First of all thanks to Suresh pranjali who introduced karnali to nepali readers. In economics there is a saying "Greater demand increases the value" .Readers love tragedy and writers are providing it.Tuin provides us the tragic scenario of Karnali region in maoist war period through the protagonists story Bhumiraj. If you have loved "Muglan" , you ll feel the story is somehow similar but in different geographical region, different era and circumstances. At least I felt that.I loved "Karnali Blues" because that was the first time I read about karnali and this story digs more about Karnali which is heart touching.

Synopsis
Bhumiraj is a guy from a poor family whose elder brother is taken from a maoist for maoist war purposes and the family suffers from armies because of that from both side.He is a good guy who has a wish to make his village a prosperous place. his academics is good, however he looses his family one by one(his mom because of diorrhea, father while crossing karnali in a rope(we name it tuin), his sister when she was pregnant on the way to hospital ) and finally when maoist try to take him for the war also ,he runs away ,and his escape story starts. how it ends?....well for this read the book

what's good in it?
he has pointed out every incident that happened in karnali during the war. and some happening now as well. The region is the most backward that all nepali know.but how much if you want to know this book is a mirror.thats how they live. thats how they fight for rice. the smoothness in the writing touched me the most .that was my first suresh pranchali's read and this book made me curious about ..OK..what else he has written.

What I did not like?
I wont say its bad because people have different perspectives. I have heard news from there everyday but all this incidents ..can this happen in one single family?(I guess the probability is too less) may be two or three protagonists..I would have believed OK..that can happen. and the end That put me "OFF" a bit. we all know what happened in maoist war.but writers provide some books with optimism and solution( at least for me)

All in all , I wont say I dint like it, literary I liked it.It grabbed me because I finished it in a shot, went into my blood like a drugs and in some incidents I felt like not reading because i dint want that incident to happen.writer brought the sympathy to Bhumiraj through his writing. a great success. I wish him good luck with his upcoming books as well. Read Once, a nice book.

A must read for Nepali but it is not easy read at all. I have no idea why I expected the book to be different when I picked it.

The book is full of suffereing till the very end. I was deeply saddeneded and wanted some sort of positive end, just to come out of my own sadness, which isn't offered in the book.

But what right do I have to put such a hope in a book when I know that was the reality? Story of a boy in Karnali in midst of inhuman civil war, what else can I expect?

Why shouldn't I suffer while reading the story when thousands actually had to live that life?

This book revolves around a Jumli boy who faces a constant test of hardship in his life due to the undeveloped topology as well as the ongoing military revolution. I somewhere felt like the writer had described the sorrows too much and overused the metaphor of tears and hearts in some parts but I should also say that it is what carries the story forward. Although I pictured myself as a 14/15 year old high school student of a certainly favored area than the narrator so the question raised by him justifies his thoughts and dreams. It would have been great if the writer had depicted the landscape properly or more vividly so that we could have had the real sense of Jumla. Although containing handful of tragic situations it is a light read which can be finished in a couple of sittings.

It is a wonderful book of a teenager who wants to study and make his future bright but circumstances make him leave his home and travel to somewhere without destination. I think its a book of romance, war and interest. It is a book which shows the real lifestyle of Nepali. A great and addicting book indeed!!!!
