HOLY CANNOLI!! This book owned me from the first page to the last. It was DISTURBING but NOT to the extreme, which, for me, is the perfect Dark Romance.

This story took me out of my comfort zone and had me cringing but not to the point that I was left traumatized. Deliver is more a love story than a dark twisted tale, but I couldn't help but feel the connection created between the hero and heroine through the first half of the book was a form of Stockholm Syndrome for the hero. Due to all that he experienced, how could it not be?!

Deliver has much to offer its readers in terms of an unique, emotional, and disturbing plot; a powerful but slightly warped love story, and characters so richly developed that they breathe life into each and every page. I fell in love with this book, its hero and heroine, and its ability to make me feel a range of emotions. The best part...the captor was a woman!

What a book! Between Deliver and Beneath the Burn I am officially a fan of Pam Godwin. I'm pretty sure I will read anything she writes. Deliver is an original concept with some twists and turns I was not expecting. Full of suspense, steam and romance (yes, I said romance), this is a story you won’t want to miss out on!

Liv is on the move. She’s found him. The guy who meets all the requirements that the buyer desires. He’s athletic, built and a virgin. And it’s her job to lure him in, train him, then sell him. Liv wasn’t always like this, but life dealt her this hand and she can’t get out. She does what she has to for her own reasons.
The job, the job, the job. Focus on the job. Be the job. Or else. It was all she was, a mechanical, hollow nothing that did anything needed to prevent the else.

 photo 16cc68f7-a477-45a9-a033-1f7040dba2fd_zpsec61ee01.jpg

When Joshua Carter sees a woman stranded on the side of the road, he stops to help her. It’s in his nature. Josh is a college football star who helps his parents on their farm. He is working towards a ministry degree. An all around good guy. He never expects the nice girl he’s helping to get him into a situation he can’t get out of.

 photo 9e08fb0f-2515-4bd7-943f-855149726d6f_zps1536e7d5.jpg

Now that Liv has Josh, it’s her job to get him ready. Prepare him to be sold. Josh is the most disobedient slave she’s ever trained. He’s not easy to break. Josh knows Liv isn’t all bad. He can see it in her. The good that comes through no matter how hard she tries to hide it. Or is he just seeing what he wants to see?

Josh’s goal in life is to help people. To save them. Can he save Liv? From what? Herself? He doesn’t know, but he will do anything in his power to try.
To win this, he’d play her game until, eventually, hopefully, they played on the same side.

 photo 003db57b-4a0b-42fd-adb6-6c2a7d5a1d48_zps0ff40209.jpg
He looked at her like he could save her. Maybe he could.

I really don’t want to summarize this much farther... There were so many twists and turns, moments that I did not see coming it would be no fun if any of those were spoiled. So now I’ll just talk about the characters and some of the things I loved about this book!

Liv isn’t the bad bitch you think she is. I mean, she has to be sometimes, but everything she does has a purpose. You might not know what it is at the time, you might hate her at times, but she’s not a bad person. She is a person stuck in an impossible situation doing the best she can. I understood all her actions. There were many I didn’t like, but I understood them. I thought I would struggle with her, but she is a heroine I grew to love and respect.

Now Joshua Carter. I was so smitten with this man. Kind, loyal, devoted- he never ever gave up. In a situation that it would be so easy to break and give in, Josh always stood his ground. He did what he thought was right. Even in their insane situation, he saw things in Liv that made him want to keep fighting. Not just fighting for him, but for her too. Liv and Josh had this connection that could not be denied. As much as Liv doesn’t want to have these feelings for Josh, she does.

 photo 8ada4f4d-6d2d-4abd-85fe-2d6373be60c7_zpseefca0bd.jpg

Then there is this character named Van. Van was a guy that had issues. Major issues. He worked with Liv. They had a history. As screwed up as Van was, he really loved Liv in his way. I think he loved her as much as he was capable.
“Someday, I hope to matter to you, because you are the only one who matters to me. You will always be mine, Liv.”

Most people will probably hate Van. Some will have mixed feelings for the guy. I had moments I wasn’t so sure about him, I mean, Van IS one of the bad guys-

Overall, this book was amazing. It really worked for me. It was my type of read. I loved how unique the story was. It’s not very often that I read a book and am constantly surprised. It’s a great feeling to have. Deliver was a wild ride. My emotions were all over the place. There were times I didn’t know what to feel, but boy did I feel! I loved the writing, the characters, the story, pretty much everything about this one. Do yourself a favor and pick it up!

★★★★+! Deliver (stand-alone) book 1. Tasked with breaking, training & delivering College football star Joshua Carter as a sex slave Liv is faced with a dangerous attraction, impossible undertaking and… hope!

“Requirement One. Slave has never experienced sexual intimacy with a woman. Slave is heterosexual but hates women. He desires only his Master.”

Books in the Deliver series are stand-alones, but most enjoyed if read in order:
Book 1: Deliver
Book 2: Vanquish

Deliver (book 1) opens up to Liv Reed watching Joshua Carter, Josh play what she expects to be his last football game, ever! He is a star linebacker for Baylor University Bears as he has committed himself to a degree in religion and becoming a minister.

That decision in conjunction with his stunning good looks and splendid physic put him on Liv’s radar. She is a deliverer which means she captures, breaks, trains and delivers sex slaves, per the specification of the purchaser.

Liv has been doing this job for seven long years ever since she was herself captured to be sold off as a sex slave. What exactly happened and what caused her to stay behind and become a deliverer will unfold with story.

Josh’s buyer and to-be-owner has twelve requirements starting with a heterosexual virgin who loathes women and upon training will welcome and submit to his male master’s every need and demand.

 photo Deliver1bysb_zps8b4e5000.gif

Liv, the Domme has 10 weeks, together with her capturer, to break and train Josh. She has her work cut out as Josh, though still a virgin, is every bit a commanding, sexual and assertive male. The sex scenes vary from violent, disturbing, explosive and erotic to tender, explorative, seeking even loving.

What works in Liv’s favor is the instant connection and attraction they feel for each other. What works against them, aside from the obvious, will unfold with story pushing all boundaries of right-wrong, despair-hope, desire-control.

This sexy and angsty erotic thriller will put Josh and Liv in both danger and anguish as they go up against unknown dark forces in human slave trafficking, but more importantly forcing them to look inwards to question coincidence and faith, and the possibility of forgiveness and redemption

JOSHUA CARTER, JOSH:
21 years/farmer’s son/University student/aspiring minister/star linebacker/black hair/pale green eyes/6’2”/virgin.

Joshua Carter, Josh is an amazing hero. His combination of the good son of a small-town farmer, devout Christian, focused student, star athlete and now captor allows for interesting balance of commanding young alpha and a man willing to submit while forced to reflect and re-evaluate his sexual desires and purpose in life.

