Coveted Bonds #1

How to Train Your Human Omega

Rate this book
Clay

I don't ask for much from life; I get paid, and then I get laid. And piloting spaceships across the galaxy keeps my solo lifestyle well funded. I don't need a relationship or any of the baggage that comes with it. I like my men like I like my coffee; to go.

That is until the most boring job in the universe goes horribly wrong and I’m snatched from my ship by a seven-foot alien. He's huge, he's purple, and he's ripped as hell. I'm sure I'm a dead man.

Only it turns out he doesn't want to kill me. What he wants is far worse.

Arcay

I am the Second, Aldar royalty, the right hand of our leader. But I live a half life. Omegas are a rare treasure, all but extinct on my planet. I have wished my whole life for one of my own, but I am resigned to never knowing the joy of a soul bond.

But that all changes the moment I step onto the human ship. By some miracle, their pilot is an unclaimed omega. It does not matter that he is a different species, I have to have him.

That should be my happy ending; omegas are supposed to be meek, obedient, and willing. Clay is anything but. He resists me at every turn. I must bend him to my will before his potent pheromones draw every unmated alpha–my rank will only hold them back for so long.

How to Train Your Human Omega is a beauty and the beast retelling in the form of an action-packed, spicy, M/M sci-fi romance (with no mpreg) featuring an alien race of beefcakes, a stubborn human, and a very confused and grumpy alien trying to find his happily ever after in all the wrong ways. This book is the first in the Coveted Bonds series, with overarching storylines and recurring characters. Each story follows a different couple to their HEA.

This book has a similar plot to The Alien's Kidnapped Omega by Sienna Sway. I started worrying the similarities would veer uncomfortably close to plagiarism, but the story eventually took a different turn.

Clay, a human pilot, is abducted off his ship by 7 foot plus of purple alien. There are no more omegas left on Aldar, so when Arcay smells a human omega, he claims him on sight. But Arcay is a decent guy, so as much as it goes against his nature, he doesn't force Clay into a claiming. He wants Clay to choose him.

The story is set on a giant alien ship that functions like a city. Arcay is the Second in command, which means he answers only to Jursin the First, who makes Arcay fight to prove that Clay is his.

Clay is a bit of an asshole truth be told. It took me a while to warm up to him. He's scared of commitment and doesn't appreciate being held against his will. But he makes a deal with Arcay: Let the rest of the humans go, and Clay will stay.

Dspite the rushed timeline, the relationship was fairly well developed. Arcay attempting to date Clay was cute as hell.

The MCs have to fight, quite literally, for their soul bond. When I say the last few chapters made me anxious, I mean I was pacing the room while reading. The tension was sky high!

This book is some 340 pages, but it's fast-paced and compulsively readable.

Much to my disappointment, however, there were plot strings left dangling regarding the villain and his nefarious plan. The things the villain got away with were OTT unbelievable.

This is a series, so maybe we'll find out more in the next book, but I was bummed we didn't get that closure.

Seriously, how did Jursin the First and the other leaders have no fucking clue as to the shit going down on their ship?

“His… his mate?” I said as my brain finally caught up and everything fell into place. The way he looked at me, the way he touched me, the way he kept smelling me. I went cold. His mate. Oh shit.

How To Train Your Human Omega was delightfully fun, smutty and romantic.
Despite this not being exactly new material — the premise is quite similar to The Fating and to The Alien's Kidnapped Omega — I still really enjoyed Clay and Arcay’s crazy story.

The characters were great, they had a nice chemistry and the relationship grew at a believable pace. I loved Arcay’s growth throughout the story, going from gruff and rough and stuck in the olden ways to loving and sweet and, as Clay calls him, a big purple puppy.

“I am attempting to perform ‘dating’ with you, but our records do not go into detail about the specifics.”

Another lovely micro trope warning, aliens/creatures that don’t know what kissing is. Gimme gimme.
There was a fair bit of drama, a little touch of miscommunication (they do come from different planets after all), but there was also some humor, yummy smut, a glowing romance, a lot of lovely feels.
I kind of wish there was a second epilogue, something a little more in the future, but that’s probably me not wanting to let these two go.

“Our bond only confirms what I already knew; that you are the only person, human or Aldar, that I want to know with my entire soul.”

This was a very entertaining, fun read, and I look forward to seeing more from Arden Fox.

