Barinov Bratva #2

Mensonges sournois

Rate this book

This was an annoying filler book. The story didn't really progress. The same old secrets are still just stretched out. Plus the ridiculous waffling Paige does has gone beyond annoying and veered into the 'I almost DNFed this and I don't know if I'll read book 3' area. Not to mention, the actions taken by so many of the characters are just beyond plausibility. The final nail in the coffin....Paige has been whining for 2 books about how all she wants in Andrei to love her, that it's all she needs to be happy and put up with this bratva life, and woe is her he never will. AND yet he finally tells her he loves her and we get no reaction from Paige. Not a blip or inner monologue. It's like it didn't even happen. I just can't anymore. Too stupid.

Deceitful Lies by Brook Wilder (Barinov Bratva Book 2)

⭐️⭐️.5
🌶️🌶️

I feel like readers who complete this novel have a torture kink—because genuinely why was Paige so unnecessarily stubborn? And why did we stick around for it?

Deceitful Lies begins right where we left off, Paige Geraldnova has been kidnapped by Andrei’s jealous ex and Andrei Vasilyevich is left reeling with the many secrets now uncovered by the once innocent Reyes’ family. Moreover, Igor Karamazov continues to retaliate and threaten the lives of the Barinov family. With numerous kidnapping attempts and a conniving cousin—the second instalment is as turbulent as the previous novel.

I desired for a more contemporary approach to the second instalment. The first novel was filled with sonnet-like dialogue and articulation written poetically that it was difficult for the reader to empathise with the characters as human beings. Unfortunately, this writing style continues for this book and it did build a wall between the audience and the characters. Every reader’s desire is to be emotionally connected and enthralled by a book, and when the pen of an author is too strong, it can mitigate that.

Contrary to the first instalment, this novel had a lot more filler information and waffling. Further, it questioned if there was even a plot at all. Whilst I understand it may have been intended to keep readers on their toes. As an audience, it genuinely felt like we were being thrown the same information over, and over again—with no new discoveries to be entertained by. Emma’s relentless annoyance by Paige, a new love interest amongst the Bratva soldiers, Talia’s crazy antics, and the secrets by Andrei’s mother and father-in-law, all overwhelmed the entire novelty of this mafia romance.

Overall, the plot seemed very unfocused. Characters continued to make choices that were unfounded, and the audience is not provided a reason behind why Paige is adamant in leaving the Barinov estate? Why she continues to hold on hope for her father? It was a very confusing experience as a reader and did not facilitate any empathy for the plot at all. Not a single character evoked relatability or enjoyment within me, each personality exhibited manipulation, gaslighting and a neglect to the seriousness of the war (with exception to Andrei).

‘Deceitful Lies’ truly adhered to its name but not in the greatest ways. Whilst the plot is intriguing at face value, the overwhelming amount of manipulation and lies was too much to digest in such a short form. Especially, when it is not articulated at pace that is ‘readable’. I desired for patience within this novel, a new contemporary take. Instead, characters were purely evil, taking chances on other’s lives and it truly was just a piss-take at the end. Unfortunately, after the extreme turbulence of this novel, I cannot stomach the third instalment.

This book had me rolling my eyes a lot. Between the whining and flip flopping on whether she is going to run or stay, Paige is driving me crazy. At this point in the book Andrei should tell her to find the door and not let it hit her in the ass on the way out. Good grief, we are done with the second book now and she's still crying about the same crap as in the first book. I've gotten this far might as well see if she can find her big girl panties and put them on in the third book. At this point I'm team Andrei all the way!!

The first book set a decent foundation here with the storyline and characters laid out for us. This book had a decent beginning/ending. The middle was often redundant with the MFC having the same inner-conflict over and over. The cliffhanger here was a bit stronger than the first book.
Again, numerous wording errors and contradictions throughout that made some parts of the story difficult to follow.

Could not finish. Stopped at 40%

It’s the back and forth…two whole dang books of it. I love him but I can’t. I love her but I can’t. I need to stay me and stick to my principles but I can’t. I need to be cruel to make a point and gain respect but I can’t. Oh. My. God. On and on.

Not for me. Just…not for me.

