* Thank you to the author for a copy of this ARC

"Today, after my shift, I stopped by the museum to check on her with a peace offering compliments of Kate Ballantine. A rooibos for Constance... and a matcha for me. What can I say? The taste grew on me."

This book was so so so good. It was absolutely adorable and I actually read it all in one sitting. I loved the characters and the plot from start until finish.

I really enjoyed how refreshing the FMC was and how relatable her character felt. You don't come across tall, socially awkward, perfectionist female characters very often, and I love Evie so much for having such relatable characters in her books. The depth to the characters was mind blowing too! 🤯

You get:
• Sweet Romance
• Hilarious Banter
• Sizzling Kisses
• Swoony Charcters
• Deep Plot
• Mystery Aspect

I can't wait to pick up another one from Evie soon! This one is available on KU, ebook and paperback. Go get yours now! 🏃‍♀️‍➡️

"When Constance and Joe arrive at the end of the aisle, they share a tender kiss on the cheek before Joe places Constance's hand in mine, with a very fatherly, "Take care of her." "Oh, I will, sir," I say with a glimmering smile. As soon as her father is out of earshot and in his seat, she says to me quietly, "I can take care of myself." "And I'm telling you that you don't have to." Constance grins at me."

There’s a way to write a character that makes them unlikeable but intriguing, where the reader grows to like or understand them.

And there’s a way to write a character that is so very unlikeable that there’s no connection, because they aren’t a person you’d ever want to be around IRL. It’s hard to root for that person to find their HEA. That would be Constance in this book. She’s like an unpleasant old woman you’d run across on Nextdoor, demanding respect from others while not offering much back.

And this next part has no bearing on my review but -STOP CALLING IT CLEAN ROMANCE, ffs. Sex isn’t dirty. I looked up the author and she even has ‘clean romance’ in her social media NAME. What sort of sanctimonious puritanical stance is that? Check yourself.

My Star Rating: 4/5 ⭐
My Spice Rating: 1/5 🌶️

What you’ll find:
- Small Town
- Enemies to Lovers
- Opposites Attract
- Mystery
- Closed Door Romance

Digging Up Love With The Sheriff is a sweet, small-town, closed-door romance. I loved this fun mystery aspect of the story. Rory and Constance were so cute together. Rory is the town Sheriff, and Constance is the curator and historian at the town's small museum. Constance discovers some ancient bones are missing from the museum, and the Sheriff is tasked with solving the case. Rory enlists Constance to help with the case; however, they aren't exactly friends. Constance wants the missing bones back, nothing more. Rory and Constance are complete opposites - he is a city boy, and she is a small-town girl. As they spend more time together, their relationship develops into something more.

Digging Up Love With The Sheriff combines humor, mystery, and romance. The story is well-written, easy to follow, and has great characters. I recommend this book for those interested in clean, short, romantic mysteries.

Thank you, Evie Sterling and Hayling Book Storm Master ARC Team, for providing me with an e-ARC in exchange for my honest review. Opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Thank you @eviesterling.cleanromance and @haylingbookstorm for the ARC!

This reminded me so much of the TV show Bones and I loved it so much! I loved the chemistry between the two characters and how fun it was to solve a crime together.

About: This story is about a new sheriff coming into town, Rory McEvoy. Dr. Constance Chaplin works in the small town's museum where she discovered some of the bones were missing out of the display. Together, these two solve the crime of who stole the bones and more mysteries along the way.

The little town of Horace never saw this love story coming…or the crime.

Rory, a former Chicago cop turned small town Sheriff, is no match for the gorgeous Constance, a museum curator and overall badass. When a historical item is stolen from the museum Constance manages, Rory steps in to help solve the case. Little did he know, where the history goes…Constance follows.

Together they investigate this strange robbery, while accidentally “digging up love” (get the joke 😂).

This book is a cute boy meets girl in awkward situation - boy wants to help girl - but girl is damn independent - so they work together. The love story is sweet and something they both didn’t realize they needed. It is an easy read and makes you never want it to end.

I hope we hear more from Constance and Rory!

Thank you @eviesterling.cleanromance and @haylingbookstorm for the advanced copy and the opportunity to be a part of your ARC team. 🩷

This was such a cute story involving a badass main female character and adorable sheriff as the main male character. I loved how much of a spitfire Constance was and how Rory was able to handle it and love her for it.

The storyline was so fun to read and now I need a whole series of what Dr. Chaplin and (ex) Sheriff McEvoy get up to next.

If you’re looking for a clean, small town vibes romance, check this one out.

Between A Rock and a Hard Place ? . . .

