A day in the life of your tiny tot:
It's crammed, slammed, stuffed, and slathered with excitement.
No wonder, the "Big Day" for Migs is similarly full of big-deal, little-kid, monumental-yet-playful drama.
In fact, as you'll discover, Migs even comes up with a super plan.
Between the wacky ideas and the zany (yet weirdly believable) illustrations, I'd say, "Sure. Yes. You win, Jo Hodgkinson. FIVE STARS to you. And now, may I please take a little nap?"

Today, we’re going to read “A Big Day for Migs!” by Jo Hodgkinson, which is about a mouse who is shy on his first day of school. Migs decides to be brave, but when he does, something terrible happens and he has to find a way to make it up to his friend. What would you do if you broke something that belonged to a friend? How would you make it up to him? Today we’ll find out how Migs solves all of these problems.

Foreshadow the problem of the story.
Raise interest in a topic or theme.
Invite personal connections.

“A Big Day for Migs” is a good fit for my “Feelings” text set because it addresses different emotions (shyness, embarrassment) and shows how kids could help a friend when they’ve made a mistake. Students would enjoy seeing how Migs works through his problems and connect to the unfortunate situations he finds himself in.

This is a good book about manners and how to be a good friend at school. It is best for ECE level readers because of its preschool setting, rhyming, and sing-songy feel.
