November 2017 Review:

This was an incredible read. The story was really amazing. I read this book two years back, and I loved it. However, this second time made me appreciate the story even more. I have always been a fan of student-teacher relationship books. I blame it on Ezra for the PLL TV series for that. Anyways, I really loved the characters because they did not get together until after she got her graduation certificate. Alex has been through a lot through her life: she lost her dad, her h

Lessons in Love—what a surprise book! I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would, and I want to recommend it to every reader who is a sucker for high school love, pretty and popular cheerleaders and hot, handsome and compassionate math teachers. Okay, forget about the math part! Lessons in Love is a good young adult romance book. Treat yourself with a story of an intelligent student who is hiding her true identity and a teacher who unveils her secret.

I really like the taboo "falling in love with the teacher" stories :)
I love that the main character Alex, isn't the stereotypical dumb blonde, even tho she's head cheerleader :)
I loved the story of something tragic holding back Alex from properly living her life, and while I sympathise with her, this is a big part of the story. Thankfully she has help to pull herself out of herself, and help with the path to a better future.
Well written, and lovely story.

So, I received this as an ARC, and normally, because in appreciate authors taking their time to send me their hard work, if it's negative I won't post a review. But this one was just too bad to pass on.

Normally, I don't ever quote books. Usually I can't find or don't remember quotes from particular books, but this one had quite a few gems.

I absolutely loved this story! Even when I was annoyed with Alex for lying all the time, I could understand and sympathize with her reasons. Not many people could have experienced a trauma of the magnitude that Alex had and come out of it with their psyches intact. The description of this event brought tears to my eyes, and the true-to-life characterizations of the “mean girls” and the jocks had me wandering down the halls of my own high school once again. I downloaded this book because it was free and had good reviews, and I'm not disappointed at all. It's the first of a series of 3 and I will buy book 2 next week.
It's a really sweet story about an 18 year old that went through a huge trauma and is trying to start over in her new school, pretending to be someone completely different from who she was.
Her disguise won't last long after her new math teacher put her on detention and slowly discovers her secret.

I can't say I madly loved this book, but I actually liked it. I must say I've always had a thing for teacher-student stories since forever so I get quite excited every time if get to read some story like this.
It's not the typical story,it's actually not purely a love story but a story about a confused teenager who tries to get on her own too feet as she gets over all what she lost when her father died.
It's easy to read and the story is really fast and likeable, I must say I couldn't put it down

Seeing Alex having to hide are true self was sad. Alex lost her father when she was 14, along with loosing her father, she also lost everything she loved. Alex changed her was to fit in with people at school. Only her senior year, when a hot new math teacher comes in and see's that Alex is more then a pretty cheerleader. Helping her realize she can go to college, Alex drops cheerleaderin' and speeds after noons with Mark and other teachers. Only they fall in love with each other, want to stay ba ...more

I liked Alex right away and could identify with much of what she went through, her tough times, desire to keep her true self hidden. Some of it was a bit silly, but most very well written. I couldn't wait to read the next book, Letters of Love, which I did. Easy read and easy 5 stars. ...more

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

This story was very different from other books that I have read and that kept my interest until the end. Alex is 18 years old and a senior in high school. She is head cheerleader at her high school and maintains a persona that fits with what she thinks people expect of her. In reality she is not being her true self, but she fears that if her friends and classmates find out that she lives in a trailer park that she will be ostracized.

Alex is the main character in this book. She is a senior in high school and is the captain of the cheerleaders. She puts forth this persona of being a mean girl but in reality she's just trying to fit in and escape her life. Something horrible happened to Alex when she was 14 and it altered her life. She witnessed her father's murder and it changed everything. Alex went from living in an affluent neighborhood and attending private school where she was really smart, to living in a trailer park wh ...more

Life can be a fleeting moment and it can change in a heartbeat, you can go from having everything to having nothing at all. That's what happened to Alexandra Herron when her dad was shot in a wrong place, wrong time shop hold-up. After he died her family lost everything as he had died leaving debt behind. Alex had to leave her private school life and flash house and move to a trailer park with her mum and brother and attend public school. Here she decided to re-invent herself and become Alex Her ...more

Lessons in Love, the first book I've read from this author, was an incredibly pleasant read. I loved everything about it. The length, how it wasn't too long but also not too short, how the details weren't too much but were just enough, how the characters had a balance of admirable characteristics and flaws. Realistic, and although there are many books out there with the Student-Teacher storyline, I love how this author took it and changed it into something a lot more. Fantastic ending, valuable ...more

This was not the typical romance book I am used to reading, but I found myself truly enjoying it.
This story was mainly about Alex, a popular cheerleader, dealing with identity issues and trying to deal with a traumatic event that happened in her past.
Then there is Mark Simmons the math teacher who sees underneath Alex's facade.
He helps Alex see that her education matters more then all the high school drama and that its never too late to achieve your goals. He also helps tutor Alex and during t

Love is definitely the theme of this book, and although this book could come across as just a sweet coming of age book in the beginning, it is not. It definitely has a nice HEA but it has real life problems for a girl that has been handed a tough set of cards in life, and lessons in love and growth and dreams. Enjoyable easy read and will be reading the next in the series.

Short but strong

The taboo of teacher student relationship, I agree, is frowned upon. However, this book blurs the line to almost non existent and was an honest, sweet and respectable depiction of human love. I enjoyed this book and am excited to continue on Alex's journey.