Dr. Constance Chaplin, a relentless follower of rules and a stickler for compliance, is curator of the Horace Township History Museum. When bones go missing from an important irreplaceable display, she needs them found as quickly as possible for the upcoming Bicentennial celebration in 2 weeks. The new Sheriff Rory McEvoy is tasked with investigating the theft and right from the start she doesn’t “like” him because he called her “Miss” instead of “Dr.” – as if he should somehow know her title having never met her before. His next mistake was to ask if she had left the door unlocked, which had her highly offended at his questioning her competence. He is approaching this from his experience in Chicago; she is from this small town of Horace that has only one traffic light. The museum has no cameras, no security system, and only a guest book – as if the criminal would pause to sign in before the theft. Their perspectives are different enough to keep them both a bit on edge with each other. As they talked, their irritation escalating, his radio reported a 10-54… dead body? Asking for clarification, the rookie said it was actually just bones. And Constance heard that, insisting that they could be her missing bones! And even worse, she now insists on going with him to examine the bones, not at all concerned it might be a murder because those never occur in Horace! She blocks his path until he agrees that she could save him time identifying the bones. And she actually smiled when he finally gave in. This is NOT going to be the relaxing job he expected it would be.

The deer bones, mixed in with a human skeleton, were actually found at the historic Wilhelm House that had been purchased a few years ago by a businessman named Fred Frederickson. The gardener had seen a bone sticking out of the ground. Because the Sheriff refused to keep referring to her as “Dr. Chaplin”, Constance now calls him “Rory”. So Rory and Constance team up to solve the mystery of who took the bones and why they ended up here, because he won’t let her take the “evidence” away. Can he solve this theft? Will the two of them get closer as they work with each other? Or will Rory give up in frustration and walk away?

-Digging up love with the sheriff- 🥹😮‍💨

There’s a new sheriff in town. He’s tall, dark, and handsome.
And a total thorn in my side.
As town historian and curator of our tiny museum, it’s my job to preserve the past of Horace, Illinois. So when bones go missing from a prized, ancient deer skeleton, I’m on red alert.
To make matters worse, they’re discovered along with human remains across town, buried on historical property that is soon to be demolished, much to my chagrin.
At first, I’m Sheriff Rory McEvoy’s number one suspect. However, more secrets reveal I would never jeopardize my integrity or my museum.
Just because Rory enlists me to help him understand the innerworkings of our small town doesn’t mean we’re friends. I just want my bones back in time for the town’s Bicentennial Celebration.
But the more time I spend with him, the more I realize there’s more to him than his city boy persona, his corny jokes, and his dreamy brown eyes.
There’s a heart in Rory, one he doesn’t seem to show unless he trusts you. The more I see of his heart, the more I realize he trusts me.
I can’t seem to stop smiling.
And I don’t smile for just anyone.

Digging Up Love With the Sheriff is a standalone contemporary romance by Evie Sterling. Sterling is a new author to me but the blurb had me interested.

The story follows Constance Chaplin, she has a PhD in history from Cambridge Uni, however, her father's illness has brought her back to her home town in rural/regional Illinois. Despite the circumstances she loves her town and she loves her work. The story starts when bones are stolen from her museum and brings the new sheriff, Rory McEvoy, into her life. Rory left Chicago because he needed a change of scenery and was able to run for local sheriff uncontested. He's taken to small town life, but this new case is baffling.

Between stolen bones, bones appearing elsewhere in town and an entire mystery surrounding how this all connects together, Rory and Constance play off each other. They have a kind of friendly rivalry, I wouldn't call it enemies to lovers, but it is a feisty and heated attraction between two passionate people that want to solve the mystery.

Personally, I find it cringey that Constance insists on being called Dr, and took my mind out of the book. However, that is completely on me, as someone who has a PhD and only use the title in my work email signature. Yet, I really did enjoy Constance's spunk, she was a wonderful contrast to Rory and that made the attraction between them feel right. This is a clean romance, with only a couple of kisses, so fair warning if you go into this book wanting spice between the main characters.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. This is book 2 in the Sweet Spring Kisses but can be read as a complete standalone. The book's blurb gives you an idea of what to expect. Digging Up Love With The Sherrif is told through Constance and Rory's pov and is a good opposites attract romance.

Constance is passionate about being the town historian and museum curator. Though the museum and town is tiny, the Bicentennial Celebration always draws a crowd so when bones, for one of the main attractions, goes missing, Constance will not stop until they are found. Coming from a big city and newly appointed sheriff, Rory isn't used the small town cases and his nonchalant attitude rubs Constance the wrong way. But, as more clues keep appearing, Rory becomes more dedicated to the case and trying to make Constance smile.

