver has introduced me to the paranormal genre. I had never read a book about werewolves, vampires, witches, and sorceresses, but now I can say I have read one and really enjoyed it. After reading the first chapter I almost quit, but something intrigued me about 'Havoc's Cry. By the end of the third chapter I was hooked and thoroughly enjoying learning about the paranormal. Unfortunately, I have no other paranormal books to use for comparison. But

What a refreshing look at the paranormal world of vampires, witches, and werewolves. The story is more suspense than most. The lead character, Tori is funny, sarcastic, and tough. You have to be when you're out killing rouge vampires and werewolves. This is not a dull moment in the story. All the characters are well-developed and easy to identify.

The book is well-written and has some lovely turn of phrases. All the back story and relevant information are woven into the story nicely without beco

Victoria Novak is a sorceress, and the most powerful one at that. She's been in hiding since she escaped from the coven of vampires that was holding her. She has a job and a best friend, Trey. But Trey is more than he seems.
And when photos of her killing rogue vamps surface with the FBI, she is unexpectedly thrown back into the mix, whether she likes it or not.

Loren Weaver's debut novel, Havoc's Cry, features a great cast of characters, especially the strong female lead, Victoria. Many female pr

Havoc's Cry immediately pulls the reader in with the opening chapter; it is action packed and introduces the reader to Victoria Novak, a girl raised by vampires. She also has a secret. In this fictional world paranormal creatures are the sub-class and Victoria wants to unite humanity and the paranormal community.

I liked that she is a strong female character and that romance or even love triangles didn't intrude. Trey is a worthy support character as her best friend and he too has a secret of hi

Tori and Trey are good friends but neither one knows that the other one has a secret that they don't want the world to know. They live in a world where humans and paranormals are attempting to live together. Unfortunately, as with humans, there are some bad paranormals. Tori is approached by the FPD (Federal Paranormal Division). They know who she really is. They want to recruit her to help them find a brutal murderer amongst the paranormal. After some soul searching, Tori realizes that she can' ...more

Havoc's Cry is an action packed story centered around Victoria Novak, a girl raised by vampires, but she has some power of her own. She's approached by the Federal Paranormal Division (FPD). They want to recruit her to help them solve a series of brutal murders that are being committed within the paranormal community.

I loved the world the author created, where paranormals and humans are attempting to live in harmony together. She explained each paranormal species and their powers, and did a grea

Havoc's cry was a nice return to well written books. One thing I love to find in a novel is a lesson that can be taught. In today's world, diversity is an ever evolving issue. People are on both sides and no one can seem to realize that there shouldn't be sides at all. Havoc's Cry does a great job of making the reader look at diversity through fresh eyes. As an author myself, I try to put deeper meaning in all of my work through the plot and sub-plots. Havoc's Cry has wonderful back stories and ...more

I love this book. It is so action packed, full of mistery and it is so well written.
The writing style is amazing. The details in this book are something that I love so much. Weaver really explored the whole paranormal world of this book and she described it so well.
This is the book where a reader says that famous sentence :" Just one more chapter." because you can't put it down.

This book basically follows Victoria as she becomes a special agent for the Federal Bureau of Paranormal and hunts down a murderer.

I’m going to start by saying I don’t have a lot of experience with urban/paranormal books. I’ve been branching out to them lately and have found that I can enjoy them so long as they have the right tone. In my limited experience, I’ve never run across a world such as the one in this book where the monsters are out in plain view, actual citizens. They usually skulk in

Havoc's Cry by Loren Weaver has left me with extremely mixed feelings. While the writing improved as the book went on, the first four chapters were extremely slow and no real plot introduction or movement was noticeable until the fourth chapter. Even then, it was a while before any mention of the murders took place and Victoria (or any of the other characters) had a real purpose.

Ms. Weaver creates a complex world where paranormals and humans coexist. The detail of the differing paranormal worlds

Havoc's cry takes place in a world much like ours, but paranormals have come out of the wood work and are living amongst humans. The author went to great lengths to build a complex paranormal world and clearly defined a variety of types of paranormals, the kinds of powers they had, even a bit of a hierarchy amongst them based on their strength and power (though this might be hotly debated amongst the paranormals themselves!). I appreciated the level of detail and thought that went into defining ...more

A fast-moving story with lots of battles and a leading lady that is kick-ass tough, intelligent, sarcastic and oh, yeah, the only living sorceress in the US and maybe even, the world. Really liked that the para-normals lived amongst humans and although their society and hierarchies among them were very specific and described in detail, I had no problem following the plot. Also liked that the FBI had to form a new division just to deal with all the paranormal goings-on! I can see a movie or TV se ...more

Slow start but gains speed and a plot as the book moves on. It gives some background to the series of paranormals who govern other paranormals. The background information is woven into the plot of a murder which this newly founded group of the FBI must solve while learning about each other and how to be a team. Look forward to more in this series.

Loren Weaver is an engineer for an oil company as her day job. She loves crazy sports and has her black belt in Tae Kwon Do, master SCUBA diver certificate, and motorcycle license. Although engineering pays the rent, she writes because she loves to hear and to tell a good story.