Bratva Book

I honestly got to a point when I thought FFS Paige either STFU and stay or pack your bags and go and to be fair if she left or was killed off I wouldn’t have been sad as she is so annoying.
I know irritating characters can annoy me but it’s like the author wrote Paige to be hated if I’m being honest.
We know in book one she was kidnapped and forced to marry Andrei so her back and forth really should have been resolved by book two.
This author dragged out this story and in my opinion it could have been finished in one book / two at a push as the repetition of her internal thoughts had me skipping when she was talking about leaving or staying repeatedly, her sister was a much better character.
If I’m being honest I have failed to see character growth for Paige she just seems like a whiney indecisive brat from book one, at least Andrei actually has some change he let’s go of his cold heart and the cold calculating man his father made him.
He relinquished some of his day to day work to Dimitri & Natasha so he could be with Paige more, he would never have done that as the man we met in book one.
Paige constantly is bitching about him not telling her the truth when she knows who her Dad was and what he did yet failed to tell Andrei so how can she moan he is keeping secrets when she is doing it herself.
Oh and even though she was being sick has this author never heard of a pregnancy test??
All the gifts bought and money spent for a baby shower just from her vomiting when no doctor or test has even proven she is pregnant that was just weird as even people trying to get pregnant take a test or see a doctor.
The author has tried to fill the book out with sex scenes that to be fair weren’t needed in some places, I just can’t seem to get in to this book and could Paige be anymore annoying.
She runs away from him and demands to know why she is with him and then smiles as he lifts her in to the back seat of the rover…. Seriously 🤬 I just can’t deal with this woman she is awful.
She try’s to run outside at the hotel even after Andrei told her it was a trap and then screams giving their position away how the author thought Paige would be likeable by making her so dumb is beyond me.
The ending was a surprise but not the mystery lover of Eva I guessed him in book one but what Andrei did was a surprise and how is Sonya that close to Talia to know where to run to??

Whoa! Book 1 really started off with a BANG! And ended with a cliffhanger that left so many questions. Book 2 picked up immediately from book 1.
Andrei is desperate to find Paige. We finally get some answers surrounding who the “thief” is, the connection Paige plays, and who Sonya’s father is.
But as much as I liked Paige in book 1, I didn’t like her in book 2. She got on my nerves with her back and forth, she was bossy and interfered with Emma too much. She was her sister, not her mother. And quite frankly I found Emma was smarter than Paige. Her constant meddling got irritating. So did her second guessing Andrei and constantly questioning wether he’d be a good father. They both were frustrating at times with how they each kept secrets, which happened to be pertaining to the same situation. If they both were just honest with themselves and each other some problems may have been prevented- especially if Paige was honest with Andrei.
This book, like the first was action packed, and again everything comes to a huge head at the end that leaves us with another cliffhanger- and this one is jaw dropping! We see Talia might have more people on her side than we thought- especially one certain person who I definitely didn’t expect. I’m crossing my fingers that Paige comes to her senses sooner rather than later and realizes she’s better and safer with Andrei than she would be if she ran.

This one is worse than the first. Aside from the grammatical errors, and entire words missing at some points, I’m appalled by the story line.

This book has the two main characters knowing their lives are in danger every time they leave the house, yet they continue leaving and shit keeps happening.

80 percent of the book is dumb paige going back and forth. “I am his wife. Why doesn’t he love me? I will never leave him. I must leave him. I can’t be here. I’m not meant for this world. I love him, he bought me diamonds. This is where I belong. I’m pregnant, I need to protect my baby. I should go.”

Uh, okay?

A few things to point out… lots of inconsistencies.

For example in one sex scene, Paige is talking about his eyes and how he’s looking at her… but he’s hitting it from behind so how exactly can she see his eyes?

Or when he pushes her down into the mattress, then afterwards she said she collapsed. How can you collapse if you’re already face down in the mattress?

How about when she has a crying fit on the bathroom floor and growls like a rabid dog?

At this point, I have no doubt Andrei will tank his fathers mafia. He really is stupid… and Paige is exceedingly stupid. She reminds us constantly how she’s his wife. Girl, you married him in the first book. We know.

Points and TALIA 🙄

1. Main man weak ,letting others harm family and wife with no retaliation at all.
2. His mom ...omg she isn't that naive to act like she never wanted him to hurt and would ever try to kill him ..but she did with her actions of being with his sworn enemy that has been trying to take him out the entire Time....moms wide eyes like no ,no it was just to get you to stop.. While her boyfriend mob man sent men with guns and bullets that were sprayed all over where you are ,opps.
3.He can't love you because makes him weak...thought process back and forth .
4. Her same . I love you but can't . Gonna leave him put oh wait shinnies he gives me and romances me and oh I'm back in love ...again thought process over and over.
5.his spoiled sister that flips a 180 on personality at the end . He killed my parents that hateful man ,not waiting to see what has happened for real ,push pregnant sister in law down ...dont care . Run to TALIA. 🙄
6. Talia ........we all know she is TSTFL. Yes yes we do .She'd be sleeping with fishes a long time ago and we know it .
There was more that annoyed me but ill stop there . Not sure if I want to dive into third book and more or not ,kinda got eye cross on this .