Because of their different personalities, their romance was a slow burn. At times, Constance came off too strongly but I think readers will like how she knows and speaks her mind. She's not scared of holding back. Meanwhile, Rory has a more laidback take but it's for a good reason that Constance learns and begins to see him in a new light. I liked the partnership they developed as they worked on the case together and how it led to their feelings changing. Their romance is a clean one consisting of only sweet kisses and no cursing was used. While it was fun to see their romance begin, I was just as interested if not more in finding out the mystery behind the stolen bones. It will keep you guessing and questioning the townsfolk. Overall, this small town romance is perfect for those who like lighthearted cozy mystery romance stories.

Two unlikely people find themselves trying to unravel a perplexing mystery in a small town and find love in the process.

Constance finds bones missing from the main attraction at the museum she runs and calls the cops. The new sheriff arrives and doesn’t take the matter as serious as she’d like. Then he gets a call of a skeleton being found at a historic building that people from out of town have bought. She goes with him to help in identifying the bones and finds the missing bones of her attraction in strategic places in the skeleton. Her bones are found but who is this skeleton and where did it come from?

The mystery deepens when it’s discovered that the new owners want to demolish the home and only wanted the property for building a new home. As Constance and Rory the sheriff dig deeper into this mystery, some other “skeletons “ from the town’s past come to light, including another strange theft that ties directly into this baffling mystery.

This was a fun cozy mystery and I highly recommend it as one I believe you’ll also enjoy! There is no violence, explicit sexual scenes or anything of the sort- just a story of two people who have been hurt romantically before and consequently have shut down any hope of having that feeling again-until they meet up in this encounter.

There are a few surprises in store for you as you read this book so be prepared to settle back and enjoy the read and take a break from the day to day gloom and doom that you’re subjected to on a daily basis from the media!

I think you’ll find you “dig” this book and will want to check out the whole series!

🦌Digging up Love with the Sheriff🦌 by #EvieSterling is a funny and mystery filled novel about finding the true culprit behind who stole the bones of the money-making deer exhibit.

** ** I would like to express my thanks to 🌟@eviesterling.cleanromance🌟 and 🌟@haylingbookstorm🌟 for providing me this ARC in exchange for an honest review. **

This book was a short and quick read that was full of outrageous situations (in a good way) and funny interactions. The small town that we were put into, Horace, Illinois, reminded me of my hometown where I grew up. Everyone knows everyone, everyone knows each other’s secrets, and if you are born there, it’s very likely that you’ll die there. For such a short book, I was surprised that there was a lot of action (in terms of the crime) where at each turn I was wondering who the real culprit was behind the entire mess. I usually try to make a prediction who the “bad guy” really was, but my guess was wayyyyy off. The reveal was super unexpected.

I think the relationship between the characters was cute and the interaction between each other at times was realistic. The FMC I felt was a realistic character in terms of meeting someone new and trusting them in terms of a new relationship (if that makes sense). I also liked the vulnerability the MMC showed which I didn’t expect! Overall I thought it was a good book 😊

I recommend this book to anyone who wants a small town romance with a mystery pushing them together.

This was a cute story. A bit of a combination of romance and cozy mystery. I enjoyed it. Constance, the head curator of small town Horace’s museum, was distressed to find some very important animal bones missing from their collection. This brought her into contact with “Rory McEvoy, county sheriff and pain-in-the-butt extraordinaire”. It wasn’t an auspicious beginning, but the two found themselves spending more time together as the bones turned up in a suspicious manner and left them with a bigger mystery to solve. The mystery was intriguing but not too intense. The romance was sweet. I enjoyed the engaging characters. Constance had never quite fit-in and often suffered “the othering gaze of the rest of Horace.” She was determined to get the museum’s bones back in time for the town’s Bicentennial celebration. “I don’t suffer fools and I don’t like to play games. Especially not when it comes to my bones.” Rory had left big city policing and become the new county sheriff, but his reasons still affected him as he tried to adjust. “It turns out running away doesn’t actually leave anything behind.” “Sometimes the things you love aren’t good for you anymore.” Initially they didn’t seem to have much in common, but somehow they just clicked. “Constance Chaplin is the most maddening woman I’ve ever met. And for some insane reason, she happens to be the woman I want most in the world. Now that’s a conflict of interest.” This is a closed door romance with mild innuendo and no harsh language.