I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review.

dnf @ 70% - i was actually going to dnf at 35% bc i found arcay to be unlikable af. unforch for me, i was entering the outskirts of slump city and couldn’t find another book to read so i continued on with this one.

i’m sorry it’s just not sexy for these aliens to live and breathe by the motto omegas can’t and shouldn’t say no to alphas😬 arcay gets so angry in the first part of the book bc after kidnapping and stealing and claiming clay as his, regardless of the fact that clay clearly and vehemently vocalizes that he doesn’t want to be there, he wants to go home, arcay is furious bc clay won’t just accept him and fuck him and stay with him forever??? he’s literally like omegas can’t reject alphas so i better do my best to strong arm this human omega into doing as i say.

i don’t care that later arcay decides to “wait for clay to accept him”, the damage is already done. arcay got loud and angry af every time he felt he was rejected, every time clay is like i don’t understand what’s going on, i don’t want to be ur mate, let me go home…..i thought this was supposed to be fluffy and fun wtf that’s scary behavior😭

arcay told clay if he cooperated during some tasks or whatever arcay wanted clay to do, that arcay would let him say goodbye to the humans on the ship and then clay was fussing about something he didn’t want to do and arcay got pissed and was like you don’t get to say goodbye bc the humans have already left….like what😭 and then arcay got mad that clay “ruined” the traditional mating ceremony arcay had set up, the ceremony that clay didn’t even know he was participating in btw, and was so mad he had clay shivering his timbers thinking arcay was bout to take him by force…..ultimately arcay didn’t but like ????😭

which is wild bc at every other turn there was ur typical one note melodramatic villain, whose name i’ve already forgotten, that also wanted clay, threatening to rape him and claim him at every turn. boring, lame, yawn, wattpad.

also arcay explains nothing about the bond and after they mate, clay has a panic attack and feeling suffocated bc the bond is forever and arcay didn’t explain that they’d be able to feel each other and their emotions through the bond. and clay’s whole schtick is mr i’m never settling down, mr one night stands only…..whole book i’m getting the vibe that clay doesn’t want to be there at all, even when he’s supposedly thinking arcay is sexy and lusting after him, i’m like sure🙄 even after they bond and whatnot, if i jumped into the book at 70% and offered to break clay’s bond and help him escape, 100% he’s saying yes🤣🤣🤣

also at one point the “king” basically tells arcay he’s acting like a worthless failure of an alpha bc he hasn’t forced a mate bond on clay yet…..like wtf, this whole thing was very off putting🥴 i thought this was going to be a mated by misunderstanding thing not some intimidated into an unwanted mating bond thing….so maybe that’s my bad. but i’m no stranger to dub con and usually i like goofy, no plot silliness and all that, but the way it was done here was not good. there was no goof to be found. it was icky. plot was tired. every character sucked. boo, bleh, yuck.

* I decided to round the rating up based on how the second book is going (I'm halfway through finishing it). In comparison, this installment definitely deserves it.
_____________________________________

Re-read on Jan 25th/25

I've re-read this one because I'm off to read the next one (arc) and I had to refresh my memory.

Wow, even better the second time around. 4.25 - 4.5⭐, but I can't round it up, because I needed that extended epilogue on the planet and the bonus chapters included in the book.
Other than that, it's a fantastic, well written story.

"This human man from the other side of the galaxy, so unlike me in so many ways and yet so perfect. Whatever creator had formed us had taken the lost pieces of my soul and placed them in his, and now that I had found him, I was whole. We were meant for each other."

I simply adore Arcay. What a fantastic character.

I like this group of high Alphas and I'm really excited for their stories to continue. One is apparently asexual/demi, one already mated, one currently imprisoned (the villain whose book I want) and Arcay is blissed in a loving union with Clay.

I can't wait to begin with the next installment and I really hope the author makes this a long series and includes the characters we've met in this book already.
I want to meet Clay and Arcay again and another novella about their life on Adelemar.

I definitely recommend this book.

Strong, very strong 4.25⭐ and I couldn't round it up because of 2 small niggles, but other than that - I can't fucking wait for the next installment!

If you love alien romance books and love great ideas, good world building and strong main characters that go head to head, fighting it out until they fuck each other like crazy, well, you're gonna really like this one.

And if you're someone who likes guys dressed up in body chain jewelry and skanky greek god outfits who are covered in oil, well, you're going to absolutely love it.

🟡 Omegaverse
🟢 Alien/human; Alpha/Omega
🔵 Almost crashing on an alien planet (the whole story is happening on an alien spaceship)
🟣 Size difference (although the human is also over 6ft tall)
🟠 Non-con that stops just before the final act; the alien MMC redeems himself
🔵 Soul bond / almost telepathic connection
🟢 A strong villain that doesn't die in the end, he's terrible and yes, I want his book too
🟡 A fantastic new planet where Omegas are very scarce and aren't really treated well
🌶️ Good smut, the visuals were fantastic, everything well described, I just want more of it!!! t/b (rimming in the bonus scene that should've been in the book)

So basically the human exploration group's spaceship gets sucked into a wormhole and comes into planet Adelemar's orbit. They get a visit from Aldar high Alphas who then take them hostage and back to their spaceship.

