I have to admit that I am trying to teach myself new things - I know I could say that there comes a point where you have read too many books but I can assure that will never happen. Rather I want something to take me away from my books so that when I pick one up to read again I appreciate it all the more - so here I go.

This is a basic introduction to the hobby - which is rather ironic considering I have helped out with groups that have done this as both fun and therapy but I thought it was time to learn what I was doing rather than blindly following. I am not sure how much has sunk in - I will let you know how I get on but hey it was fun.

So I guess this is the first time I have thrown a rhetorical question over the fence but apart from reading what do you do to entertain yourself and pass the time - and I guess in these strange times keep sane.

I like how this book has a section on various knots that are commonly used. Other books have failed to do this, though they may have given step by step instructions without labeling what type of knot they were teaching you. This isn't a complete book by any means, but it is a handy reference for some common outdoor type projects. It would make a handy supplement to another more complete work.

Overall, the list of projects is good. The descriptions and photos of some knots are lacking. I will have to source other material to figure out how to do the lanyard knot for example. I think this is definitely a good beginner book for those interested in paracording.

A very solid starting book. It fails in some places such as providing the full name for some of the knots it uses but the projects are basics to get you started on creating your own.