I’ve had enough—SPOILER ALERTS

I started with the first book and moved on to the second thinking it would get better but not. Paige is a one dimensional character that I thought you would see growth and progress but it is the same back and forth, secrets held, not speaking her mind or revealing key info and she becomes too seem so self absorbed that it turns into making her come off as selfish. She’s pregnant and there’s no talk of her even being seen by a doctor yet and we are getting into the third book. There’s so many moving parts that are trying to lead up to suspense but fails on all cylinders. Paige has become accustomed to the glitz and glam of her title and everything and everyone has fallen by the wayside. She is an imposter attempting to hide her vulnerability and weaknesses but is failing. Paige wanted to leave but has not, she needs to be focused on finding her moms finding spot where the info of the money is but she has not, her sister is missing and she needs to focus on that but is sitting in her ivory tower, she needs to get a hold of and speak to her cousin cop but hasn’t and no one has come up with a solid game plan and executed yet. Andrei being in the life seems to always fall short too like this series.

Comical

Repetitive sex occurs out of the blue just to prolong and extend the convoluted mess of a story. Paige is the best airhead, most confused , irrational , flaky female I have ever encountered in any book. Author seems to forget Paige is pregnant. She drinks coffee every day but brutal acts make her throw up. The sight of blood makes her throw up but not a severed finger. She holds severed finger , removes ring and puts it on without throwing up. She sees Victor bloody and cleans blood off her husband without getting sick. Paige has learned to be cruel after spending time with Talia. The men in the Barinov bratva are inept. Could not find the nose on their face or is this more filler material? I am not gullible so the entire scenario is a convoluted comedy of errors with a cast of bumbling men and simple minded women playing dress up. Another kidnapping and another cliffhanger after a questionable killing.

Disappointed

After reading the first book, I was excited to get ahold of book two. Now I'm not so sure I want to read the 3rd.

I struggled through the continuation of Paige and Andrei's story due to 4 things.
1) Paige literally couldn't make up her mind if she wanted to change to fit into the Bratva world or stay her meekly self. Gave me bipolar vibes.
2) Paige also repeatedly was hypocritical when it came to Emma and what she was doing when she herself was doing the same exact thing.
3) Andrei annoyed the crap out of me in this book. He was wishy, washy, and overall fell flat as a character. He had no depth, and I just couldn't get on board with it.
4) The twist at the end wasn't truly a twist when it was so predictable from the beginning.
Also, when it comes to Talia and her character, she's the typical. I want what I can't have and will use my body to get it.

I was really hoping this would pull together from the first books dilemmas of this whole he kidnapped me but now I have feelings for Andrei/Paige. It did not. Instead, the plot didn't make much progress as far as the story goes and you get a lot of hot and cold between the main characters. Paige is annoying because she wants Andrei to confide in her and love her when half the time she's berating him to do things like a man and refusing to tell him anything about her problems when he does indeed have this special batch of skills to help her resolve them. The whole book is just one giant miscommunication trope. I almost dnf'd it multiple times but I really wanted to see the resolution between the two mains. I won't be reading the next one.

Deceitful Lies (Barinov Bratva book 2) by Brook Wilder is a 4 ⭐️ read.
Paige is in love with her husband, the man who kidnapped and forced her into marriage she’s also pregnant, as much as she wants his love she knows it’s no possible and is still trying to find a way to get away but now her whole family are a part of things and she doesn’t know what to do.
Andrei loves his wife, she was never meant to be a part of his life only a means to an end but things have changed. His enemies are coming from all directions and he must put out a show of strength but can he really keep his new family safe?
I’m really enjoying this series, I would recommend it.

Overall I liked the book. Not the best written but plenty going on all the time. Paige as the main female character is really starting to bug me though. She loves Andrei and has decided not to run away, then she needs to run away because of the baby, then she knows she can never leave him, now she knows she has to leave him ... I honestly find her exhausting!
That ending threw me though, never saw any of that coming. Well the Igor thing did cross my mind but the fallout from it... woah! And how many people are involved in this? I am definitely going to read book 3 because even though Paige is a little irritating with her thought processes I do need to know how it ends!

Love Hate, Want

I was really into this second book. Love hate relationship. She lives him in spite of everything, states she can't live without when things go sideways. She wants him to say he loves her finnally, and yet she plans on leaving anyway. She just can't stay, even though she knows she will always be hunted, including her child. Yet she plans on leaving but still sleeps with him.... I think maybe book three will be more of the same. I love him, I don't love him, I want to stay, but I can't. Need more depth to the story and not just I can't have what I want a romantic lifestyle with 2 kids a dog, grand love and a husband in the suburbs. This is the Bravtva

Deceitful Lies

Okay so this series started out with a lot of potential, I thought this second book was going to fill in more blanks and get to the bottom line. Obviously it dragged out and then I felt like the author must have been on a deadline for the book release because the end was so rushed! So many mistakes that it was hard to follow. At this point I’m loosing my faith in both MCs because they haven’t gotten anywhere. Also the steamy scenes were lame. Of course I’m going to read the last book in the series because I need some closure, but I feel like the author could have put more important details in the book, empathetic then feelings and nonsense.

