Since I have been in an ADULT mood lately, I was excited to start Lie by Night. Not only that, but as you know, my love for romantic suspense has been steadily on the rise. Lie by Night had a great mix of mystery, suspense with a dash of romance that I thoroughly enjoyed.

After Emma receives a mysterious note about how to find her brother, Jacob, she sets out to an Island when she runs into someone from both her past, Cole. Cole, is on the hunt for Emma’s brother as well, begrudgingly teams up

This was my first Cathy Marlowe book and it won't be my last. I LOVE entangled publishing authors.

I will not bore you with the whole plot of the book, for that you can read the synopsis and I will not leave any spoilers.

Emma Bailey loves her brother, will do anything for him, so when he sends her something and asks her to take care of it until he can get there to retrieve it that's just what she does. However, when he fails to show up she decides to head out and found him. Of course,

Emma is on a mission looking for her missing brother Jacob, and Cole is trying to stop a drug lord who escaped.

The two characters are attracted to each other but there is no trust. They both want something from each other but how far will they take it. This is a romantic suspence and the suspence part didn't disappoint. It has you captivated and at times at the edge of your reading seat wondering what will happen to the working team duo. There is a lot of twist

Lie by Night is an Out of Darkness novel by author Cathy Marlowe and the first of her work that I have read. The cover alone had my attention and the story kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end.

Emma Bailey was used to not knowing where her brother was, what type of mission he was off doing, or how long he would be gone for but one thing she always knew was that he would call her every Sunday. After all, they only had each other as family. So it was extremely unnerving when she didn’t

Emma’s brother Jacob has been missing a week when she receives a letter stating that if she wants to find her brother, she must travel deep into forest of Dark Island in the South Pacific. While she knows she is not truly capable of a rescue mission, she has no choice. Jacob told her to trust no one in his last communication to her and that is what she must do. So with very few supplies, she makes her way to the island in hopes of saving her brother.
Cole is a total badass who works top secret

Lie by Night was a great and thrilling romantic suspense novel. Though there was more of the suspense than romance. But what romance we did get was enough to curl your toes.

Emma Bailey is on a quest to find her missing brother. Being the only family she has, Emma will go to any extent to find her brother and bring him back home. A week ago her brother gifted her a can of mace, with a microchip hidden inside,

I often heard of romantic suspense, but until now I hadn't read one and I regret it now. The mix of romance, thriller and actions, it's just all that I like. Cole and Emma's adventures are addictive, we lets ourself take with the game by putting forth hypotheses and we start to hope for the best for them. When love versifies with lie and treason, the obstacles are likely to be insurmountable.

Emma is a courageous and honest young woman, she is ready to do anything for her brother Jacob, the last

When Emma meets Cole in Cathy Marlowe’s Lie by Night, they look once, look twice, and know in a moment that “this could be ‘the one.’” But as literature reflects life, things happen. There’s a missing brother in need of help, a megalomaniac who deals in dangerous drugs, an ex-boyfriend who can’t be trusted, a femme fatale with unexplained powers who seems determined to steal Cole away, a young family put in danger again and again. The story unrolls on a Caribbean island, in New York, and in ...more

How far would you go to find your brother or sister? Would you put yourself in potential danger to find him or her? Would your faith and trust in them continue to stand firm despite the mounting evidence that says otherwise?

For Emma, the answer is yes to every one of those questions. And you know what? I loved that about her. Despite everything and everyone she faces in her search for her brother Jacob, she is still willing to do

This is my first time in reading this author but chose it on what it was about because was looking for a good one filled with intrigue. Great beginning that started out with a mystery that had me hooked right away. Emma is looking for her brother who is missing but has no one to turn to for help so off she goes when she is given a clue. Creepy places are great to start with keeps you on edge of your seat on what is going to happen and if she is doing right thing. But help will come unexpectedly ...more
Six months ago hadn’t been their time.
Now was not their time.
Perhaps their time would never come.
That didn’t stop him from wanting it to…

When Emma Bailey’s search for her missing brother literally lands her in the arms of Cole Turner, the man who betrayed her and her brother six months earlier, she has no choice but to turn to him for help, even though she knows she can’t trust him, or her heart.

Cole Stevens thought he had met “the one” in Emma Bailey six months ago, but when Emma catches Cole

This was a rockin' fast-paced ride from the get-go. I really enjoyed the suspense and trying to figure out how they were going to catch the bad guy. I found the sexual tension between Cole and Emma to be great and can understand why she might not trust him (she thought she'd found him with another woman some months earlier, just hours after he had hit on her).