Arcay is the Second in command, so right after the most important Alpha on Adelemar. He's tall, regal, insanely attractive with long white hair and loud presence and

"His amber eyes shone as they surveyed the flight deck, taking in the smashed equipment and cowering crew members with an air of distaste; a haughty prince scrutinizing street beggars. The hairs on my arms stood on end, and I shrank back into my chair. For some reason I didn’t want to catch his attention. There was something about him that was utterly terrifying. And also kinda hot."

he takes immediate interest in Clay, the human pilot. Omegas are very rare in this society so when Arcay smells Clay before he even looks at him, he knows Clay is his guy.

That was my Clay.

Clay gets abducted and taken into Arcay's quarters where they're preparing him for the mating/marriage of a sort. Clay is recognized as an Omega but he's not their typical meek, submissive Omega, nor does he look like it. He's muscular, hairy and doesn't take shit from anyone. He doesn't get what's going on at first and he almost gets raped, yeah, because that's the aliens' custom of claiming the Omegas, they have to do whatever Alphas say, but Clay's fighting it off and fighting with Arcay all the time, which is unheard of.

Clay was always dressed in body jewelry, I'm talking chains, harness, fine stones, a little short skirt to almost cover his junk and that's it.

"His body was beyond attractive, and the need to touch it grew in me breathtakingly fast. More toned than Aldarian omegas, who tended to be delicate, Clay had wide shoulders and limbs shaped with muscle. To my surprise, I found that I preferred it."

Arcay is quite the asshole with his muscles, long white hair and self lubing dick, but then Arcay does the unthinkable and doesn't claim Clay by their customs.
Instead, Arcay's somehow changing his perspective on consent and decides to wait for Clay to want to have sex with him. Crazy, right?

Clay is gay, he actually finds Arcay attractive and when they finally get down to it, they're really good together. The edging, the blowjobs, the kissing, the sex - everything's hot and they're slowly falling for each other with the bond taking place when they have sex for the first time. Usually it's the bond first and the getting to know one another later, but these guys are exploring everything together first, a bit awkward and cute, especially since Arcay is a complete virgin. He doesn't really have anyone to have sex with, since there are no Omegas left in his world, so it's his first orgasm, first kiss, first everything although it's weird he didn't have an orgasm yet when he pulls out that pulsating vibrator in the bonus scene, but fine, I'll take it.

The emotional part of their developing relationship is probably one of the best things in this story. Arcay goes from a rigid, almost authoritarian Alpha to a complex individual with profound depth that grows and fights for what he loves. I was definitely surprised because he went against everything that's set in stone in the Aldar society.

Clay never wanted a relationship, but being with Arcay he's realising that he loves Arcay and if with anyone, he wants a relationship with him. He's then taken away and the bond gets cut off, and in that process when he goes back for Arcay, he fights tooth and nail to be with the guy.
Their emotional dynamic was superb, I loved it.

"He dragged himself the rest of the way, arm over arm and I realized nothing in existence could keep us apart. We’d crawl back to each other, drag ourselves on our bellies if we had to, every time."

🔴 What I didn't love were two, maybe three things. Otherwise this would've been a 5* story for me, I'm positive.

One is Clay's work group who were all supposedly close, especially Caldwell, his best friend - who turned out to be a dick who not only not listens to Clay but goes against everything Clay wants when he's taken away. I hope Caldwell redeems himself, I'm almost sure he's going to get his book, but damn, I went from liking to really hating the guy.

Next thing was Aldar fierce Alpha leaders, their whole advanced social system and how it failed completely when Clay and Arcay needed help. And help punishing another Alpha.

I really did like the story, wasn't bored for one bit, but the ending was somewhat swift and skipped over a few things that should've been told in detail. Clay and Arcay's position in the society on the planet, their living situation, I mean it was a bit of an abrupt ending and the epilogue, where I'd expect quite a few more pages after that epic battle near the end, wasn't as satisfying. It was good, but very short.

I'm hoping the author decides to add a novella and tell more of their story, it wasn't enough. A few more chapters would be perfect and I think the author stated they had to cut out that spicy scene or something, so I'm guessing there wasn't even an option to do the proper ending, but that can all be solved with a short novella.

I definitely recommend this book.

Space opera mm retelling of Beauty and the Beast which could have done with a bit more editing.