Constance is very protective over her small town of Horace, IL, and has made a career of preserving it at the local museum she owns. Their claim of fame is the skeleton of an ancient deer, and someone has broken into the museum to steal ribs and foreleg bones of the deer. The new Sheriff in town, Rory is signed to the case, and does not take the case seriously until a body is found in a shallow grave at The Wilhelm House. A home that Constance believes should be on the National Register of Historic Places. Rory, who has the hots for Constance since walking into the museum, asks her to help him solve the case. Constance, who finds Rory to be young and a joke, hesitates but joins in on solving the case. After all, the Bicentennial Celebration is coming up and she needs her bones, but she may just find the good bone structure for a long lasting relationship.

First and foremost thank you to @haylingbookstorm and @eviesterling.cleanromance for the opportunity to be part of the ARC team! I thought this was such a cute story. The mystery definitely kept me going. I couldn't wait to figure out who did it. I adored the banter between Constance and Rory. There were parts that definitely had me laughing. The epilogue left me with a huge smile on my face. I'm starting to love small town reads!

Who doesn’t love a small town romance? Throw in a mystery, big city cop
turned small town sheriff, and a museum curator who is all business?
You have Evie Sterling’s next book!
Constance is a person who knows what works for her and what doesn’t.
A theft from her museum doesn’t work for her. The new sheriff who seems
to not be taking the theft serious doesn’t work for her. But when said
sheriff asks her to team up because she knows details, that does work for her.
Rory left the big city cop life behind hoping small town sheriff life would be
better for his health. He was not prepared for the other thing small town
life brings into his life. Especially the straight forward museum curator
who takes her bones way to seriously. When they decide to team up, the investigation ramps up, as do other things between these two.
If you are looking for a clean romance that moves at a good pace, this book
will not disappoint. If you are needing a book to cure a book hangover,
this book is perfect for you. If you are wanting a book to cozy up with on a rainy
day, this book is calling you. Evie Sterling brings another wonderful book to her
readers that is full of heart, smart, and laugh out loud moments.

⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5
Clean romance (so no spice)

“Constance Chaplin is the most maddening woman l've ever met. And for some insane reason, she happens to be the woman I want most in the world. Now that's a conflict of interest.”

Constance is an independent woman and a bit of a quirky grump, she went back to her hometown to help care for her dad. Rory is the new sheriff in town, who’s the opposite from grumpy and a little social awkward at times.

This book was a fun read, had me wondering who was behind the bizarre case. I liked that it was a small town setting as i’m a sucker for small town romances! I loved how passionate Con is about her job and town. Definitely a bit of a slow burn but i overall really enjoyed the book.

REVIEW - DIGGING UP LOVE WITH THE SHERIFF BY EVIE STERLING

Genre Romance

Dual pov

No spoilers

I was invited to read this Arc and I'm so glad I was! Archaeology Dr, Constance, stumbles across the new Sheriff in town and to say her demeanor is frosty is an understatement! She makes the Eskimos look warm! Together they unexpectedly embark on uncovering a town mystery which draws them closer together.

This book has many elements, we see Connie's frosty exterior, but we also see beyond that into her life with her dad and her sad past. We learn of the reason the Sheriff left the big city and arrived in the small town where he decides to lay roots.
We feel their persistence as a team and Connie's deep rooted, hysterical love for the town. This book is cute!

Congratulations @eviesterling.cleanromance
On a beautiful story

Constance is curator of a small museum in the town of Horace , Illinois . There’s a new sheriff in town , all the way from Chicago, Rory Mcevoy has her in his sights…as suspect when one of the museum’s oldest prized display’s items goes missing and is found among human remains across town. He’s already a bane of existence for Constance albeit a very handsome one. Eventually persuaded , Rory is aided in his investigation by Constance and the ice melts as they spend time together and she even cracks a smile. Time ( excuse pun) is of the essence,if they hope to retrieve the ancient bones before the Bicentennial celebrations . A great story , brilliant chemistry, humour and mystery a little bit of history and a swoon romance. Very well written with good narratives and great characters with super descriptors. Entertaining storytelling. I read a forwarded copy and I’m leaving my review voluntarily and in my own words

This book uses a lot of language that has a happy quirky vibe. That coupled with such a wacky mystery to unsolve, it was an easy read that made me laugh and smile.

If any of you have watched the TV series Bones, I can say that Constance highly reminds me of Temperance Brennan from that series. They are both quite straightforward and value their jobs over most other things.
If you have seen my review of Evie Sterling's other recent release Anatomy of Matchmaking I will note this book has a very different tone, vibe, and even writing style.

If you're looking for a sweet and clean romance, then this book would be a perfect choice for you.

In the small town of Horace, Constance is the curator and historian at the local museum while Rory is the newly appointed town sheriff. When ancient bones are stolen from the museum, Rory is called to investigate the crime. Constance is determined to retrieve the stolen bones and the two unlikely allies join forces, although they are not exactly friends at first.

