Rest In Peace

This is the story of a young woman who had a hard time trying to keep herself from drinking and causing problems in her family especially when she was accused of murder that she did not commit. This is my review and mine alone. Norma Gorrill

I've been a fan of the Eva Rae Thomas series since book one; each has capitvated me and held my attention, making it hard to put down. However, these last two books in the series were utter duds. On top of the numerous typos and inattentive editing, it lacked the energy that is often found in Rose's writing. Much of the dialogue was character's talking out loud to themselves, which grew old, fast, not to mention there were so many parts of the book where characters were inconsistent. There were also a ton of redundancies within the book, and pieces that seemed like unnecessary filler. It felt like Rose tried to throw in Eva Rae's relationship with Matt, but it was awkward, inconsistent, and cheesy at best, the same with her family. She went from being fierce and fearless to being scared and unsure with a blink of an eye; it just didn't flow. The detective's lack of willingness to even entertain anything she said was highly unbelievable, and even Eva Rae's work ethic was questionable. The storyline could have really been great, but it just fell short.

Title: Rest in Peace (Eva Rae Thomas FBI Mystery Book 15)

Author: Willow Rose

Genre: Thriller/Mystery

Rating: ★★★★☆
Release Date: 8th May 2024

Willow Rose's "Rest in Peace" is a gripping and chilling instalment in the Eva Rae Thomas series that had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. This thrilling mystery is packed with twists, turns, and a relentless race against time.

Sarah Chapman is furious and drunk as she drives home, ready to confront her husband, Steven. But when a neighbour rushes to help after hearing a commotion, he finds Sarah with a gun in her hand and Steven dead in their bed. Sarah is arrested, but she insists she’s innocent.

The only one who believes her is FBI profiler Eva Rae Thomas, who knows Sarah personally and is convinced of her innocence despite the incriminating circumstances. As more bodies turn up, Eva Rae starts to see connections that others miss, leading her on a frantic quest to prove Sarah’s innocence and catch the real murderer before it's too late and her own family becomes a target.

What I Loved:

1. Engaging Protagonist: Eva Rae Thomas is a strong, intelligent, and determined protagonist. Her personal connection to Sarah adds depth to her character and drives her relentless pursuit of the truth.
2. Twisty Plot: The plot is filled with twists and turns that keep you guessing. Just when you think you have it figured out, another layer of secrets and lies is revealed, keeping the suspense high.
3. Fast-Paced Action: The pacing is superb, with a sense of urgency that propels the story forward. Eva Rae’s race against time to uncover the real murderer and save her own family keeps you hooked.
4. Chilling Atmosphere: Willow Rose expertly creates a chilling atmosphere, with each new body adding to the tension and the stakes. The sense of danger is palpable, making for a truly thrilling read.
5. Complex Characters: The characters are well-developed and multi-dimensional. Sarah’s plight evokes sympathy, and the dynamic between Eva Rae and the determined detective adds an interesting layer of conflict.

Sarah’s drunken state and the ensuing chaos create a memorable and unconventional start to the mystery. This unusual setup immediately grabbed my attention and sets the stage for the unraveling of a complex and compelling case. It made the story different and the character realistic.

"Rest in Peace" is a fun, fast-paced, and chilling thriller that will keep you guessing until the very end. Willow Rose delivers a masterful blend of suspense, mystery, and drama that fans of the genre will love.

Eva Rae Thomas’s determination to seek justice, even when faced with daunting obstacles, is inspiring and makes her a character you can’t help but root for.

This novel is perfect for those who enjoy a good mystery with plenty of twists, a strong female lead, and a race against time.

Life isn't a bed of roses at the moment for FBI profiler Eva Rae Thomas, her detective partner, Matt, had been injured in the line of duty resulting in a leg amputation, a situation that he wasn't coming to terms with, he was grumpy, he was neither accepting help from others or helping himself but underneath he was scared witless that Eva Rae was putting her's and the lives of her family in danger.
To add to Eva Rae's misery, her friend, Sarah, had been accused of murder, a murder that Eva Rae knew that she hadn't committed, the clues were there but the local detective in charge of the case wouldn't listen, even when more bodies appeared, all with the same MO, Eva Rae was bashing her head against a brick wall, the local PD weren't interested, she would have to find the murderer without their help.
Matt was getting angrier, Eva Rae was putting her job before her family but she couldn't let her friend go to prison for a murder that she didn't commit, Eva Rae was torn, the atmosphere at home was bad, would they ever get back to the way they were ?
This story is written from many points of view, the suspects are many, the twists and turns are endless, how many more people would die before anyone would listen to her ?
I have always enjoyed Willow Rose's mysteries and this one didn't disappoint, I love it when I can't predict the ending of a story and I must admit that I didn't see this one coming.