Whoever reads my reviews might know that I’m not overly fond of the alpha/omega thingy, but it really worked for this book: it’s the story of Clay, who’s the pilot of a small human space ship that gets sucked into a worm hole and catapulted right into the territory of the Aldar, a species of mostly purple humanoid hulks. And Arcay, the “Second” on his spaceship, who immediately identifies Clay as an unclaimed omega and throws him over his shoulder, carries him away and attempts to bond with him.

Yes, the plot is that ridiculous 😅

Nevertheless, it’s fun. And if you don’t mind the bunch of clichés thrown around, you might actually love it (like the evil, slightly unhinged baddie who has an equally cliché lab hidden in the ship), or some really weird plot twists (why is there a jungle on the ship? And why does it house predators who might eat you?).

The plot itself was fairly predictable, but I had fun reading it, especially the second part where Arcay more than redeemed himself. As I mentioned, it’s a space opera. Things don’t all need to make sense for you to enjoy the ride - the emotions are running high, the baddies are badding and the pheromones are pheromoning 🤣).

But the book could have done with a round or two of more editing - not only missing semicolons (one of my pet peeves- sue me…), but some logical fails, too (like saying that the baddie had to step down from his role as a Second, when he was, in fact, the Third).

Still - I’m pretty sure I’ll pick up books from this series (and author) again.

I’ll end it with some of my favorite quotes:

I stared out at the view again. A sea of twinkling stars, nebulae, planets, and moons. It was beautiful. “If an alien ship abducted me, would you try to get me back?” I asked.
He leaned in and took my jaw in his hand, staring into my eyes. “I would not hesitate to destroy everyone that stood in my way.”

(…)

Back then, I’d always felt that if I went fast enough, I could leave everything behind, even myself. But now, as we coasted back towards the ship at a more reasonable speed, I wasn’t so sure I wanted that anymore. If Arcay was so sure he wanted me, all of me, then maybe I was worth keeping. Maybe I didn’t need to go so fast after all.

- Beauty & the Beast… in space!
- alien x human
- omegaverse (but not mpreg)
- mates/bonded
- miscommunication (language/cultural barriers)
- size difference
- touch him and ☠️

CW: attempted SA, fight scenes, blood

While on one of the most boring jobs Clay has ever taken as a pilot, things take an unexpected turn when he and his crew get chewed up and spat out on the other side of the unstable wormhole they’ve been studying.

As if being injured and not knowing where they are or if they will be able to get back home isn’t terrifying enough, their ship gets boarded by an alien race called the Aldar, who have come to investigate their presence in their airspace.

Arcay, a high ranking Aldar on board, scents that Clay is an unclaimed omega the moment he steps onto the ship, and stakes an immediate claim. Needless to say Clay is not very happy with being abducted and taken away from his crew, and Arcay isn’t sure what to do with his unruly omega.

Despite there not being much of an explanation about what omegas really are or what their purpose is in the Aldar society, other than that they bond to alphas, are really rare, and only the strongest alphas have them—I really enjoyed How to Train Your Human Omega.

Arcay and Clay are a mess and a half, and I loved the chemistry and banter between them. Clay was so feisty and constantly fought Arcay at every turn, and I loved that it wasn’t an insta-love connection between the two of them. I even liked all the alien drama and the miscommunication trope in this one too!

4+ stars!

I've already read and enjoyed Arden Long's dubcon Smashwords erotica, so I assumed I'd like this as well.

I loved it! Sometimes my eyes glaze over if I read too many alpha omega books, but this was different and interesting enough to hold its own.

7-foot giant muscular purple dude with flowing white hair? A slick-producing dick? A growly alpha that abducts a human omega and ends up slowly wanting consent, and studies the way humans date. All bark and no bite with that guy. The kissing tutorials.

The plot was good, with enough going on outside the relationship, and even a 75% plot twist. I was surprised by the plot/sex ratio, there were sex scenes but a lot less than I'd expected from an erotica author (in a good way.)

I can't wait to continue with the series and I recommend trying this debut from Arden Fox!

Gorgeous cover too!

Highlights:

• Please, don’t let these be the cannibalistic shape- shifters, I thought. Oh God, or the insectoids that plant eggs in your brain. My head hurts enough as it is without the grub of some six legged alien chewing away inside it. (WTF, get out of my nightmares.)

• “Why are you uncomfortable about your genitals? Are you abnormal?” He eyed me suspiciously, squinting at my crotch through the rippling water.

• “What?” I said, a little too loudly “No.” I tried to bat his gaze away. “It might be hard for you to get your huge head around, but I don’t want some psychotic alien grabbing my junk.”

• Now I was being held prisoner and forcefully washed by a seven-foot aubergine looking creature who wanted to jump my bones. This had to be some kind of weird, kinky nightmare.

• I was being fucking polite and he was still the biggest asshole this side of the universe.

• When was that indigo asshole going to come back and let me down?

