4.5 out of 5 stars for Land of My Dreams, a contemporary Christian Romance, by debut author Norma Gail.

Land of My Dreams by Norma Gail

I truly enjoyed this book with its sweeping vistas from New Mexico to Scotland and even to Afghanistan. I was hooked as soon as I started reading, finding myself able to relate to both Bonny, who is running away from her past, and Kieran, who cannot break free of his past. Sometimes, I do not always care for either the heroine or the hero in a Christian romance, but that certainly wasn't the c

I'm the writer's cousin. Well, our grandmother's were sisters, you figure that out. Not only that, I'm an engineer much more comfortable with an Aubrey-Maturin novel or a James Michener tome in my lap, not to mention Stephen King. To me, romance books were those things with Fabio on the cover that I never bothered to pick up.

Not this one.

I can identify with a professor in New Mexico, having been one in Colorado, and making a decision to try something different someplace else for a year. You just

A few nights ago, my husband and I went out for dinner to a new restaurant. The food was delicious, prepared perfectly and plated with flair. Days have passed, and I’m still thinking about the meal, and smiling.
That sums up how I feel about Land of My Dreams. It leaves a rich satisfaction that stayed with me for days after finishing the book. I enjoyed all the characters, especially Kieran and Bonny as they faced their challenges. And I have a new-found fascination with Scotland and their quain

I really enjoyed reading this book. It is set in Scotland and the way the author describes it, it is just like I had actually been there.
The struggles many of us face, as Christians are often swept under the rug under a huge weight of condemnation that usually sounds a little something like "if your faith were stronger ... you wouldn't be struggling so much..."
I have always bristled at that stance and it has in fact had me running my own marathon away from God at times. It has taken many years a

I had many reasons to read this book. First, a friend asked me to check it out. Second, I’m a Christian. Third, my DIL is from New Mexico. Fourth, we are a military family with teaching in our hearts. Last, Scotland is on my bucket list of places I want to visit. It didn’t take me long to become addicted.

I love the intricacies of the character’s personalities. You can feel the hurt and disappointment that life has handed Bonny & Kieran. You can also feel the compassion those around them show

Reading Christian romance is always a pleasure, as you know the scenes will not be overly explicit. Author Norma Gail comes through, yet still manages to fill “Land of My Dreams” with many sigh-worthy scenes that will nourish a romantic heart without offending one’s Christian values.

Set in beautiful Scotland, this novel fills a reader’s mind with scenes of the lovely countryside, described in such detail that a reader feels they are there. The characters are both charming and flawed, suffering

As a debut novel, this one is wonderful. It grips your heart--whether it's the romance or whether it's the descriptions of Scotland.

Two people, reeling from hurt and disillusionment.

First Bonny Bryant's mother and then her father had died within months of each other, and immediately following, her fiance dumped her. She and her father had come up with a history curriculum before he had passed, and she had been offered a position at Fort William Christian College in Scotland.

I absolutely enjoyed reading "Land of My Dreams". I confess, I was suppose to keep up with my cousin in reading this book, but I could not stop reading, so, I do not know where she is in these pages of this most delightful book, But I will tell you that once I picked it up, I did not want to put it down, Since she is on vacation, I have not heard from her, but I am sure she feels the same way. I do hope the author writes a sequel. I am waiting in a hopeful mood. Just incase, it was a wonderful r ...more

A beautiful story of healing and redemption! Land of My Dreams drew me in more and more the farther I read. I knew I'd love the Scottish and New Mexico settings, but I also grew to know and love the main characters, Bonny and Kieran, and was moved and ministered to in ways I didn't even expect by their struggles and journey of learning to trust God despite, and even through, trials and heartache. A line one character speaks to another has come back to me multiple times: "Just because you can't s ...more

Land of My Dreams was a treat.

Not often do I find a romance with interesting plot lines, intriguing characters, and un-preachy spirituality combined with adventure in the Scottish Highlands.

Bonny lost all those dear to her inside six months. Then her fiancé left with another woman. She cannot face her best friend's wedding to the love of her life. Bonny takes a teaching position in the Highlands, hoping to escape memories and build a new life. She meets a troubled professor and finds love bloo

Norma Gail's Land of My Dreams is a delightful page turner. The characters are easily likeable and we are able to identify very well with their struggles both individually and as a couple. It is fun learning the Scottish language and learning more intimate details about New Mexico's way of life and traditions not to mention the landscape (we don't often identify New Mexico with mountains). I only wish I had seen the Scottish words and definitions in the back of the book earlier in my reading but ...more

I am currently over half way through this book and am enjoying it thoroughly.