Eva Rae Thomas, FBI Profiler is drawn into a case when an acquaintance of hers is accused of murder. Even though Sarah Chapman was drunk at the time and standing over her dead husband's body holding the murder weapon, Eva Rae doesn't believe for a moment that Sarah killed her husband. Unfortunately, the detective in charge of the investigation won't listen to her assertions that there is much more to the case than is readily apparent. Even after two more murders, and with the main suspect behind bars the stubborn detective is convinced that Sarah is responsible for the crimes. Eva Rae keeps digging through the clues and to her eyes a patten and intersecting lives become even more clear with each fact she uncovers. When the picture is clear Eva Rae still has to prove that Sarah is innocent and protect her own family from a murderer that really doesn't want the truth to be exposed.
Wow, I loved this book! Nail biting suspense and so many twists in the plot left me reeling. The characters in this book are all well written, utterly fascinating and very realistic. I definitely recommend this book to other readers and to any fan of mystery thrillers.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

Eva Rae sees a pattern evolving when the evidence does not support the purported theory. The detective refuses to consider Eva Rae's version of the case but she does not back down. She refuses to allow an innocent woman go down for a murder she did not commit.

As usual Willow Rose has written a very interesting case for Eva to work. I like that Eva is like a bulldog when it comes to solving cases. As long as the story revolves mostly on the case, I enjoy reading it. Where the story fails for me is Eva Rae's home life. I get that there are times when family life is in an uproar and things do not always go smoothly but it seems like that situation is the norm for Eva Rae's family. She has enough conflicts and stress in her job to add drama to her story without it invading her home life all the time. It would be nice if her home life offset her work life by there being more support from her family instead of a constant battle regarding her job. That would likely be more available if she could learn to put her job on the back burner when she is at home with her family.

I received an ARC of this book. My honest opinion is freely given.

Sarah is drunk and furious with her husband. As she careens down the road to his house, she makes her presence known by hitting trash cans and scattering trash. When she goes into his house, she finds him dead and she picks up his gun.

She's known to the police and she's accused of murder. Then someone else in the neighborhood dies while she is in custody. Eva Rae thinks that the first and second murders were staged, but she can't get through to the detective in charge.

Sarah's daughter has been very sick for a long time. She is temporarily living with her paternal grandmother while her mother is in jail. Eva wants to interview everyone in the neighborhood, including the girl, but she encounters road blocks.

Also, Eva's long time love, Matt, was seriously hurt in the previous book and he's depressed and not getting stronger. So, as always, Eva has a lot on her shoulders. But being the person that she is, she just perseveres until she's got the evidence that she needs.

Another great Eva Rae story, somewhat shorter than usual, but still a great read.

I read Rest in Peace by Willow Rose in less than a day. The author has such a way with words. Poetic and tense. I almost imagine that “little vials of lies” as mentioned in the climax would make for a more appropriate and interesting title.
There were a few things that I didn’t think seemed logical. First, the detective seemed too protective of Adam, the husband of the deceased. Regardless of it seeming like a suicide, I would assume that he’d check the bullet used before being so ready to back Adam and bash Eva Rae. Second, she’s an FBI agent. When Adam launches at her, she leaves. Not sure of many people who would flinch at a federal agent, but I would have cuffed him, lol.
Alright, don’t pointing things that could have made more sense. Kudos to the author for the ending. I didn’t guess who the culprit was, and Willow Rose did great. Sherry gave us a few possible suspects, which I can appreciate. Nice epilogue and happy to see Eva Rae and Matt are on good terms.

Sarah Chapman is found with a gun in her hand, a dead husband and totally drunk. It seems like a slam-bang case and the detective in charge puts Sarah in jail. Eva Mae doesn't think Sarah killer her husband since she knows her and that she wouldn't do it. So she gets involved and starts digging into the husband and follows a slew of clues most taking her for a ride or are red-herrings. But when there are two more murders while Sarah is in jail, the stubborn detective still think she is guilty. But Eva Rae is digging through all the clues so far and sees a pattern. Can she catch a murderer before he kills again or she is in his sights and free Sarah? This is a fast paced book with a great surprise ending! I recommend this book highly and the whole series is amazing. I received and ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

Rest in Peace was a whodunnit with people being killed left and right. Unfortunately, it was slow going and became a lesson in page-scanning. Not much was happening; each situation was dragged out with dialogue and repetition.
Those who were supposed to solve the crimes were not the brightest bulbs on the tree. Detective Ryan refused to acknowledge that there was a pattern to these murders. Never mind that there were identical notes at each of the murders. FBI agent Thomas invented lie after lie for her husband and family and then wondered why her relationship was in bad shape.
My believability factor had to be at zero if I were to believe this very contrived ending.

You’ll never guess who the killer is!

Sarah Chapman was accused of killing her husband. The only person who thought she was innocent was Eva Rae Thomas, an FBI agent. Every time you think, you know what happened, you’re wrong. Lots of twists and turns that will keep you guessing all the way to the end. I love the whole Eva Rae Thomas series.

