Elegant and beautiful, Andy Boerger's verse and illustrations manage to capture the sense of wonder that should pervade a child's world. This book reminds me of Watterson's Calvin and Hobbes and Milne's Pooh books, profound, sophisticated, and yet simple. The combination is not easy to pull off. Meg's interaction with the world is rendered with absolute grace. Two pages are particularly poignant as she stands, overwhelmed by the adults looming above her. Instead of feeling diminished, she grows tall by comprehending the perspective of her ferret. This book is filled with such insight. Mr Boerger has produced an absolute gem, which is, after all and as she realizes, Meg spelled backward.