Seven words to describe Josh: Noble, smart, perceptive, analytical, in control, commanding and dutiful.

“He represented purity, beauty, family, all of the things that had been taken from her. He was a glimmer of goodness in her dark fucking world, a warm spark she could hold, if only for a fleeting span of time.”

 photo Deliverhexbysb_zpsfdea9450.gif

LIV REED:
24 years/captive/slave deliverer/Domme/dark brown hair/brown eyes/5’2”/scar.

As the story unfolds Liv Reed will become a very compelling heroine, full of depth, surprises and strength and a surviving spirit. Seven words to describe Liv: Strong, broken, damaged, hopeless, adaptable, perceptive and enduring .

“She was stolen innocence, following the rules of monsters. Somewhere along the way, she’d become one.”

Deliver is an erotic thriller that kept me on my toes to the very end, allowing for several unexpected developments. I am happy with the outcome and the epilogue. Though this is a stand-alone in series I have a feeling we might cross paths with Josh and Liv again. There are some unrealistic elements to the story, which did deduct from my overall rating.

Unusual and suspenseful plot! Spiteful and cryptic villains! Determined and compelling hero and heroine! A message of hope and redemption! An against-all-odds love!

“I knew you weren’t the right choice for this.” She met his eyes and found her way. “You were the right choice for me.”

~5 Deliver Me Stars~

“I am a deliverer. I deliver the strikes that enforce your obedience.”-Liv

description

Deliver is a heart stopping physiological dark romance full of twists and turns. It is not a read for the faint at heart. This read evoked a plethora of emotions ranging from anger, joy, love, lust, passion, disgust, and everything in between. Although this was not my first experience with reading a book focused on sex trafficking, it was my first experience reading about a female as "the master". To prepare myself for this read, I tried to avoid reading reviews. I recommend the same for anyone that wants to read this book. It is best to go in cold. Be prepared to hold your breath, tighten your gut, and brace for impact!

Liv is a deliverer. She is trained to capture women and men and train them to be a sex slave. After she has trained them, she delivers them to their new master. Her partner in this business is Van. Van is a cryptic character with some seriously questionable sexual fetishes. From the very first page, it is established that Van and Liv have a volatile relationship. It is abundantly apparent that they have a history.

"She wanted to hate him, but he was all she had. She wanted to love him, but memories tore deep and scarred."-Liv

How did they come into this business of training slaves? How can they possibly live with their choices? How can someone be good and do such deplorable things?

description

Liv and Van are not the masterminds behind the operation. They have a boss who manages and controls every move they make. In this case, Liv and Van have been given the task of finding a virgin man who hates women but is not gay. You might think that would be an impossible task. However, a person can transform to the most unthinkable things under unbearable amounts of physical and emotional abuse.

Josh is a good 'ole boy from central Texas. He works hard on his parents farm and is on the football team at Baylor University where he is studying to be a pastor. Josh is a virgin and he is a prime catch for Liv and Van. Liv lures Josh in and before you know what has happened he is being chained up and offered up like a lamb going to the slaughter.

“Joshua Carter no longer exists.”-Liv

description

As the horrors unfold, so many questions begin to surface. We watch Liv struggle with her role as the master. She has conflicting feelings and yet her main focus is to do the job in order to maintain... ha ha caught you there...you are going to have to read the book to find out why she does what she does!

"Compassion was lethal to Liv’s well-being, but she couldn’t stop it as it shuddered over her skin and swallowed up her heart."

description

Josh's struggle goes beyond the physical pain he is experiencing. As a virgin he has minimal experience regarding the opposite sex. Beyond self sexual gratification, his experience has been limited to kissing and some over the clothes petting. And now he is strapped up naked and subjugated to everything unthinkable. To put it simply, it shatters his control. He is confused. He is aroused by Liv and maybe even starting to feel emotions for her. Additionally, Josh is a Christian and he loves the Lord. How is it that God has forsaken him in his time of need? Josh struggles with his feelings for Liv, his disgust for what he is enduring, the sexual temptation he is facing, and his spirituality is rocked to the core.

"God had nothing to do with it. Doubt trickled in. Doubt in His divine rescue. Doubt in himself."-Josh

"To win this, he’d play her game until, eventually, hopefully, they played on the same side."-Josh

As the story progresses, Liv and Josh form a bond. Josh is the balm to Liv's ache. When everything is revealed, it is shockingly evident that Liv and Josh were meant to meet and to save each other. Which begs the age old question, does everything happen for a reason? Would Josh say it was God's plan all along for him to face this trial in order to discover Liv. I will leave you to discover the answer to that.

description

"He represented purity, beauty, family, all of the things that had been taken from her. He was a glimmer of goodness in her dark world, a warm spark she could hold, if only for a fleeting span of time."-Liv

description

Overall, Deliver left me breathless. As an avid reader, I enjoy to dabble in every genre. This trip to the dark side is one that I will never forget. Ms. Godwin has perfected the art of storytelling. Her characters are complex and well developed. The imagery she evokes is vivid and crystal clear for the reader. The tension is pulled just tight enough before there is the comfort of release. Every single moment was felt deep in the gut (or in some cases the heart). Every beat, breath, tear, hit, and sexual atrocity (and desire) was explored to the fullest. As a mother, my heart hurt for Liv, Josh, and Van. As a women of faith, I related to Josh and his struggle with God's protection throughout his captivity. As a lover, I was a voyeur to non conventional sexual practices. Perhaps this description is too personal and yet I find my review to be well versed for this read. Frankly, Deliver is personal. It's painful. It's beautiful. It's something you will never forget. I am forever grateful to Ms. Godwin for once again pressing me out of my comfort zone. As I predicted, the dark is an amazing place to be. I highly recommend this read to anyone that enjoys a ride on the wild side into the unknown. Although I have tried to articulate my feelings of this book clearly, the bottom line is this story is one that I will never forget!

"He would say the hand of God was holding them up, delivering them. She called it love. Her heart didn’t fall. It flew."-Josh

5+ Deliver Us from Evil stars

LIV

She was stolen innocence, following the rules of monsters. Somewhere along the way, she’d become one.

JOSHUA CARTER

He represented purity, beauty, family, all of the things that had been taken from her. He was a glimmer of goodness in her dark fucking world, a warm spark she could hold, if only for a fleeting span of time.

Ten weeks.

The goal Complete and total submission. Broken and hopeless.

Twelve Requirements...

This is one of those books I am so happy and thankful I went in blind, thinking I knew what I was going to get but shocked to find out I was so wrong. This had me on edge the entire way, bound and helpless. The dark twisted world she painted was so vivid it was easy to step into story and suffer each moment with them. Lost in each moment, wondering what s going to happen next, Liv kept her cards tucked away, trusting no one but herself. Joshua had no choice but to trust in his strength to survive, adapting to his surroundings and welcoming the torment that was promised.