Another good read from Willow Rose. The story is intriguing, and very well written. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves mystery thrillers, and Willow Rose fans will not be disappointed!

“For now, I was tethered to this world of secrets and shadows, bound by a promise to the silent victims whose voices cried out for justice. There was work to be done, and I would not rest until the killer was found. Each photograph and report was now a piece of a larger, sinister puzzle, and I was determined to put it together, no matter the cost.” - Eva Rae

Come my friends; come join Eva Rae in her latest thriller, where the victims might not be as innocent as portrayed, and danger explodes from unexpected blind corners…

When a friend is charged with the murder of her husband, Eva Rae steps in to prove she didn't do it. Things at home are not ideal, since Matt was shot. He is not trying to get better and has given up on getting back to work and it is affecting the family. This thriller has so many twists and turns that it is hard to guess who is killing and why. Eva Rae is determined to find the truth, while dealing with her home life. This is an unputdownable book that I would definitely recommend. FBI profiler, Eva Rae Thomas is back in action. Eva Rae’s friend Sarah’s husband is found dead in bed after an argument with intoxicated Sarah. Eva Rae fights to prove her innocence while police want to nail her with the crime. There are more murders with the same MO, but the police still don’t listen. True to style, Eva Rae digs and digs to uncover the truth. There is danger and twists, that we love in all of Willow Rose’s books. I received an ARC copy from the author and this is my honest review.

Ms. Rose takes a situation from real-life headlines, adds strong characters, vivid scenes, and some beachfront atmosphere, then applies her talent for crafting an intriguing mix of twists and turns that pulled me in and kept me engrossed right through to the finish. I try to figure out whodunit and am usually surprised by the ending, but I’m always well satisfied by the story. I’ve read about two dozen books by this fabulous storyteller and have thoroughly enjoyed them all. If you like good mysteries that are easy to read, Ms. Rose should be your first choice!

Sarah Chapman and her husband are separated. She gets drunk and comes to his residence and finds him dead. She is arrested for murder. FBI agent Eva Rae Thomas wants to help her friend because she is innocent. Detective Ryan does not want Eva Rae near the case and he says she is guilty. A rush to find the real killer. More murders posed in the same fashion of others. This was impossible to put down, I had to keep reading.

The fifteenth book in the Eva Rae Thomas series is awesome. The plot was so good. I was flipping pages non-stop! The twists and turns kept me on my toes! I loved the drama and suspense. I enjoy seeing Eva Rae navigate through her job and her family problems. The author did a fantastic job of making Detective Ryan a character you love to hate. I wasn’t too sure what the outcome was going to be with Matt. The emotional ending was amazing. I loved it.

A suspenseful mystery that will keep you guessing!

Willow Rose does it again. This is about a murder that sounds like an open and shut case by the local police. Agent Eva Rae Thomas disagrees and will not stop asking questions until she gets the answer to the murders. Yes, what starts out as one murder, ends up with 3 connected murders. Eva Rae battles with the police chief through the entire investigation.

Eva Rae is Unstoppable! Doesn't matter if the local police reject her help; or if her personal life is in shambles. She does not quit until the case is solved!
Overall this is a good read. Eva's home life is full of tension throughout the story; not good, especially for the children... There were a few spots in the story that dragged. The search for the killer(s), the storyline and plot, were well worth the read. 3 1/2 stars.

Iv read all the Eva Rae books. This one I wasn’t a big fan of. Just was incredibly waffly and dull in parts. Matt became increasingly needy and winey and Eva Rae was unsure of herself and spent too much time discussing dinner and long winded passages about her and Matt’s feelings , most unusual for these characters as in past books they have been independent, determined and a lot more action packed. The whole book wasnt that thrilling.

Rest In Peace is the 15th book in the Eva Rae Thomas series. and once again this is a entertaining read and one that kept me turning the pages. I would recommend this book to this book to those that enjoy thrillers.

I have followed all.of the Eva Rae books this one I don't know what to say, it was not as thrilling and did not capture my attention as much as the others did. Her romance and love for Matt as kinda dwindled. He played 2nd fiddle to her friend that was in jail for murder. There was to many different players in this it got to be confusing. I am on to the next one I hope it captures my imagination like the others did.

There are 17 books I have read 15 and the books are getting so hard to believe - she is mad because Det Ryan did not want her help 'Her emotions are always whirling inside of me as she is still cursing Det Ryan' But Ryan dismisses everything anyway and then takes a few steps beyond that seriously?? The person who committed the murders would have gotten away with it if they had not killed 3 people on one street Does Eva Rae even work for the FBI

This wasn't one of her stronger ones. It did still leave me somewhat guessing and questioning. In the end, I wasn't expecting the villain to be who they were, and then, even then, there was a twist on who it was.

I felt some of the story line and chapters did drag on unnecessarily, and the Epilouge was pointless to an extend, I didn't even continue reading it.

Overall I'd rate it 3.5. Her earlier books were much better reads.
