Colleen Houck just released her secret project: a prequel novella about Yesubai! How awesome is that?

Love her stories and I'm especially excited for this.

Update on Monday, April 14, 2014:

GASP! And that cover! Look at that cover!

I love it.

Second update on Thursday, April 17, 2014:

It has just been announced that Tiger's Promise will now be available in print!! Good job, Tigers fans, for reaching out with your (hopefully polite) requests to make Tiger's Promise a physical book! Let's celebrate t

This book destroyed me! It was just the right combination of factors to rip my heart out.

First, it heavily featured Kishan, the book boyfriend love of my life. Secondly, it was from the POV of a woman who loved him. When she met Ren and compared him to Kishan, she actually found him wanting. When she looked in Kishan's eyes she saw the warm sun and kindness, not a man who always fell short, like Kelsey did. And thirdly, the real cl

After reading: I had been contacted by Emily Ross to get a copy of this via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

3.5 stars.

As you should already know from the blurb, this is the story of Yesubai. Though I did know this, I don't know why my genius mind didn't figure that this would be in her POV. I got kind of startled at that since Yesubai, before this book, had always been a background character, the girl whose sacrifice started it all.

Do not get me wrong though, I still am mad at Kishan
Revised Review:
Tiger’s Promise is thrilling, enchanting, beautiful and emotional. Before Kelsey Hayes there was another girl who played an important role that changed the lives of two princes. Yesubai, trapped under the rule of her abusive and powerful father Lokesh, she struggles to keep her own magical powers hidden while avoiding his wrath. When Lokesh plans to use Yesubai in plot against a neighboring kingdom to destroy the royal family and power for himself, she is unable to disobey him. As

Where do I even begin with this? I mean, I guess it was slightly better than Tiger's Curse, but still...

Well, I guess I'll start with the good.

First of all, Yesubai was slightly less useless than Kelsey. She was very much under her father's thumb, but she at least tried to rebel in any small way.

Next...there is no next. That was all that was good about this. On to the bad!

I finally, FINALLY read this novella! I adored Colleen's original series The Tiger Saga, so why the heck did it take me so dang long to read this prequel novella? I honestly really enjoyed this novella, and although it is short it definitely felt whole as a story.

Yesubai was interesting heroine that was briefly mentioned in The Tiger Saga, who finally got her origin story in this novella. So, nothing was a surprise with how this novella ended.

I definitely thought she grew as a character and bec

I'm bummed that Tiger's Promise was only a novella; I could have read a whole book about Yesubai! I adored Yesubai's story. It was inspiring, but tragic. There was a constant feeling of dread as I was reading the book (like "I think something bad is going to happen") and that really kept me hooked! It also made me sad though because I loved Yesubai and Kishan together and I so desperately wanted things to work out for them.

I will admit, Yesubai and Ki
This was a nice short story that gave readers insight into Yesubai's character. I also enjoyed reading about Ren and Kishan again as well about learning more about their mother. The readers also get to see just how evil Lokesh is with regards to his own daughter. In the version that I have readers also get a bonus chapter in the POV of Yesubai's mother, Yuvakshi. There is also a bonus chapter in Ren's POV of when he met Yesubai. There is ALSO a sneak peek chapter from Tiger's Dream which I am (i ...more

Tiger's Promise is a short novella told in the viewpoint of Yesubai (daughter of Lokesh). If you are a fan of the Tiger's series, you are going to absolutely love this novella. There is something so engaging about the way that Coleen Houck writes. She manages to do exactly what I want with a book- to escape every day life and go on a fantastical adventure. Even within the short range of this novella, I found myself transported to Yesubai's home.

I loved getting the back story about Yesubai and Ki

I am not happy with myself that I read this...I just couldn't resist it sitting in my TBR pile. Now....I want to keep reading the series again for the 4th time...and it makes me want Book 5 REALLY bad.

So good, and got to like Kishan even more...poor Ren, love him of course, but you really love Kishan in here. And of course, hate Lokesh even more if that is at all possible. And hear Yesuabi's side of it.

WHERE IS BOOK 5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tiger’s Promise by Colleen Houck

Personal Response: I was really excited to have found out more about Yesubai. In The Tiger’s Curse series, the reason Ren and Kishan didn’t get along was because of their past love interest, Yesubai. The author didn’t go into much more detail about her, until now. It explained further in detail about the relationships Yesubai and the princes developed. In this novella, I related well to Yesubai because she too had a quiet demeanor and was a young woman.

This was such an easy and quick read as well as entertaining.

This book is so sweet and wonderful. I wouldn't say that it adds any depth to the Tiger's Curse series mostly because the main event in this book has been covered in the series. However, I still found it to be entertaining and sweet. Mostly because it has been so long since I read this series and it is wonderful to be back to the original story that got me to be a reader. After reading this I just want to re-read the entire series whi

Initial Thoughts Upon Finishing
Boy oh boy does Houck know how to write a good story. I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to get around to reading this considering Tiger’s Curse is my favourite series - but it sure lived up to expectations! I really enjoyed the back stories and different perspectives!