When you do read this, don't read it when you know you can't devote time to it, I was pissed at myself starting this right before the holidays, making it drawn out, keeping me on edge all the more, having my imagination run wild. Regardless, it was a crazy brilliant ride one I am so glad I took. I can't wait to read the Van's book because I honestly don't know what to expect from him, and I don't want to know, wanting him to tell me his story himself.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT BALLS!

I don't know what I expected when I started this book. I knew Pam Godwin was uber talented after reading and totally getting addicted to Beneath the Burn, but this story was just so…unique. I LOVED Liv and Josh! What GREAT characters with steaming chemistry during a really frightening and odd situation. Books to me are fabulous when the writing just drips and flows into amazing scenes and are different from what else is out there and DELIVER certainly delivers! A WOMAN sex slave trainer!? THE DELIVERER!????!!!! WHAT!? Totally rocked my world and then some. I should have been writing last night but instead I stayed up until 2am to finish Deliver because I just HAD to know what happened!

5 plus plus stars. One-click the fucking shit out of this, devour it, and beg Pam Godwin for more because I sure as shit am.

Pam Goodwin DELIVERED a well-written dark read that I thoroughly enjoyed.

The story starts with Liv doing a final round of scouting at a college football game on one Joshua Carter…

description

"In his four-year college career as a linebacker, he had caught a record of twenty-three interceptions. As a trained sex slave, he would catch seven digits in an offshore account.”

Van and Mistress try to train and break Joshua...

"I'm failing. I've tried everything I can think of." She released a shuddered to exhale. "You're the worst slave ever."

Joshua's faith, his strength to save both of them gift's Liv the love she never dreamed she could have...

description

"I stand here without rope or chains, Liv, tethered to you by my own will." His blood beat with the ferocity of his words. "I won't be free until you are."

This story has so many twists and turns (some of which I found to be a bit over the top.) There are some seriously dark and disturbing scenes and then there is LOVE and FAITH!

description

I relished in Joshua's faith, compassion and strength. The ending was fantastic and the story unforgettable!

3.5--Too Unrealistic--Stars!!

My biggest problem I think with this book was that it just wasn't believable...too much didn't add up.

I didn't buy the connection between Josh and Liv. I really struggled with Josh's character. How he could go from a twenty-something virgin football star studying to be a minister

"Fulfilling their promise. They'd made a deal with God. If He gave them a child, they vowed to raise their miracle to be a servant of His church in Baptist ministry."
to willing taking a strap-on up the ass and wanting to be beat for pleasure.

I will say, the writing was good...and the story was engaging and suspenseful. I was never bored. But I did roll my eyes at quite a few things throughout the book.

It's hard to say much without giving anything away....but Josh is Liv's latest "victim". He is slave number eight that she is to kidnap and train for the latest buyer.

"He represented purity, beauty, family, all of the things that had been taken from her. He was a glimmer of goodness in her dark fucking world, a warm spark she could hold, if only for a fleeting span of time."

I thought the development of their "relationship" happened really quickly. They went from Mistress and boy to Liv and Josh almost overnight...and all because Josh wouldn't kiss Van?? Because he was stubborn, disobedient and untrainable?

Van and Liv are a team of sorts. Van's character was

They had a weird relationship to say the least. Several things about Van didn't add up for me....the end especially.

You did not just do that Liv....and then

There were aspects I liked about this one, and aspects I didn't. I think if you're a fan of captor type love stories you'll like this one. You'll root for Josh and Liv to have a HEA despite everything else.

"You said you freed me, but freedom isn't defined by chains or walls. You, alive, with me. That's my freedom."

My first reaction after reading: UM WUT. This book has so much in it! From romance to action then to suspense, my brain and heart never got a chance to relax before something happened. And that’s a good thing! The book grabbed my attention and kept me fully engaged with the story.

Dark scale (1-10): 5
Mindfuck scale (1-10): 2
No Stockholm syndrome; more like a survivor romance. You do what you need to do to stay alive.

**It wasn’t as dark as I thought it would be because of Josh’s character. He’s a wonderful guy, really sweet, and that kind of evened out the dark field ;)**

description

The story begins with the Deliverer, Liv, intently watching her target: an innocent, handsome, righteous 21 year old football player Josh. Liv’s job is to “deliver” people who fit her clients’ requirements, and with his fair outer appearance and sexual innocence, Josh is perfect for what she’s looking for. Alongside Van (whose role in the book is still iffy at this point), they successfully maneuver the kind-hearted Josh into their trap and lock him up, preparing his training as a slave.

I have to say here that this first part really tore me up. I’m normally okay, no wait, giddy, to read about captive/captor stories and I thought this would be like any other one. Except for me, there was no thrill anymore. Josh is the sweetest, most innocent and good person, and to read his thoughts were heartbreaking: his first instinct is to worry about his parents, who rely on him with their farm. Even when he’s captured, he still tries to help Liv. However, he quickly learns that when Liv switches into her “Mistress” mode and trains slaves, there are no soft moments.

description

Then comes the part where the book went a little downhill for me. I get that there has to be a turn or a certain degree of power Liv relinquishes in order for her and Josh’s romance to develop, but the pace at which they fall for each other was disarming. As in it didn’t convince me. Another aspect that made me feel iffy for a good portion of the book was Liv herself. From the blurb and the first few chapters, Liv is expected to be this dominant, badass, hardcore Mistress who has no fears and is confident in all she does, but after finding out how she started into this whole business brought down her character in terms of an anti-heroine who later opens up to Josh, not having a weak spot for him from the beginning.

Anyways, they have this connection that she doesn’t have with anyone, not even Van.

description

I really loved Van’s character and his role in the story. He was the source of some tension and conflict within the timeframe Liv trains Josh so it kept the book interesting. There’s this one scene with Van near the end that gave me a mini-heart attack and I was absolutely FURIOUS with Liv. At that time I condemned her to the fiery pits of hell and now that I think about it, I don’t regret it one bit. Because of the way events played out with Van, I wished the author revisited his character and not left me (and probably other readers) questioning (DO NOT open this spoiler unless you’ve read the book) Anyways I think if you’re a romantic at heart you will be really pleased with the last 25% of the book.

description

Aside from the things I mentioned before that prevented me from giving the book 5 stars, there was one more thing that made me go huh. Anyway my point is that this, along with some other events, were wrapped up too nicely and took away from the dark aspect of the book. Overall this was a pretty unique and suspenseful read. The numerous twists and turns in the book kept me on my toes and the erotic nature of the story should be commended.

What an amazing story... I absolutely loved it!

Deliver is the second book I've read by Pam Godwin and it was once again a winner for me. An original storyline, the author's easy flowing, lyrical writing style and two amazingly strong but complex main characters made this easily one of my favorite reads of 2014 so far!