Norma is an excellent writer. Her descriptions of the different settings brings you right into the story. The juxtaposition of the two lands that Bonny loves, New Mexico and Scotland, is very interesting and ties into the story so well. In fact they are not just settings but important "characters" that add to the depth of the people we grow to care about so deeply.

And care we do. We feel Bonny's hurt. Her longing for

This is a tender love story between two broken souls, with the Author of Love wooing them back to Himself.
I'm half way through this book and loving it. Norma Gail captures your attention with beautifully vivid scenes of the Land of Enchantment (New Mexico) and Scotland - the land of green hills and blue Locs. Then, with tender details of loss, pain, and finally, renewed hope, the excitement of new love unfolds and draws you in. The Author of life and love is behind the scenes weaving together th

How refreshing to read a piece of Christian fiction and know it will stick to purity and biblical values! This novel surprised me in how many trials the main characters had to overcome. I appreciated that there was substance to it. Relationships are difficult and gritty, and I felt this offered the beauty and growth in the complexity of two people bringing their own individual baggage into a relationship. I did not know much about Scottish culture and enjoyed the vivid scenes and landscapes. I f ...more

I am loving this book. I think Norma Gail has done a superb job on this contemporary romance novel.

Well done, from the descriptions of the characters to the settings of the story.

I can see the pain in the eyes of the characters, Bonny and Kieran, as well as the sparks of hope and hesitance, as they get to know one another.

I enjoy the similarities and vast differences as she describes both Albuquerque, New Mexico and Scotland. I can see Sandia Peak in New Mexico and smell the chilies one minute

A story of wounded souls looking to find that one thing that will heal their broken hearts. Like many of us they try to control their own lives and circumstances. They forget that life isn't about waiting for storms to pass. It was so easy to identify with the characters as they walked the road of recovery. Haven't we all been there? A time when we asked why? A time when we asked Lord where are you? Norma Gail hits the nail on the head about how easy it can be to just give up and let stubborn pr ...more

Land of My Dreams is a book about deep loss and how it affects our faith in God. Her character development was wonderful and everyone reading can relate to them and their feelings of loss, confusion, anger and lack of trust.

The book is also and encouragement to any who are going through issues of loss and betrayal because it shows how beautifully God can and does work in our lives when we turn to Him. Truth was woven into the book without the reader feeling like it was a sermon with a story wo

Who doesn't love a good love story? The characters were realistic, the story was believable and the setting one of my favorite countries! I couldn't help but root for Bonny and Kieran. Both had tragic pasts to overcome in order to begin healing and living again. This book is so wonderful on so many levels. The character descriptions and actions were believable. And as I read about Bonny and Kieran both trying to get through life without having come to terms with their losses, I could feel their pain and understand their turning away from God. However, in this book of extreme pain, I was able to walk through with them and rejoice with their awakenings. The book grabs you from the first chapter and holds your interest completely through to the last page.

The story of the love between Bonny and Kieran is remarkable. They go through many trials just as all couples do. The book brings you into their lives from the beginning. Also brings Scotland to life with the many places, traditions and it's people.

This is a must read. Author Norma Gail does an excellent job.

From the first page to the last this book made me feel as if I were there with Bonny. I could not put the book down.

Bonny loses all she loves in a short time and steps away from her faith in the Lord. When she finds her way back then she has to deal with Kieran who feels abandoned by God.

Norma Gail has done an excellent job of making the reader feel as if they are on the journey with Bonny and Kieran. I would recommend this book to anyone.

I loved this book. I couldn't put it down once I started. The author really knows how to make the characters come alive! It is such a refreshing and worthwhile book to read - somehow retaining a sense of purity although there is a feeling of brooding evil in the book as well, which causes the page-turning tension. In the end, well ... I shouldn't tell you! Have fun!

While reading Land of My Dreams by Norma Gail I felt like I was in the high desert of New Mexico and the highlands of Scotland. It had unexpected twists and I felt a range of emotions towards the characters from sympathy, to annoyance, to dislike, to admiration. It is a contemporary romance that brings together people from two different cultures.

I enjoy Christian romance and jumped at the chance to read this new book! Our God sees and hears us wherever we are in our journeys and for this young couple that was truly the case. I loved finding out so much about Scotland and hope to travel there one day! What a blessing to be able to read this new release.