I enjoyed the bad guys and their plotting, along with some of the tricks they used to hopefully stop the heroes from catching them (it

Emma Bailey is in the jungle searching for her missing brother Jacob when out of nowhere a warehouse bursts into flames. The same warehouse that might have had the answer to how to find Jacob, and the person responsible is standing right next to her. Cole Stevens, the man who could have been the one if not for the small fact that he slept with her brothers fiancé the night of their first date, has just blown up her best chance of finding her brother. It seems Cole is just as interested

Emma was on her own quest to locate her missing brother, when she lands on the same island and meets up with the one person she hopes to never see again, Cole.

You can sense there is more to their relationship then either wants to admit, but with their past history neither one is willing to trust the other. I thought the author did a good job capturing their emotions in the book. You could feel

Fantastic romantic suspense!

Emma and Cole have amazing chemistry. I loved being on the edge of my seat, in suspense, while waiting for Jacob to surface throughout the book! At the same time watching Emma and Cole get closer and closer to igniting the flame threatening to burn between them. The hypnotic poison and gas were brilliant! The plot is very cleverly written. (You'd never know this is the author's first novel.) Character development was great! I did not like Cherise! I know that's very

Guys, I really try to be diplomatic about these things but I'm not going to be able to do it.

Here's all you need to know. The relationship, the story, and the fact that this professor decided that she would go to a remote island to save her military trained brother is just laughable. Emma is on the hunt for her missing brother, Jacob. On the island she runs into Cole, a man who she met six months before for one night. He was also friends with Jacob but only for like a week? Like I said, super

What a roller coaster of a ride! The twists and turns, who can you trust, what is the next step? Great action story and intense journey for Emma and Cole. Their immediate connection to each other was nullified through deception and betrayal. It was a fantastic book to read and watch them grow confidence in their ability to trust. Their love for each other was sweet and the way they knew each other was incredible. I loved the way the author took them on a ride and worked all the situations out. ...more

I had never read anything from this author before.

Emma Bailey is a kind sister to her brother who has her keep something for safe keeping.
She goes in search of her brother but finds Cole instead. Here is where the misunderstandings commence for Cole and Emma. There is murder, suspense, intrigue, trust issues and sex. Great!

If they can truly get by the trust issues will everything be better? You will have to read to find out. It will be well worth it. Twist and turns galore. Cole and Emma have
This started out with great promise, but the plot twists were confusing instead of intriguing and I couldn't shake the feeling that I was just reading about a storm brewing in a teacup and the tos-and-fros that felt as though the plot went nowhere. Throw in a large backstory that deserves to be a novel on its own, the number of things to remember became a chore, not a journey. Obviously, judging from the number of starred reviews, this applies only to me, but I thought the issues seemed petty ...more

Cathy Marlowe offers readers a fast paced, well plotted kick off to her Out of Darkness series. AS a suspense novel, it would be enough, but throw in the beautifully interwoven romance and you have the full monte!
Neither the romance nor the suspense were short shifted in this beautifully written story. Ms. Marlowe's characters both primary and secondary are fully faceted and interesting,. The settings were detailed and the dialogue appropriate to characters and situations.

Suspense., romance., and the mystery of Jacobs disappearance keeps you reading way past the time when your mind fogs and begs for sleep. Emma and Cole have many challenges going on in their lives. But. None as hard and complicated as their attraction to each other. This book starts off strong and doesn't stop to the last page. It is well written in great details and the mystery of Jacob's disappearance is revealed and had men smiling that I didn't have a clue. A wonderful mystery mixed with ...more

Recommends it for: Nora Robert fans, romance/suspense
Don’t judge a book by its cover! In this book, there’s a strong element of suspense that is hidden by the hot guy on the cover. An intriguing plot with unexpected events as Emma desperately searches for her brother with, or in spite of, the frustratingly charming and handsome Cole. Captivating plot, convincing dialogue, and characters you’ll care about. I love Nora, but I liked Lie by Night even better than the Nora Roberts suspense I read after it!

I'm rounding up to 4 because the book had a strong start and I liked the hero and heroine. However, it gets 3.5 stars because it started to sag about 3/4s of the way through and then the ending felt rushed. (view spoiler)