I don't want to give too much away about the storyline because that would ruin your reading experience. The blurb pretty mush says it all. Even though this book might not be for everyone, I would highly recommend giving it a try! You just have to dive in and let the experience wash over you. If you're a fan of "dark romance reads" like I am, you won't regret it. :)

"She was a deliverer, a killer, a soulles captor."

"She was a demon in the form of the most beautiful girl on earth."

Liv is a deliverer. She captures young boys and girls, trains them to be the perfect sex slave and then sells them to the buyer who ordered them. For 7 years she's been doing her job without ever getting to attached to her "trainees" but when Josh becomes her newest pupil, he makes her feel things she never expected to feel. At first, I thought that I would hate Liv for what she does for a living but it was obvious early on that she's just as much a victim as the ones she trains. She's ruled and controlled by her bosses and forced to detach herself and her feelings from her work. She's actually a broken woman who's been through some horrible, traumatic events in her past and Josh is the first person who's able to break through her numbness and the walls around her heart.

"He was a glimmer of goodness in her dark fucking world, a warm spark she could hold, if only for a fleeting span of time."

OMG, I absolutely adored Josh! He was so sweet, responsible, gentle and caring BUT at the same time he was also incredibly strong willed, determined and despite his harsh conditions he never broke down. Whatever was thrown at him, he shouldered with all the ease in the world. Of course, I felt really bad for him whenever he had to go through another humiliating experience as part of his "training" but even then, he remained stoic. From the moment he met Liv, he was drawn to her and enamored by her beauty and unique personality and he takes it upon himself to save her from herself and bring out the caring and loving girl he knows is hiding behind her tough exterior.

"Mistress, I love your smile. If I could free it once a day, it might make the next ten weeks bearable."

Of course, I knew there were going to be some dark scenes and could possibly make my stomach churn. And well, there were scenes like that. Scenes that made kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading them...

But thankfully, there were also plenty of "mellower" scenes that allowed Liv and Josh the time to grow closed and develop their relationship. The combination of the two constantly kept me on guard, wondering what was going to happen next.

This book made me go through so many emotions; I felt like I was right along there with Josh and Liv, living through both their sides of the story and having no clue as to how the story could possibly end. All the tension, anguish, pain and despair made me clutch my heart and hope for a miracle. But the slowly developing bond and relationship between Liv and Josh prevented this story from ever becoming to dark or depressing.

"When it's just you and me, lose all those guarded layers. Let me see you."

Another thing I really liked about this book was the soundtrack. All the songs the author mentioned in the story really fitted right in with the storyline and listening to them while reading the scenes they were mentioned in, made my reading experience even better.

All in all, Deliver is a book that will definitely stay with me for a long time and it made me an even bigger fan of Pam Godwin than I already was. The sequel will be about Van, a character that I had many conflicting feelings about, and I'm already anxiously looking forward to its release!

No cliffhanger.

She called it love. Her heart didn’t fall. It flew.”

Deliver is superbly written and compelling. Even when I was disgusted/disturbed by the events unfolding on the page, I could not turn away. This unique story is dark, gritty, and emotionally charged - heart racing, mind spinning, stomach turning. It was intense. I had no idea how to feel, what to expect or hope for.

Liv is a deliverer. She and her partner, Van, abduct and train their victims to become sex slaves. Each client has a list of requirements that must be met in order for the sale to be complete. These requirements lead her to her latest acquisition, the virginal Josh Carter.

He represented purity, beauty, family, all of the things that had been taken from her. He was a glimmer of goodness in her dark fucking world, a warm spark she could hold, if only for a fleeting span of time.

Josh's innocence draws Liv in. Even in the darkest times of his captivity, Josh, remains strong and willful. But is he drawn to Liv and discovers things about himself he never really accepted before.

Her voice was an offering from God and a temptation from hell, a tone so potent it could corrupt a man, or save him.

In this twisted game, Josh and Liv form a strong connection, finding freedom in each others arms.

“Nothing compared to the freedom of floating in his arms.

But Liv still has a deadline to make, the safety of those she holds dear depends on it. Will she be able to protect Josh and her loved ones?

This book is dark and brutal. Slightly unrealistic but enthralling, with tons of twist and turns.

Side note : Van. You terrifying, hair pulling, intriguing man. I cannot wait to get my hands on your book.

I really wanted to get sucked into this one because I adored Dark Notes. It’s not because this one isn’t well written, it is, it’s not because it wasn’t enthralling, it was. Everything about this book, I’m sure this series is great.

I’ve just finally come to the conclusion that I just don’t enjoy captivity books.

So, I won’t be rating this one.

Pam Godwin,

Again you have delivered another great book. This book is a little bit of everything and to be honest the blurb does nothing for it because there was SO MUCH MORE to it. In Deliver we have Liv and Joshua. Liv, is the deliverer hired to kidnap and train Joshua to become a sex slave.

Liv...another great female character. One thing I know to expect from Pam's heroines is that they are strong women. I won't go into why I feel the way I do about Liv because I don't want to spoil the story. I'll just say she's more than meets the eye.

Joshua...my heart ached for him. Through the whole ordeal his strength and conviction never wavered. From the start he saw the real Liv and fought for her in every sense of the word.

There were aspects of the story that were seriously fucked up. I thought to myself-

Some as fucked as they were, my oh so dirty mind also enjoyed them.

The second half of the book in typical Pam Godwin style takes you on a fast paced roller coaster. She manages to engage the reader and makes us believe we are there.

I loved this book! I don't typically go for dark erotica, but after watching the trailer for this book, I wanted it ASAP. If you are a Captive in the Dark fan, read this NOW. Stop everything, I don't care if it's my book in your hand. Stop it, and read this. <-- high praise people.

Things I loved:
strong female lead
smoking hot male lead
writing that created images in my head I couldn't run from
hot sex often. yes please
great writing
unique plot
the nonstop grabs. Every time I'd think about setting the book down to do something, I couldn't. There was a new cliffhanger to keep me involved.
it's dark, but it's not too dark. It takes you to that line, but doesn't step over it.

Things I didn't love:
the H's parents. i think it was realistic for them to be the way they were, but I just didn't like the taste that the interactions with them left in my mouth.
I would have liked to see more, know more, about Mr. E's wife. Maybe that will be in book 2.

Things I hated:
Nothing. Seriously. Nothing.

End note: highly recommend.

Deliver is a dark and thrilling story about sacrifice, love, hate and revenge that will push your limits about understanding choices and motivations. The characters are resilient and yet vulnerable, making imperfect choices where the consequences can be grave. This review will attempt to cover my reactions without giving away any twists or spoilers.

