The Daddy Dilemma

Widower Abel Borgard has his hands full raising twins and establishing a homestead. Mercy Newell's offer to care for his son and daughter seems like the perfect solution. This was a hard book for me to rate, as I waited about a week or so to actually write a review. I had to let it percolate a little in the ol' brain.

First off, I started this book directly after reading a not so good novel with poor characterization and some unbelievable dialogue and prose. Opening this novel to find a good voice and intriguing characters was a breath of fresh air. Unfortunately, that didn't last. My major problem was the SEVERAL 180's the characters pulled on each other. Katy Pe

Another amazing Cowboys of Eden Valley book. This one finds us with Mercy Newell determined that she will join a Wild West show now that both of her friends are married. Then a widower moves onto the ranch and needs help with his children while he builds a cabin before winter. Soon Mercy starts questioning if a Wild West show will be enough for her because she's rather enjoying being with Abel and his two children. But Abel seems to have trouble trusting her and soon she realizes that she must l ...more

I love Abel and his affection for his children, and the pace of his relationship with Mercy made sense. That said, it felt like there was too much repetition - too many similar events, which made the book itself feel too long.

I did enjoy this book, but had no problems putting it down. That's the ONLY reason I gave it 3 stars. Good story, but the repetition of some arguments grew tiresome. I get it; she felt ignored by her family while he felt betrayed by his former wife. How many times did this need repeated?

Linda Ford grew up devouring books and making up stories in her head—often late at night when she couldn't sleep. But she hadn't planned to write. Instead, she dreamed of running an orphanage. In a way, that dream came true. She married, had four homemade children, adopted ten and lived (at times, endured) the dream.

Writing first took her to non-fiction human-interest articles for newspapers and