• A noise made me look up. On the other side of the pool, a huge black creature was lapping at the water. It looked like a hyena and a crocodile had a disgusting baby, all mouth and jutting teeth, and its long tongue slithered in and out of the water like a snake. I froze. Its mouth was huge. It looked like it could bite me in half without breaking a sweat.

• “You don’t need to be such a rectum, they were just trying to help you.” (The translator they were using kept translating 'asshole' to 'rectum', and yeah I think it's funny.)

• “From what I remember, their species prefers to learn about each other and engage in personal bonding before forming a mating relationship.”
“That makes no sense.”
“I know, they are an odd species.”

• I sighed. Why must humans be so complicated? On my home planet it was so simple; alpha meets omega, alpha claims omega, the soul bond is formed, and they spend the rest of their lives together. That was it. All these extra steps were frustrating.

• “You have horses?” I croaked, still clearing my throat. Arcay stood up, his eyes gleaming. “Of course.”

• “THAT IS NOT a horse.” If a rhino, a panther, a horse, and a dog had a gang-bang, the animal before me would be their monstrous love child.

• When we finally broke apart, gasping, my lips were sore. “That is a kiss?” He asked and raised his fingers to his lips. I nodded. “Yeah,” I said breathlessly. “Pretty much.”“
I like kisses,” he said, and our lips clashed again.

• Underneath his hard exterior, he was sweet—cute even. Like a seven-foot puppy.

• Arcay sat very still, his expression schooled back into its usual neutral mask, but I felt everything going on beneath it. Hurt, guilt, fear, longing. And bigger than anything else, sadness. So much sadness it made my chest ache.

• I still had no idea if I was doing this kissing exercise correctly, but he reacted well when I pushed my tongue inside him, shuddering under my lips.

What absolute fun!!

WHAT I LIKED
- Clay making Arcay work for it.

- Background sci-fi elements. Not too overwhelming but still very coherent and intriguing.

WHAT I DISLIKED
- Third act miscommunication. It takes a lot to make me enjoy a third act breakup/miscommunication so it’s no surprise I disliked it in this even though I enjoyed the rest of the book.

Overall, I enjoyed this and will definitely be checking out book 2 when it drops.

What a lovely book!
"How to Train Your Human Omega" is Arden Fox's debut, and what a debut.
I absolutely adored this alien-packed, chemestry-fueled romance, from start to finish. It's entertating and fairly bonkers at times, steamy and light-hearted and sweet, but it also manages to fool you into thinking it's all fun and games, and then it delivers a gut-punch, or twenty, and leaves you clutching your heart because of The Feels™.

I loved Clay and Arcay as protagonists so much! Both of them are oblivious, himbo fools, they literally share one braincell, and I absolutely loved it for them. Talk about a match made in heaven eh? Jokes aside, they're also well-developed characters, with flaws and fears and all the pesky emotions that make them both wholly relatable.
Both of them are ridiculously stubborn, but while Clay lashes out in anger and then runs, Arcay's the master truth-omitter. Like I said, a match made in heaven; not only do they both make mistakes, but they also learn from them. Seeing Arcay change his behaviour, by understanding human traditions and slowly learning that Clay's no helpless damsel, was everything; and seeing Clay slowly learning to trust Arcay, by curbing his automatic flight-or-fight, no-commitments, MO, was everything too.
I loved their character development, and I loved their romance. It's packed with chemistry from the start, and it's also tinged with a delicious non-con, slightly Stockholm Syndrome-ish (or sugar baby-ish? LOL) vibe, and their relationship absolutely flourishes throughout the entire novel. I love watching a relationship tinged with animosity and misunderstandings bloom through trust and care, and this one was no exception. I never wanted to leave this novel.

The writing was fabulous: witty, lovely and it flowed like a dream. I loved the world-building, but I'm sooooo hoping we will have a better understanding of it in the next novel. The Aldar society is fascinating and intriguing, and I also really hope we'll get a bit more omegaverse aspects in the next one.
I'm so looking forward to it!

TWs/CWs: attempted rape (on page, not between MCs), kidnapping, injury, vague suicide ideation.

Thank you GRR and the author for the ARC. This is my honest opinion.

I’m a big fan of Arden’s spicy dubcon shorts - this is an author who can write spice! 🥵 I really loved the build up and push/pull in the first half of this book. It’s not a fast burn, these boys have to work for their connection.

It fell apart for me in the second half though. I felt like I was getting whiplash from the constant changing emotions, the drama/angst, issues that didn’t fully get resolved, and then the somewhat abrupt ending. Like another review said, I wish there had been another epilogue set further out because we didn’t really see much of Clay and Arcay happily together.