Meet Liv: a slave hunter and trainer. She is tenacious, brave and determined about her ultimate goal. She acts to protect the two people in her life that she loves the most and all her pain – physical and emotional – is part of a larger sacrifice.

“No mind-reading required. Seven years and seven captured slaves had taught her how to detect weakness in a voice and smell the waste in its words.”

Meet Van: a slave hunter and trainer. To sum up Van in a sentence or two is impossible! He is dark, brooding, lonely and dangerous.

“She wanted to hate him, but he was all she had. She wanted to love him, but memories tore deep and scarred.”

Meet Joshua/Josh: a linebacker at Baylor who is abducted by Liv to fulfill the newest slave order. Josh is incredibly strong, perceptive and honorable – and has some kink in him.

”She knew she should order him to strip and kneel and kiss her feet. She also knew if she peeled away the layers of bull shit around her heart, she’d find a hopeful girl who wanted him stubborn and fierce and whole, exactly as he was.”

Together, Liv and Van perpetuate the cycle of capturing and training innocent people as slaves in order to fulfill orders to slave buyers. Josh is Liv’s newest mark to break and prepare for the slave buyer. Over the training period, Liv realizes Josh is much more than what he seems.

What ensues is a tale of unpredictable twists and turns that takes the reader on an incredible journey. From the beginning, Pam Godwin hooked me! Her writing style is intelligent and compelling. The characters are so complex yet they are presented in such a way that is completely relatable. Throughout the book, I felt the weight of each character’s decisions and I was so anxious to turn each page. There were moments that made me squeamish, hopeful, angry, sad, scared and content – a full range of emotions! The character development was intriguing and incredibly well crafted.

Deliver is a gripping book that makes an everlasting impression - the plot and characters will remain etched in your memory.

*** FULL REVIEW NOW POSTED *** 4.5 stars!!

What a wild ride! I wanted a dark read and boy did this one ever deliver!! <-- hehehe, no pun ;)

Her name is Liv, and his name is whatever she wants it to be. She is a Deliverer. She lures young men and delivers them to be sold. She delivers the strikes that enforce their obedience. She delivers the sexual training that determines their purchase price.

As long as she delivers, the arrangement that protects her family will hold. Delivering is all she knows.

The one thing she won't deliver is a captive from slavery.

Until him. And the stubborn boy thinks he can deliver her...from herself.

If you're a fan of dark romance, Deliver is definitely a book you should add to your list!! It's dark, dangerous, suspenseful, erotic, and at it's heart, it' a love story. I'm not going to lie though, it definitely made me uncomfortable at times but that's kind of what you should expect from a darker romance so again, in every way, this book delivered.

The story was told in alternating POVs and the author really did a wonderful job of strongly distinguishing the two voices. Both Liv and Josh had a very distinct personality and ways of thinking that really stood out in their sections of the book and I really appreciated seeing how vastly different they were.

I have to admit, even though I do love a good dark read now and again, what drew me into this one was the uniqueness of the scenario -- I mean, the woman was the captor?? Totally had my attention!

"She was stolen innocence, following the rules of monsters. Somewhere along the way, she'd become one."

But interestingly, even though at first she came across as the villain of the story, we quickly learned that despite her role as his captor, she was every bit as much a victim as he was. The same thing that was being done to him had been done to her and now what was being held over her head ensured that she would continue to perpetuate this cycle and carry out this despicable job in order to save her family.

"Trapped in paranoia, she was terrified to make a mistake, her every action watched, judged, and used to threaten her family."

I really want to say how much I loved Josh. What an awesome guy. Seriously, I dare you not to like him. He was smart, kind, and his quiet strength tugged at all my heart strings.

"He would concentrate his attention on observing what she was hiding and hearing what wasn't being said. He would study her face and learn her expressions… What were his limits? How much could he endure before he despised her so much he lost himself in hate? .... To win this, he'd play her game until, eventually, hopefully, they played on the same side."

It was heart breaking to see him go through the panic of being taken but I loved how he really never lost himself. Throughout it all, despite everything she was doing to him, he saw something in her that made him care for her. He genuinely wanted to save her and, regardless of their situation, this selfless guy was falling for the girl who'd destroyed his life.

Please pay attention to the content warning on the blurb though. This book is not for the faint of heart but underneath everything, it was the story of what happens when good people are put into terrible situations. It shows their true colors in the face of dangerous and sometimes deadly situations. In this case, it was about one man's care for a woman who had stolen him from his life, violated him, subjugated him to cruelty and despite it all, he was still determined to save her from a life not that different than his new one.

"Don't you see how wrong I am? I'm a kidnapper. A murderer. A fucking monster."

"I see all of you… I claim every jagged piece of you."

Ohhh also there was a really cool twist in the second half of the book that I honestly never saw coming. It wasn't even an idea I had entertained and I really loved the direction it took the story in.

All in all this story turned out to be much more complex than I originally expected and I really appreciated how well developed the plot was. And I also loved that the ending was not rushed in any way. It took the time to let you heal a little from the darker elements of the story and overall, I found this book to be both well balanced and well written. I would highly recommend this for any fans of dark romance.

"I -- " she kissed the spot over his heart, leaned up, and kissed his lips, softly, breathlessly, "-- you."

His heartbeat catapulted, strumming every cell in his body. "You, too, girl."

Rating: 4.5 stars. Standalone.

Content warning: Graphic sex, violence, and psychological abuse. Age 18+ only.

DELIVER was Christy's birthday read. Not to surprising that Kara and Christy finished a day ahead of me. So, they had to wait for my "pokey-self" to catch up to them. Happy Birthday, Christy!!♥♥♥

NOW, onto the actual book:

BLACKMAIL can be a very effective coercion technique when controlling a situation or person. The Deliverer was a killer and a soulless captor and this job created her into something she was not proud of.
She was stolen innocence, following the rules of monsters. Somewhere along the way, she'd become one.
I love reading dark books especially when they have a twist. The ending of DELIVER did not disappoint because it had several twist along the way. Being shocked is one of the many thrilling things about reading a dark book.

Here is an awesome book trailer the author created click here.

I have to admit that it was hard for me to get into the story at first because the captive was male vs. female. I had read the summary first, so I knew that it would be a kidnapped college guy, so I was somewhat surprised myself by my response. I guess it was hard for me to break out of my favorite alpha-male stereotype that I prefer. This was a little difficult for me to acknowledge, since I like to think of myself as a bit of a feminist.

Once I got over the fact that the "victim" was a strong, virile male, I really enjoyed the story. As the nature of the relationship between Liv and Josh shifts to consensual, leaving behind the master-slave dynamic, Liv's true motivations are revealed.

As the story unfolded, I found myself liking Liv and Josh, as well as Van. Even though he was a sadistic ass most of the time, there was a part of me that wanted Liv to end up with him. Unrequited love and all, I guess.