I know I gave the first one 4 stars, but then it got weird.
I didn't like the caracters in this book, their dynamics didn't make any sense, like they would be mad at each other for something serious and in the next chapacter they would be fine, without the issue being resolved.
And more importantly, the MFC development was absurd. I mean, she suddendly became somewhat ruthless just because she spent a few days with the villan... what?
There are a lot of other problems with this book, but I won't even spend my energy listing them.
Anyway, I don't think I'll be reading another book by this author, since I also didn't vibe with her other series.

Wow, this story certainly got intense in book 2! Paige and Andrei are still dancing around each other but at least Paige was a little more consistent through this one. She still ran a little hot and cold but it wasn’t as bad as the first book. I guess because she is getting used to life at the mansion.

I really liked the crazy twists that were throughout the story. It kept my attention and had me up late into the night reading.

I can't wait to see how this story finishes out because after that explosive ending I need all the answers!

Interesting

A good Bratva read this is the second book in Barinov Bratva series and things get more complicated all the time. Andrei is the Pakhan Paige is the woman he forced to be his wife both have secrets neither will admit that a marriage that started out fake has become real. Her father has kept much from Paige and her little sister Emma but the truth is slowly coming out. Andrei's family also has secrets when they come out they end in tradegy. We are left with a cliff hanger when Emma is kidnapped can't wait to read the next book.

This author made both Andrei and Paige weak clueless idiots in order to keep the story going.

This is such a well written engaging story until Talia shows up and shows the reader that Andrei is powerless and weak.

Let's not even discuss Paige with her strange thoughts and behavior. Leaving to go where exactly at least the two clueless people have an army.

Her alone and with a baby. She is brainless. They are irking me at this point I thought book 2 was the end.

If Paige was annoying in her equivocations in book 1, I’d like to scratch her eyes out here.
I love him; he doesn’t love me. I want to leave; oh, but he bought me diamonds. I hate him; goodness the sex is good.
Andrei is not a lot better. Paige is making him weak. In front of his men and in front of the other Bratva’s.
But the overall story is complicated and interesting. Kenny the cop? Eva both Andrei’s and Sonia’s mother?
Who is the snitch inside Andrei’s house?
What ultimately has Paige’s father unleashed?
So, despite my loathing for Paige, onto the conclusion of this trilogy.

Lies,Lies,Lies

This book was a good read but a bit slow start. The first book was better and by far my favorite.

Paige and Andrei continue to dance around each other in the book. More secrets and lies continue to be exposed. When they finally come around to each other just to fall apart again. The book ends with a huge cliffhanger that has me a bit troubled but am anxious to read the last and final book and see how everything will come together and how it will all end.

Book one was good however the second was painful to read.
I skim read the last 40% of the book.
Paige character done nothing but moan and it was like the author couldn’t decide if she wanted her to turn cold or if she wanted her to stay innocent.
For 2 books she moaned about wanting Andrie to declare his love for her and she would be happy and when he does it we get zero reaction!

Both characters moaned about wanting to be in control and secrets.

I won’t be reading the 3rd book.

This book almost ended in the DNFed shelf. It was getting on my nerves. The plot did not progress. The main character is a flake. I am team Andrei, but I just can't believe he put up with some of the stupid stuff. I mean, if you're gonna be alpha, then be alpha! Put your foot down! When he did, everybody is all crying. But more importantly...DON'T FLUFF ME! This book felt like a bunch of fluff to make it a story or to drag it out. I am going to need a break before reading book 3.

The first book was good but they def dropped the ball with this one. Like every other chapter they said the same thing to each other about having no trust and being in a fake relationship it got lowkey annoying! Like we all know u love each other get over it! Emma getting kidnapped and Kenny and Talia working together was drama! THEN to finish it off Sonya is Igor’s daughter and Andrei killed his mother and Igor! Paige is not going to forgive him!

Andrei and Paige’s story continues and they continue to battle what their true hearts desire but also at the sake of keeping face due to their stance in the Bratva. Risks are taken and the more it continues the more dangerous things get- even with their own hearts. Facts come to light in book 2, causing Andrei to do something he can never come back from- and his relationship and baby are all at risk. The book was fabulously written and keep me engaged from page 1.