Tiger's Promise
This novella gives us (finally!) the back story to what really happened when the curse was placed upon the two brothers. Whilst we got something of an idea from the prologue that h
Hey guys, so I finished Tigers Promise, a prequel novella to the tiger Saga by Colleen Houck. And was okay. It was about Yesubai, the daughter of Lokesh and the girl Ren and Kishan first fought over. Though honestly, I dunno why. She might have been beautiful, but internally...*winces* I mean...she had her moments and seemed to want to be a good person, but the fact remains, she was just a tool for her father to use. Through and through. I get that her father was horrid and blah blah ...more

Personal Response:
I really enjoyed this book. I thought it was a good addition to the Tiger's Curse series. I liked that it directly tied to the prologue in the first book of the series. The parts about Yesubai make a lot more sense now.
At the beginning of the novel Yesubai was a timid young girl. She was afraid of her father and was always quiet because of the fear that she would upset him. She loved Isha, the only person who cared for her. Yesubai was a beautiful girl, so to

Finished this morning and I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. I don't usually like prequels. To me - they seem like fillers for the fans, something to wet our appetites because we're going crazy for the next book in the series. I usually don't get anything out of them, they're not as exciting as the actual series..

But Tiger's Promise actually surprised me. I knew it was about Yesubai and before I read it, I was hoping it would be like 3 pages about her and the rest would be about the boys

A fantastic addition to one of my favorite series. This is a novella that fans who have read the series will enjoy, and one that fans who are just getting into the series should read. I loved being back in this series. I forgot about the excitement, and heartbreak that takes place within this enchanting world. Houck gives fans an exciting look into the history of Yesbuai and the begin of Tiger's Curse. And WOW! What a beginning to the curse. I swear while I was reading about it I sat with my mou ...more

Before the curse every began, there was a promise. This is the novella for the Tiger Saga. I remember reading the first book in the Tiger Saga so very long ago, and loving how everything was written. Colleen writes with such incredible detail and finesse that you feel like you’re plopped right into the character’s world.

YES...YES...YES!!!! I have truly missed this series!! After reading the first 4 books awhile ago, I've been eagerly awaiting the fifth and final instalment. When I got news of this tour, I jumped straight on board.

During the series we've gotten the gist of how this story went by retellings, but to actually read it from Yesubai's POV and get her story really sheds a whole new light on the picture. To know the true extent of what they all went through and how everything came to be was just amazing

I greatly enjoyed this insight into a key element of the Tiger's Curse series. This story is a prequel but I would not read it first. It does fit in nicely as 4.5.

It was very enlightening to see into Yesubai's situation and to know where she was coming from when the tiger's curse hit our two favorite boys. I won't give anything away, but lets just say that things aren't always as they seem.

Also very interesting are the two bonus chapters, one from the viewpoint of Yesubai's mother and another

I liked this little novella pretty well, but it didn't blow me away like the books did. While reading the series, I had already gotten into the habit of disliking Yesubai, so it took me awhile to warm up to her in this book. The story is so short that there isn't much room for development anyway.

It was heartbreaking to see the cruelty and pain in Yesubai's childhood with her horrible father. I really admired that she was so determined to be a good person, despite her father's terrible influence.

3,5: Short but sweet.

The writing seemed much better to me now than it did in the first book. I guess even famous writers grow (more) into their style over time :-)

However I'm not giving more than 3,5 stars because it didn't quite grasp me as much as Kelsey's story did ... Part of this may be due to the fact that (even though I had won the e-book fair and square through an online contest!), several chapters were unreadable on my specific type of e-reader, so I had to read it on my desktop pc. Tiger's Promise was a wonderful surprise from author Colleen Houck. I have been a huge fan of the Tiger's Curse Series since it's original self-published days. This novella is a wonderful glimpse into the life of Yesubai and the circumstances surrounding her engagement to Ren and her attraction to Kishan. It is always a treat to get a bonus book that helps to flesh out some of the backstory or untold portions of a story. This was so short! It was fun to see into the background of the Ren/Kishan/Yesubai story. Sad, too..there's got to be some resolution from this one! Why, oh why is "Tiger's Dream" taking SO blasted long to release?!!! It had better be good since I've been looking forward to it for years!!! (what a teaser at the end, huh?) Another's been too long since I've read the Tiger's Curse series. I've forgotten some stuff, and this prequel made me want to re-read the whole thing. So many good b ...more

Tiger's Promise was a nice novella, but in all honesty I just wanted to skip to the end and read the alternate ending to Tiger's Destiny. I was actually hoping for something with Ren and Kelsey, but I am just as happy with Kishan and Anamika. Yesubai's story was really interesting, but I didn't really think Isha's perspective was necessary. All in all, I am so excited for Tiger's Dream!! The anticipation is killing me. ...more

I will start by saying " i need more!" Lol. This novel is amazing, I used to dislike Yesubai before, the truth is I blamed her of everything but now I feel bad for her, I can see where she came from. I love every character ( except Lokesh).
The sneak Peek from Tiger's Dream made me nervous, I'm worried lol. The las thing I want to say is that the discussion questions area is a awesome idea I can't wait to discuss them with my friend ;)
