If you're looking for a fast-paced, poignant story of second chances, here's a great book for you. On the one hand, I was hesitant to read this book because I'm normally so-so about the celebrity angles. But at the same time, bands and music pushed me over the edge to give it a try. This story was about a past-their-fame band who might get a second chance; just as one marriage was breaking up and making way for a different kind of second chance.

Alex's marriage to Glenn was pretty much over sinc

There's just something about Karen Booth's storytelling that makes her books so inherently readable. There's little to no angst, no nail-biting tension - just comfortable characters and an engaging story. Hiding in the Spotlight is another worthy read added to her repertoire.

Alex Halford awakens one morning to find that her husband, Glenn, the man she's been married to for the last 17 years, the only man she ever been with, has up and left her and their sons. She and Glenn have had

Enjoyed the story but hated the ending.
David was so incredibly patience and long suffering throughout the entire story - heck he would put a saint to shame! He, and the readers, deserved a much happier finale but, once again, he puts his life second. It was just such a disappointment that it was still all about Alex.

I'm not quite sure how to describe the story telling.
It was basic. Very basic.
It's like the author received an A in a college creative writing class and then decided to write a book because of it. The premise behind the book sounded promising, the lack of character development drove me insane.
Alex, the heroine, started with the personality of a pathetic, wet mop and ended the story as just a wet mop.
The hero, David, was forgettable.
The only interesting person was Glenn, and he

Her husband has cheated on her when he decides he wants more and he leaves her behind with their two children. His band member has always had a thing for her so he allows them to move in with him. Will they take it any further? Will her husband find out? See how they all get on

I liked this story. I did have some issues with it, which is why I rated it at 3 stars but overall, it was a good little story that I would read again. I loved the music aspect and especially that they were older rock stars and not fresh on the scene ones. I loved the family dynamic, especially the way David was with Tyler.

Alex was a little too much of a doormat for me through most of the book. I wanted to shake her because the issues she dealt with were ridiculous to me. Glenn was a jerk and Al

Alex wakes up one morning to find her husband Glenn has walked out on her. No great loss, since he's a cheater, but he leaves her without any money and with two young boys to take care of.

She turns to David, Glenn's best friend, songwriting partner and band mate. They've been friends for years, and David's been in love with Alex since always. He takes her in but he can't hide his feeling for her forever, and Alex finds she has feelings for David too. I loved how they finally get together, and e

David is such a wonderful hero!! My heart ached for his years of urequited love for Alex. It was a joy watching David and Alex build their HEA amidst all the turmoil surrounding them. Alex's boys were an integral part of the story - Ms Booth has a real knack for writing children. ...more

The minute I finished reading Forever: The Boxed Set I had to buy this one. It's not like this is a continuation of the story. I just loved that collection so much I had to have more from Karen Booth. She's that good!

The only apparent similarity to Forever is the rock star theme. I don't think it's a spoiler to say that David and Alex belong together, and Glenn comes across a the most egotistical, self-centered rock star you can imagine. He's an @$$h0le! Truly. He's a cliché, almost cartoonish
My third TBR book, #13 on my list, was Hiding in the Spotlight by Karen Booth. I enjoyed this book. While I felt it started out a little slow around the 40% mark it really picked up and had me wanting more.
I thought this relationship was built on the foundation of a solid friendship. I loved the great communication, none of the running, misunderstanding nonsense that usually frustrates me. Adults acting like adults. I feel like the clear and honest communication between them really drives this

I like the premise of the book. The book was a sweet second chance romance along with friends to lovers

Alex is dealing with her husband abandoning her and her children, no money and drifting. She leans on one of her closets friends for support. David has loved Alex for years and now is his opportunity to show her how much.

I loved the connection between this couple. They were sweet and their love was heartbreaking at times.

Although I liked the book, I wish it was filled with more happiness for th

When it comes to the emotions, nothing is set in stone. Heartache has a way of appearing when least expected. For Alex and David it's the heartbreak neither saw coming that open their eyes. Secrets, romance and second chances shine a light on what could have been. Hiding in the Spotlight is a captivating journey of love lost and hope found that touches the heart. ...more

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving an honest review. As I’ve said before, I always give honest reviews whether people appreciate them or not.