Despite the romance not being fully believable for me and this lacking some typical OV notes (no knots or heat/rut) the writing is solid and I could see this being a good way to try out Omegaverse for those who are maybe intimidated by the genre.

Thanks to the author for the ARC - this is my honest opinion.

✨ARC REVIEW ✨

I'm a sucker for alien romances and this one was a fun one. It had strong The Beauty and The Beast vibes, and I was all for it. Our human MC Clay is whisked away from his job as pilot by a hunky strong alien, Arcay, who comes from a planet with a lot of alphas a very few omegas. When Arcay realises Clay is an omega, he all but claims him forever. As soon as Clay realises what's going on, shenanigans ensue. But all's well that ends well, and they get their HEA.

Thanks to GRR and the author for the ARC.

I'd argue that miscommunication is only fun in human x alien romances.

Because tell me why they're offering to bathe him but phrasing it as 'we need to remove your layers therefore follow us to the room with the hot fluid' and telling him he's their boss' 'mate' but he's hearing 'meat' so he thinks they're trying to cook him for his boss to eat💀

Plus, I'll always have a soft spot for omegaverse so 🥰

But this book edged me.

I liked the idea, I liked the MCs and still something about it didn't quite click.

Starting with lots of side eye at Jarcen(?) being the alien leader because let me tell you that man knows fuck all about leading, or what his senior officers are up to, OR what's on his ship, OR how to punish someone that needs punishing.

And there's conveniently no one around when huge fights that should objectively be very loud are going on, so a lot of things just happen uninterrupted.

Idk why the main villain is more concerned with thinking Arcay doesn't deserve an omega when it's really their leader that doesn't deserve anyone to follow him.

It's honestly disturbing how blindly loyal Arcay is to the guy.

On to the MCs. Great characters individually, their interactions are funny and Arcay especially is an undercover softie but the fated mate business did a LOT of heavy lifting when it came to the relationship.

Which makes sense for Arcay. He's grown up knowing of this stuff, yearning for it et cetera.

I hoped that Clay would end up falling in love with him naturally thus having them meet in the middle but at the end, it really seems like the soul bound carried a lot of sway for Clay making the choices he did.

Because I'm not buying that commitment-phobe Clay was suddenly emotionally ready to make a lifetime commitment to a purple guy he'd known a few days.

But I DID love all the reckless, hurtful things he said to him during the fight prior to this. Seemed very authentic.

Shouting at that man that you only BEGGED him to bond because you were so horny you'd do anything for it and that he can't hold you to any confessions of feelings because any feelings resulting from such a situation could only be Stockholm Syndrome at best?

💀Diabolical.

I approve.

When Clay and his crew fly too close to an unstable wormhole, they embark on an adventure that results in Clay's capture by an alien race named the Aldar. Clay is claimed by Arcay, a high ranking Aldar who immediately spots that Clay is an unclaimed omega. Arcay feels instant attraction to Clay, but Clay is a bit more concerned with being abducted away from everything he knows, and his anger at being told he is going to be Arcay's mate.

A large part of How to Train Your Human Omega details Clay and Arcay getting to know each other and learning to understand the differences between their cultures. What makes Clay an omega and what does it mean? I'm not sure we get an answer to that, other than that their hormones are compatible and they can form a soul bond. There's a lot of humour, some very entertaining bickering, fun alien technology and cute moments. The world building was fun-I really liked the descriptions of the Aldar ship and the mix of advanced technology with throwback views on the roles of alpha, beta and omega within the Aldar society. I look forward to reading more from Arden Fox.

Did anyone else get major Beauty and the Beast vibes? I loved the similarities between the plots... It was fun to find little easter eggs throughout the book.

I had such a blast reading this book (and rereading it 🩷), I love some good alien romance especially when there is a human omega involved and well Clay didn’t disappoint at all !!!!

Clay was just doing his job (pilot) and was part of a boring mission, he didn’t expect his ship to be sucked into a black hole and then boarded by a gigantic purple alien race. But when Clay is kidnapped by one of them on the basis that he is an omega - whatever that can be, it is a real shock, he doesn’t understand the situation but one thing is sure he’s ready to fight.
Arcay is thrilled, he finally found his omega even if he is human there are just so few on his planet so he cannot believe his chance and is excited to be able to claim and be bound with him for eternity. However, what Arcay didn’t expect is for Clay to fight him about everything, he isn’t the docile image he should be, what a shock !! Arcay finds it arousing and, hot but at the same time, a real pain as constant rejection is thrown at him.
While Clay and Arcay try to come to an understanding, some dark things lurk in the dark.

Soooo if you like tall, hot alien clashing with his human omega, please just read this book 😍 I truly loved it, enjoyed it and I’m pretty excited to see what is coming next.

