"Sometimes...you come to a bend in the road. You have to bend along with it, or you'll break." Words to live by. Certainly for Sylvie Minkoff, who learned them from the loving grandmother who raised her. Through hard work and perseverance, Sylvie achieves success in business, and settles into family life in the Chicago suburbs, where she can indulge two of her favorite passions: a love of horseracing at nearby Arlington International and a talent for knitting, both gifts from her beloved grandmother. Sylvie meets a pair of kindred spirits in Nina Lurie and Viv Reynolds and when she accepts their invitation to join a knitting circle, Sylvie finds friends with whom she shares confidences, the occasional cocktail, and hours of joyful knitting. When one of the women falls victim to a violent crime, shock and horror quickly descend into grief and uncertainty. How well did they really know their friend? Desperate to unravel the mysteries and unanswered questions haunting them, the surviving friends uncover a series of stunning revelations. A unique blend of mystery and emotion, murder and salvation SILKS AND STITCHES is an engrossing exploration of how life's twists and turns challenge us, and shape, not only the people we become, but those around us. It is, by turns, smart, sassy and suffused with ages-old wisdom passed from one generation to the next.

I accidentally left this book at a friends house and it took me a few weeks to get it back. The characters and story line stayed with me during that time and I'd find myself thinking about them and wondering about the outcome. When a book can engage the reader to the extent that they stay invested in the work while not reading it, is to me the sign of very good writing.

Silks and Stitches is a charming and engaging look into the power and depth of relationships. Ms. Sergi’s refined character development encourages us as readers to consider where we find significance in our own lives. Sylvie’s adoration of her grandmother and love of knitting, captures the meditative pleasure of family traditions. Nina, Viv and Sylvie make us laugh, inspire us to take risks, and demonstrate the unwavering potency of friendship. Combined with being a heartwarming account of life, it is also an exciting mystery peppered with witty repartee. This entertaining read was captivating and I look forward to reading more from this aspiring author!