The twists in the plot kept me engaged and wondering how it would end right to the last page. Overall, a good story that puts an interesting spin on the kidnapped/captive/slave storyline.

My biggest beef with the erotica genre is that a lot of the ratings feel very inflated. People seem to mostly be rating based on how hot the sex scenes are while ignoring things like sophistication of the writing style and quality, syntax and grammatical errors, and believability of characterization and scenarios. While I get the rationale behind this, it means that books that are about as highbrow as the scribblings on a latrine wall have the same average ratings, in aggregate, as actual masterpieces do. And that is hardly fair.

For a while, I avoided the erotica genre entirely because of this, but curiosity pulled me in. That, and enabling friends, and the fact that some of the more popular books in this genre would occasionally show up for free in the Kindle store. I've been bingeing on them recently and DELIVER by Pam Godwin is the latest in the line-up, seeing as how it recently showed up for free ninety-nine, which I think we can all agree is the absolute best price for an e-book.

One of the things that makes DELIVER stand out from the other "captive" erotica in this genre is that the kidnapper/Dom is a woman. Liv scouts and kidnaps youths to be trained and broken as sex slaves. She's good at what she does - and why wouldn't she be? Before she became the emotionless tyrant that she is now, she was a slave herself, owned by the man who's now her partner, Van.

The requirements for her newest catch are seriously creepy AF and seem to be written by one of those misogynistic "incels" you keep hearing about in the news. Her buyer wants a heterosexual man who's never slept with a woman, but who has been taught to hate women, and who is also trained to be with a man. Liv's goal is to find a young man who meets these specifications and groom him via methodical debasement, teaching him the sexual arts even as she makes him loathe her.

Her quarry ends up being this college student named Josh, who is literally the epitome of the good old country boy. He's a virgin, he plays football and is about to receive a scholarship, he wants to be a minister and spends all of his free time studying the bible, he works on a farm and lives with his parents. Liv decides that the best way to capture to him is to appeal to his old-fashioned gentlemanly nature and pretends to have a car breakdown, luring him into the apartment that will become his prison. And then the "training" begins... dun, dun, dun.

The beginning of this book is pretty exceptionally well done. Liv's coldness and the sense of doom hanging over poor Josh all feels so inevitable. Godwin also doesn't shy away from the grittiness, which I appreciated. If you're going to write dark content, rule #1 is deliver. Don't try to romanticize it or sugar-coat it, because the book will end up being gross. Don't get me wrong, it's still gross - but gross in a "oh my God, this is horrifying, why are people out there who do this" sort of way, and not "what the hell is this author doing, why is she making this seem like it's totally fine" sort of way.

I was leaning towards a five star review for a while, but I think the last quarter of the book gets a little weird. The author tries too hard to rationalize what Liv does, and I think it's so she could give her a semblance of a happy ending without looking like she was rewarding a total monster. Even so, it felt too neat to me, and the beginning of this book suggested that this was going to be a story that scoffed at "neat" so I felt cheated. I also felt like Josh's reactions were unrealistic, that he warmed to Liv too quickly. I get the idea of turning the other cheek, but this was pretty ridiculous. The music angle was a little too silly for me, too. It felt like the author trying to push her book's soundtrack.

Overall, though, this was a pleasant surprise. Definitely one of the better "dark" eroticas I have read - I have read a lot at this point, and some of them are staggeringly horrifically bad. Godwin has a great style and really knows how to use suspense to her advantage to keep you turning those pages. I'm definitely curious to check out the rest of her books generally, as well as the ones in this series.

P.S. Is anyone else kind of dying now for a prequel about how Van and Liv met? Because I am.

Josh is 21 years old. He's a star football player, a devout Christian, and going to school to become a minister. He works hard on his family's farm and his life is written in stone. Or is it? See, Josh is being watched. He fits the criteria that someone is looking for. He fulfills all the requirements. And life as he knows it disappears along with him.

She was stolen innocence, following the rules of monsters. Somewhere along the way, she’d become one.

I'm probably of the minority, but I absolutely hated Liv. HATED HER!! Usually I can hope that an author can redeem a character, but I didn't want to hope with this one. I didn't want to like her. For all of her problems and the facts of her circumstances, I felt no sympathy. She's a monster looking for what? Compassion? Understanding? Eff that!

I figure that she and Josh end up together although she spends a heck of a lot of sexual time with Van (whom I want to know more about), but if dreams really did come true, Josh would use her for survival and freedom and kill her.

“It’s ugly in there, decayed by lies and shame, endlessly bleeding for all the lives I’ve ruined. You’re the eighth reason I don’t deserve affection.”

I'm glad that Liv and I could agree on something. Josh was everything! I loved how easily he acknowledged his love of pain and how it forged a connection to this captor. I didn't love how easily he fell for her, but this IS a romance, so what did I really expect? It was a bit different reading a captive/captor story with the captive being male, but I think the author did an incredible job with it. I had the same capacity for compassion for Josh as I would for a female captive.

“Gives me chills, Liv. Every damned time. Your beauty isn’t just an experience for the eyes. It breathes through the ears and evokes a reaction so consummating it claims the soul.”

At 52%, even with all of the revelations about Liv, I had more sympathy for Van than for her. I'm not saying Van is a nice guy or anything, obviously, but I can tell he's only made the best choices with horrific options. With the amount of information we receive by the end of the book, I'm even more eager to find out more details about this dude. Part of me wishes that he and Liv could have worked things out, but I understand why it's impossible. It's just that they've both done horrible things and deserve each other. Knowing that Van survived the gun shot wound inflicted by Liv made my day. I need to know how he survived and how he achieves his own happy ending. This broken man needs some redemption!

And then there's Josh... the man who definitely owned my heart in this story, right from the beginning.

“I can feel you.” He leaned back, inhaled deeply. “Inside me. Everywhere. You own me. You will always own me, and I will walk through hell to keep it that way.” Eyes on the road, her breath shivered from her lungs, cracking her voice. “You own me, too.” “I know.” He pinned her with those mesmerizing pale eyes.

This man...

“I stand here without rope or chains, Liv, tethered to you by my own will.” His blood beat with the ferocity of his words. “I won’t be free until you are.”

I have no idea if my hopes and dreams will ever be realized, but I want to see more of these people in the books to come. I know I'll be getting more Van (WOO HOO!!), but I want everyone together. I want Van to get his forgiveness from Liv, that these two work through everything and settle into some sort of friendship. I'd love to see them with their daughter, in a future of peace. I want, I want, I want. Now let's see if anything I want is out there.

Review
The first thing I thought when I saw that Pam was releasing another book was….ohhhhh I’m fangirling and gonna stalk till I get an ARC ---- especially since it was tagged as “Dark”.  I thought I was in the mood for a really dark, twisted read but I was pleasantly surprised when this story did a complete turnaround and Liv wasn’t the same character as she was in the beginning.