I cannot bring myself to weight it at 3 because the climax made me so unreasonably angry that it ruined the book and the entire relationship for me.

is not romantic, it's just fucked. I'm sure many will enjoy or only be mildly frustrated by this, but is one of my personal pet peeves, and I won't forgive it.

Also: too many incomplete plot threads.

I'll consider reading the sequel because I liked the style and enjoyed most of the book, but only after others have read it and spoiled the climax for me, I'm sure as shit not reading this plot again.

Mental note...when I'm happy with my narrative. Not only have Beta Readers. Get Diversity Readers and a good editor. An editor that not just checks punctuation. One that ensures I'm using the correct word. Also keeping my characters position in their world, straight. It's confusing for a reader not use to children. Learning to read and their interesting spelling choices. Found just two instances of use of the word close to sock for an male appendage. Also the Third in line received an interesting award, not the second in line

Clay & Arcay
Rating: 3.5 ⭐

- A/B/O
- Omegaverse (No MPREG)
- First Times
- Sci-fi
- Alien/Human
- Soul Bonded Mates

This story had some strong Beauty and the Beast vibes to it. It was a fun and entertaining read with humor, smut and romance that has to develop. The plotline of this story isn't anything new and is similar to "The Fating" and "The Alien's Kidnapped Omega" but I still enjoyed this book by itself.

Clay is afraid of commitment while Arcay has waited his whole life to find an Omega mate. Clay and his team are piloting a ship for a research team that is studying the wormhole anomaly. Close to the end of their mission, they get sucked into the wormhole and dropped into Aldar territory, now they're considered as a trespassing threat. The second in command, Arcay gets a whiff of Clay and recognizes him as an omega. Omegas are hard to find and Alphas of Aldar will fight to claim one. With Arcay being a high-ranking Aldar, he tells the first in command that he is to claim Clay and proceeds to basically kidnap Clay to bring him back and claim him. Well, humans don't operate like Aldar omegas so instead of being submissive and docile wanting to be claimed, Clay fights and tries to run away at any opportunity that presents itself. Arcay is utterly confused as to why Clay is being so difficult and nothing is going as he was told it would when he found an omega. Until Clay is claimed, he is in danger from any unmated Alphas who catch his scent and want to mate with him, they won’t ask for permission since it’s not their way. Watching these two try to learn and understand each other was a great development, in turn they both changed for the better. Arcay was the sweetest freaking thing once he decided he was going to woo Clay like the humans do. He was also fiercely protective of Clay, having to fight for their lives more than once.
“I am attempting to perform ‘dating’ with you, but our records do not go into detail about the specifics.”

The larger plotlines on why omegas are no longer found, the society and politics within the ship was well constructed in the storyline. All the mess that Ulgar pulled and planned to do was just horrible. I wish the author would have given us the punishment he will receive for his actions or something because they just left it up in the air. I wanted that bow tied, if nothing else! There is a lot that happens in this book but most of it is not wrapped or given answers, just introduced. I felt like I was left with the couple in more of a HFN state a month after everything that happened, instead of a HEA. Clay had just fully excepted what they were to each other and then this just ends. I wish there was maybe a second epilogue to see this couple in the future. I would've ranked this book higher if I didn't feel so dang lost and cheated at the end.

Trigger warnings: Bloody fight scenes (not between MCs); Attempted SA; Kidnapping; Imprisonment

I received a free copy of this book via GRR and am voluntarily leaving a review.

2.5 stars realistically

This book was way longer than it needed to be. There wasn't much plot to be had if i am being honest. It was just a lot of the same thing happening over and over again. A lot of internal monologue that got super boring after a while. The character's personalities literally switched to the complete opposite of who the reader was introduced to at the beginning of the book. They were practically unrecognizable by the time the book was finished. It made me really mad, they were both really strong characters in the first few chapters, and it should have made for a great push and pull with tension through out the book. But thats not what happened, it was actually the complete opposite. Which sucked for me.
there was a lot of potential here, but it fell short, and it felt under developed throughout.

I am a big fan of Arden's short stories under their other pen name, so when I heard they were debuting a gay sci-fi novel under Arden Fox, you know I was sat and ready. And of course I devoured this in one night, utterly glued to my Kindle like it was my only source of air.

This is Arden’s first full-length release, and they did not come to play. We’re given plot, angst, suspense, HOT alien sex, and page-turning drama on drama.