Constance is a likable and relatable person. She is straightforward, always speaks her mind, and is incredibly intelligent. On the other hand, Rory is her complete opposite, but I really like how they complement each other and how their relationship evolves throughout the book.

Digging up Love with the Sheriff by Evie Sterling is a standalone sweet romance in the Sweet Spring Kisses Series.

Constance and Rory’s story combines enemies to lovers, mystery opposites attract, small town sweet romance. I’d even maybe throw in grump/sunshine, but she’s the grump.

Constance’s life is consistent daily, until parts of the deer skeleton go missing and she meets the new Sheriff in town. There’s a little butting of heads, but slowly these two become more attracted to each other as they continue to work on the case.

However, Constance unfortunately has to be one of my least favourite FMC’s ever. I thought overtime I’d grow to like her character but I really struggled with her, which is why I had to drop my rating.

This can be read as a standalone, as each book is by a different author. I’ll be continuing with this series via KU.

I was so excited when I found out that I was selected to be a part of Evie Sterling's ARC Team for Digging Up Love With The Sheriff, through @haylingbookstorm Master ARC Team when I received the ARC.

This mystery love story follows Rory, the new Sheriff of a little quiet town an hour away from Chicago, Horace and it’s resident Dr Constance Chaplin, who works in the museum and is a professional archeologist and historian. This was a sweet story with a fun mystery twist. Constance is the curator of the local historical society and some rare bones have been stolen. Rory is the newly appointed sheriff for the county assigned to investigate. During the investigation another officer calls in a discovery of a human skeleton nearby. Constance accompanies the sheriff to the location only to discover that some of the skeletal remains are those from her museum. Even though there is no spice in this story I did enjoy their investigative process and the surprise outcome. This is a nice palate cleanser.

First, I'd like to thank Evie and her team for selecting me for an ARC copy! I was so excited to hear the news and the excitement continued as I jumped into the book!

The story follows new sheriff, Rory McEvoy, and the town's longtime resident and museum curator, Dr. Constance Chaplin as they unravel a mystery in their small town. They're reluctant allies, opposite in most every way, but make an incredible team. As the investigation progresses, so do their feelings for one another. Rory's boyish-charm and good looks work their magic on headstrong, independent Constance and a sweet romance unfolds.

Thank you so much for the ARC of this book and allowing me to review it! 🫶🏼

Rory McEvoy is the new Sheriff in town and Dr. Constance Chaplin needs his help finding the bones that went missing at the museum she works at.

At first Rory and Constance get off on the wrong foot and don’t seem to really like each other but this very quickly changes when they have to help each other in order to solve the mystery of the missing bones.
I also really liked the close knit community of the town and how everybody knew each other.

I’d definitely recommend this book if you’re looking for a cute and quick read or a clean romance book with a little bit of mystery.

Digging Up Love With The Sheriff is out on February 22nd so definitely check it out!

At first I was not really invested in the book but then cute banter between Sheriff McEvoy and Constance begin and I was totally there for it. I enjoyed watching their relationship develop into something more and just wanted to hurry up and get to those parts. OMG THE END !!!! I was sooooo excited that it ended that way and loved that Evie chose that for them because it made my heart so happy to see that. I was NOT expecting it but definitely was HOPING for it. I am looking forward to reading her others books in the future. ♥️

The book as a little hard to read because of all the sophisticated language that I am not use to in books but overallI enjoyed reading it and couldn’t put it down. 👮🏻‍♂️🦴🦌🕵🏻‍♀️

4 stars for Digging Up Love With The Sheriff!

Pros:
Constance is a focused, non nonsense type of woman. She is passionate and serious when it comes to her work.

I loved Rory's bad jokes. There was something just so endearing about how he tried and always got shut down.

Quick read with a slow burn! This book held my attention with the mystery that Rory and Constance were trying to solve as well as the slow connection that formed between them.

Cons:
In terms of the crime they were investigating, I was hoping for something a bit more exciting than what we got. Some parts of it were a bit predictable.

If you want a sweet, clean romance with a bit of a mystery thrown in, this is a perfect book for you!

This was a fun sweet read. Constance runs a historical museum in a small town. When some bones are stolen from her main archaeological attraction she calls on the sheriff for help. Rory is used to working on more serious cases in Chicago but he moved to a small town to start over. He can’t help but be attracted by the brains and beauty of Constance. Together they work to solve the mystery and fall for each other while doing so. This is a quick read. With quirky fun characters that you can’t help but fall in love with. Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Hope there are more to come in this series. I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