For a reader to be searching for a book that takes a VERY disturbing and dark subject and have the author totally switch the bitch up – search no more – this is the PERFECT book to read.  I realized about half way in that this was what I was searching for….Dark to Light….Sadness to Happiness….Sin to Redemption….Hate to Love.

Let’s switch this up girls….it’s the woman this time who is the slave trainer….it’s the woman who abuses and tortures and it’s the woman who lives her life in misery – trapped in a life she has no say in.  Pam made it easy to step in Liv’s shoes and empathize with the dilemma she lives through.  I was sucked in and captivated with each turn of the page.  I thought I had the book all figured out, but again I was surprised with the turn of events that made me love Liv more and more.

Now Van…..ahhh to love a man, to be scared of a man, to hate a man – a man obsessed, a man in love, a man abused – this is our Van – how Pam? How did you take a man who should have been despised in this story and make all the readers fall in love with him?  Granted there were times I wanted to bash his brains in….but then there were the times I just wanted to grab him, pinch his cheeks and eat him up!

What problems did I have with the book?  Well, I know that Joshua is supposed to be a God fearing – Bible quoting man….but it was a bit too much in the story.  Now don’t get me wrong – I loved how Pam tackled the subject of God and Joshua’s beliefs versus how his faith started to totter, but the beginning of the book could have had a bit less “quoting”.

Another problem I had was the ending – it just cleaned up too fast and too easy.  It just seemed a bit rushed to me.

Oh and can I tell you that the trailer for this book is FUCKING HOT!!

Re-Cap
Liv is a Deliverer – She delivers slaves to their owners after she has trained them as the perfect submissive.  The operation of training is handled between herself and Van in which they work for a mysterious man who goes by the name of Mr. E.

Liv was originally a captive herself – kidnapped by Van and trained to be a slave but things went wrong with the exchange and Liv must now work together with Van until the tight hold of Mr. E.  We find Liv stalking a college student who is a football star and studying to be a minister, this is personal for Liv; there is something about Joshua that calls to her; something more than just a trainer searching for slave material.

Joshua is suddenly thrown into a situation which will test his faith and his will to live.  He must choose between breaking God’s commandments in order to survive or to stand his ground.  Slowly Joshua fights against Liv and tries to break down the many masks she uses to hide her true feelings.  Joshua can feel that there is something special about Liv and he refuses to give up on her which leads him to try and submit and do what is necessary.

They slowly build a trust between them and then when you think everything is going perfectly with the plan……Oh wait – sorry – read the book!

Wrap-Up

Wow! I wasn't sure what to think about this switch in roles. I have read so many captor/slave books where the women are abducted and forced into human trafficking, but not Deliver.

Liv is the Deliverer she is their mistress and trains them to the client's specifications before their sale. She is bold, hard and refuses to fail. There is always a force driving us and Liv has her's, the reason she cannot fail.

Joshua Carter is the All-American football player, he has lived a sheltered life and always followed his parents rules. So despite being gorgeous, a successful athlete and all around perfect guy, he is a virgin. His virginity makes him the perfect candidate for Liv.

Josh is a unique character and just a great guy, when he looks at Liv he sees beyond her facade and knows she is hurting. He wants to know what's driving her. Even while he is the slave he wants to free her.

I see all of you. I claim every jagged piece of you.

This book is a crazy quick read and honestly had me completed twisted up. Deliver has the perfect amount of angst to keep you turning the page anticipating how things would play out. Furthermore, the twists and turns, it was complete unpredictable. Seeing these characters develop and grow, the epic conclusion, I LOVED IT! Pam Godwin is so unique in her ability to write a story that's suspenseful, romantic and sexy as sin.

'She was a deliverer, a killer, a soulless captor.'

Genre: Dark kidnap/captive romance.

Writing: 9/10
Heroine: 9/10
Hero: 10/10
Hotness: 6/10
Romance: 8/10
Ending: 9/10
Extra book Details: Dual POV. Approx pages 280. Probable sequel with side character as lead.

Liv has been watching and learning all about god-loving college linebacker, 21 year old Joshua, for weeks. He's self-assured, strong, capable, sheltered and most importantly innocent.

“I am a deliverer. I deliver the strikes that enforce your obedience.”
“I deliver the sexual training that justifies your purchase price.”
“In ten weeks, I will deliver you to be sold.”

description

Josh didn't see her trickery and followed Liv like a siren until he finds himself trapped in a building in the middle of nowhere with 'a demon in the form of the most beautiful girl on earth' and her partner in crime, a manipulative prick who goes by the name Van.

Van is twisted, Liv can't love him or hate him. He can be protective, sweet and kind, but also tormented, cruel and abusive.

'It wasn't until she'd met him that she'd understood the meaning of coerced consent.'

Unfortunately, Josh isn't like the other slaves, he 'doesn't fit the hostage mold' and can't be trained the same way, or maybe not at all. He looks for the best in people and has a hopeful heart. He's trusting, charming, confident, brave and patient.

'He represented purity, beauty, family, all of the things that had been taken from her. He was a glimmer of goodness in her dark fucking world, a warm spark she could hold, if only for a fleeting span of time.'

description

Liv's training turns Josh's world upside down, his faith in humanity and his emotions are tested, he's becoming stubborn, fierce and determined. He's fallen into hatred, jealousy and violence. And he wants to save Livs soul.

'He flailed between hating her, wanting her, fighting her, and praying for her. And through it all was the incessant urge to screw her.'

I could write so much more on this book, there's a lot in it, but I don't want to make my review too long or spoilerish.

I'm a total sucker for; role reversal romances, dark books with more imagination than others, virgin males, kick-ass females, gritty romances, love/hate and a good domme/sub story. 'Deliver' mixed a load of my favourite themes and would be a re-read. So this book is a 5 star read for me, but it might be less for other readers.

I have to say, I loved the characters, there was plenty of depth to them. Josh was a pretty wonderful human being. Liv turned out awesome in her own way, she was very brave, strong and clever. I actually kind of liked Van too, or maybe it was more that I felt sorry for him despite his twisted ways.

I liked how their relationship progressed and turned around. Though the time frame for it was short in the actual book days, it didn't feel like it to me because of the amount of pages that I went past.

Pam Godwin's writing was intelligent, intricate and creative and so was the storyline, it turned out very unique. It also is written very erotically at times. I thought the revelations were fantastic, I didn't predict any of it which was pretty awesome for me. It got it dark and twisted enough to pack a punch.

'He stretched out his arms, savoring the cool breeze brushing over his unrestrained skin.
“I stand here without rope or chains, Liv, tethered to you by my own will.”
His blood beat with the ferocity of his words.
“I won't be free until you are.”'