This story begins with Alex waiting for her best friend Lisa to arrive. She’s in desperate need of a friend to talk to since a few days before this her husband left her a note saying he needed ‘a break’. This is where, as a reader, I say “what is this, a sitcom?” Anyway, Alex’s husband Glenn is the front man of a

When Karen Booth emailed me to tell me that she had a new book coming out and asked if I wanted an arc, my instant reaction was: YES PLEASE!

Immediately when starting this story, my heart was broken for Alex. As the synopsis above states, her husband Glenn, leaves her without a a word other than note and with no money and a pasted due mortgage payments. Unsure what to do, Alex leans on her husbands band mate and best friend David. David is completely supportive and opens his home to Alex and her

My rock star author... I love when Karen comes out with a new rock star book because I know it's going to play into my own fantasies and take me somewhere entirely new. She definitely has a gift for writing rock stars as lead characters because it isn't just about the one-night stand. She almost writes from the perspective of a fan and what WE might dream about, which makes me smile. She develops characters beyond the stage, and definitely from beyond backstage and turns them into real people. I ...more

This was a pleasant surprise. A good story on a has been rock group making it good again. You always have that lead singer with the huge ego, Glen. His trodden down wife, Alex & the down earth band member, David. ( nice to have normal names for a change).
When her husband leaves her 'to find himself' Alexis is left with nothing, she & the kids stay with David. Unbeknownst to the other there's a long time crush on the other. However their union could cause issues with the band reforming, having fo

HIDING IN THE SPOTLIGHT is another winner from Karen Booth, and takes its rightful place in the spotlight, next to BRING ME BACK and BACK FOREVER. I won't say I love it more than those two books, but I love it equally yet differently, the way you can love your children equally yet differently.

David Callahan has been in love with Alex Halford since high school. There's only one problem: she's his best friend's wife. Soon-to-be ex-wife, but it still hits him hard that he's breaking the "bro code."

I liked Alex, you could get the torment and struggle with what to do about her future after her douche of a husband Glenn leaves a note then splits to destination unknown. David who grew up with both Alex and Glenn lets Alex and her 2 boys move in with him and then we start to learn of his long standing attraction to Alex. As Alex works through her feelings about her marriage her attraction to David starts to show and we see them try and work through how they feel about each other

Ummm… wow. That book just took me on a whirlwind of a ride. Normally I won’t touch a story with even a hint of infidelity or a love triangle with a ten-foot pole. This story still managed to suck me in and pulled me under the emotional riptide before I was even aware it was happening. The author was able to get me past the not-so-great timing for the start of Alex and David’s relationship and get me to root for the success of it in the end. I thought the family dynamics portrayed here were frigh ...more

I always get so excited when i get an email from Karen Booth telling me she has a new book coming out an would i like to review it. I so love her books especially her Rockstars . Her books are like watching an episode of where are they now for your favourite band as a teen.

Hiding in the Spotlight is no exception. I loved watching the relationship between Alex and David develop it felt very natural and perfect. I must admit I wasn't expecting the book to finish the way it did but i loved it. Def

Alex and her children are left behind by her rock star husband Glenn but her marriage has been over for years and now she is barely making ends meet when David from the band offers to move them in with him. David has been in love with Alex since they were seventeen but his friend got her first so he stepped back but now he sees his chance to show her that he loves her and will treat her better than Glenn had. This is a story with some twists but I loved that David and Alex were able to get toget ...more

Life is a funny thing. You could meet the woman of your dreams as a teenager, but watch your best mate swoop in and lay claim first. You could watch them grow up, get married and have kids, all the while failing to form any meaningful attachment of our own, because the right girl is just out of reach.
But what if your best mate left one day? Left her and the kids high and dry, and you were the one that could save her?

This is a story about a man getting a second chance at a relationship with the only woman he ever loved when she is deserted by her husband, who is also his oldest friend. It is a story about choices and how they influence your future, overcoming insecurities and believing in yourself. To trust enough to take a chance on love. I loved the characters in this well written story, it kept me hooked from the start.

Hiding in the Spotlight is a great second chance romance. The characters are well developed and the storyline is well written and has drama, teenager issues, an ages-old unrequited love, an egotistical cheating ex-husband, and a second chance for romance.

I read and reviewed this book with no obligation.