Human space pilot Clay has found himself in a bit of a situation. Some spacecraft wrong turns, a wormhole, and an alien invasion put him in the presence of Arcay, the second-in-command alpha of the Aldar species. When Clay and Arcay meet, some…one-sided?? sparks begin to fly as Arcay realizes Clay is actually an omega, and ~unclaimed~, but not for long ;).
Arcay kidnaps Clay, but he soon realizes that this is not going to be the simple conquest he envisioned, and Clay is basically a stubborn human brat who spits attitude at every turn and wants nothing to do with the giant purple alpha. Unfortunately for Clay, pheromones are also at play here, and he eventually finds himself unable to resist his possessive captor. Will Arcay finally lay claim to his omega and find his mate?

I read a lot of books with extremely toxic relationship dynamics, and usually it requires a heavy suspension of disbelief for me to understand how the f these characters would ever actually see past their relational shortcomings. So it was quite fresh for me to read a book where some of these things can actually be contextually explained within the universe. Arcay doesn't even really see what he's done as kidnapping at the beginning of the book. In his culture, omegas seem to be more like property, so he doesn't think he's doing anything wrong at the time. But sweet mouthy Clay isn't the type to let shit slide. It actually ended up being really cute and sweet to see these two reconcile their interspecies differences, and seeing Arcay try to educate himself on human "dating" lol. He's just a purple dude trying his best!

In addition to the romance, we are also privy to a new world of alien politics, a/b/o dynamics, and plenty of nefarious villain activities. I am really excited to see what comes next in this series, and I implore you to snag a copy of this when it comes out so you can fall in love with these precious baby idiots.

I am now sailing into my sci-fi era, au revoir!

I loved this way more than I expected too. The name makes it sound like alien omega corn but it was def not that. It had a couple good spicy scenes but the book centers around Clay and Arcay’s relationship way more than the spice. Different languages. Different cultures. The two of them trying to find some common ground and make the best out of a bad situation. I mean Clay was abducted by Arcay so it definitely starts them off on rocky ground. The books was low angst with a simple but good plot and just enough spice. All around entertaining nDef recommend. Can’t wait for the next book.

4.25 stars. Give me an alien-learning-human-customs any day of the week and I will be a happy reader. So cute and charming while the alien tries to woo the human, loved it. The betas and the speech translations were a hoot.

We get all the classics, learning to communicate, some cultural misunderstandings, jealousy over an exotic mate, fighting for the right to have the mate and some push-pull over bonding. Mild action, medium spice, mild angst, low drama.

Alien, human, space travel, alpha/omega, m/m, HEA.

The gaping plot holes are huge like the wormhole which sucked Clay to the Aldors. The plot is as thin as air in space.
It was also boring. Character thoughts and actions were circular and kept rehashing same/same over and over.

Eh...

This was a hard read.

Not because it was written badly, cause it was written great, it was because of the mc. I really did not like the human, Clay.

And once that happens, you can't be happy at the hea.

This is the first book I read by this author and let me tell you that I had a blast reading it. I loved it from beginning to end and I was actually sad when I finished it.
Clay is a spaceship pilot that happens to be on a mission he was hired for, far away into space. His aircraft gets sucked into a black hole and enters into the airspace of an alien planet. Arcay is one of the aliens that board Clay's ship, he realises as soon as he lays his eyes on the human that he's an omega and claims him. That's when the fun starts, well, fun for me as a reader, Clay didn't find it that entertaining.
I absolutely loved this book, it was exactly what I needed at that time and I enjoyed it immensely. Clay was funny, endearing and a rebel. He kept putting Arcay in his place and the alien felt frustrated and lost as to what to do with his human. They were actually great together, even though their start was very rough.
I liked the world-building very much, also the customs and traditions of the aliens. I also loved the communication problems the MCs encountered, and that sexual tension between the two was great because it was part of their animosity. Actually, Arcay just wanted to bond with his human, but Clay was stubborn and didn't bend to the rules that omegas were supposed to follow.
This book was mostly a romance novel, but there was sooooo much action that it got me hooked from the start. There were always things happening, not only between the MCs but also regarding other secondary characters. I had such a wonderful time reading this book and I laughed so much.
This novel was a delight to read, one of my favourite stories so far this year and I can't wait for the next one in the series. I'm sure I'll enjoy it too.

A better title for this would be "how to tame your alien alpha abductor" - and that is a compliment, because that was the fun part. The alien abduction dynamics, while campy enough to be fun, were just not clicking (and bless his heart, the alien abductor really is not clever or good at his job). There is a lot of fun with the alien translation devices, priceless fun, I would read those scenes again.

But the plot, and silly misunderstandings, and the human abducted MC acting all feisty heroine of a old style bodice ripper (actually this is an old style bodice ripper), meh...

And weirdly the antagonist was obviously evil in obviously evil way, so that there was a plot, but he was the only character on this book with any kind of scientific curiosity or who was worried about there not being enough omegas...