MY RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3.75-Stars! (pushed to 4 on GR)

A captive romance, HEA, with a fantastic plot twist!

"He represented purity, beauty, family, all of the things that had been taken from her. He was a glimmer of goodness in her dark fucking world, a warm spark she could hold, if only for a fleeting span of time." ~Liv

This is the second novel by Miss Godwin that I have read (the other being "Knotted" Trails of Sin series which is phenomenal), this one didn't 'WOW' me but it was entertaining enough to finish.

PROS:

🔥 - Without spoiling it, the novel had a fantastic plot twist which engaged me enough to read through it. This was the sole reason I pushed the rating to a 4-Star, otherwise it definitely would have only been a solid 3-Star!

🔥 - Loved the characters: Liv, Van and Joshua. Would've liked more Van and his background of craziness. He is the main character in the sequel to this novel but I still wanted more of Van in this one.

🔥 - Kudos to Miss Godwin for some smart, intricate details such as Joshua's jersey number (which I can't explain without spoiling it).

🔥 - Enjoyed that the antagonist, Joshua, was a submissive hero which isn't easy to pull off.

CONS:

☠️ - The novel definitely dragged at parts and I ended up reading another book when I started getting bored with this one. There was no urgency or momentum forward, so I felt the constant need for the story to move faster which it didn't and I would end up putting it down for a few days.

☠️ - The POV chapters were SO frustrating! The chapters were not labeled whose POV was occurring so it actually took a second read over to figure out who was speaking or whose POV it was. To add to the confusion and frustration the chapters were written in both 1st and 2nd person, yikes!

☠️ - Needed a better background of Joshua's character and his feelings. He had a natural penchant for masochism and submission but only touched briefly on why.

BOTTOM LINE:
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - It's so-so. "Deliver" is nothing to write home about nor would I highly recommend BUT the story and plot are definitely unique and interesting. It had serious potential! If you haven't read one of Miss Godwin's novel, I would suggest skipping this and reading "Knotted".

4 DELIVERED STARS! ★★★★

“You said you freed me, but freedom isn't defined by chains or walls. You, alive, with me. That's my freedom.”

Well that was some intense, crazy ride! I have to admit it was a refreshing read, being my first time reading a female captor story. Honestly, I entered into some new dangerous territories reading a couple of the gritty stuffs in this book.

*******

Deliver opens up to Liv Reed, known as the deliverer and works with her partner, Van to abduct victims and train them into sex slaves. These sex slaves are trained to fit certain requirements for their buyers & once the training is completed, they are "delivered" to their buyers.

Liv's latest capture involves Joshua Carter, a virginal football star who helps out with his parents' farm & working towards a ministry degree. Being the kind-hearted soul that he is, he falls into Liv's trap while offering her a ride home one night.

Will Liv be able to break Josh with her training? Or will it be Josh that breaks Liv out from the chains binding her?

********

This book is definitely not for the faint-hearted ones; it was dark, gritty and rather disturbing. There were scenes that was so intense which had my heart racing and also scenes that made my head spin or had my stomach turned. I definitely pushed myself to new limits reading certain scenes I've never encountered before & thankfully I survived reading them! Although there are times that I felt like I needed to take a break or have a drink after reading through.

As mentioned, I found Liv's character to be quite refreshing being a female captor. However, for the first 30% of the book, I found myself having a difficult time connecting to her. I was quite confused and she kept throwing me off with her aloofness. I wanted to like her but I couldn't understand her! But moving on later when her past slowly unravels, she started growing on me & I could finally understand what her true intentions were.

“She was stolen innocence, following the rules of monsters. Somewhere along the way, she’d become one.”

Well I'm surprised by Josh's character for sure. For a devout Christian virginal boy, the development in his character was an interesting one to read. I was quite amazed by his never-ending lack of faith and his determination to save both himself and Liv. However, I did find some difficulty believing the pace of these two forming a strong connection & how quickly for Josh to place his trust in her.

“I stand here without rope or chains, Liv, tethered to you by my own will. I won’t be free until you are.”

And of course, there's Van. I can definitely see why everyone has been so captivated by him ;) He was an enigma of sorts in this book; beneath his tough exterior and disturbingly creepy fetishes, there was so much more to him than I expected. Despite his messed-up self, I was still drawn to him.

The story as a whole was definitely a page-turner with non-stop suspense. I couldn't anticipate what was to come & it definitely captured my attention throughout the entire book. There were also numerous twists & turns I didn't see coming and I genuinely enjoyed the intensity that this book offered.

That being said, Pam Godwin definitely delivered an enthralling, suspenseful dark read, plus the erotica element was also well executed for me. I'm definitely looking forward to reading Van's story in the next one & get to know more of him!

3 stars

tbh i expected more. but, it was disgustingly dark and good and it delivered on the title, so... i guess this was interesting.

Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

the chemistry between the main characters was lacking a bit? bc i wasn't really feeling the characters' pain till halfway through the book (i'm sadistic like that, i know 😬🥺😌). fr tho, the only time i was truly feeling anything was when Van begged and manipulated and seduced and taunted, lol (okay, sue me, he was a sexy would-be rapist psychopath, but i liked him, okay?? i just saw something in him 🥰)

❝When I dispose of your body, no one will ever find it.❞ His voice dropped to a chilling rasp. ❝You know why?❞
Her heart sped up, increasing the throb above her eye. She held her muscles as motionless as her glare.
❝Because no on will care enough to search for it.❞ He angled over the plates and hocked a foaming bubble of spit on one of the sandwiches. ❝Clean up your face.❞ His smirk flared the bruise around her heart. ❝You look more like a slave than your little cunt boy.❞ He grabbed an unsoiled sandwich, sat at the table, and dug into the roast beef.

i mean, tell me you can't see potential in this?? 🥺💕 there's so much wrong in this quote and sentence and ME-

Liv and Josh were pretty multi-dimensional main characters, which i liked, but then there was the fact that i couldn't really feel them till the second half, which was a bummer.

but when i did (finally!) it truly became GOOD.

❝I can feel you.❞ He leaned back, inhaling deeply. ❝Inside me. Everywhere. You own me. You will always own me, and I will walk through hell to keep it that way.❞

the vibess ✨ that was intense. and holy shit, some twists were really great and i was literally 👀 bc i wasn't expecting a few things! but, again, some i was. it was all so very convoluted, ahh.

basically, i loved the atmosphere of this, but not its execution too much. still, i guess i would recommend it for dark romance loving people (like, really dark, check triggers, ppl!!) - it's almost a must-have, bc this was depraved. it has so much potential 🥺 so i'm eager to start with the next book!

plus, it's Van's book, but i'm just hoping he'll get over his obsession with Liv bc i feel like he's a real possessive hero 😌 and it'd be sm fun to watch it unfold in the next book.
