I had some difficulty determining a reasonable rating for this book. It is divided into three sections: the life of Jesus; the times; and the teachings of Jesus. Having read both the Bible and other information on Jesus - I had higher expectations for this volume. I felt the first section was extremely basic and really didn’t provide any new or interesting insights. The second section provided some new material on the times and environment in which Jesus lived, but again quite basic. The third section on the teachings did have some insight into the different “angles” of the apostles writing the gospels and how they captured different aspects of Jesus’s mission but again was repetitive and pretty elementary for the most part. Bottom line however - this book would probably be very interesting and informative to someone who knew very little or nothing about Jesus and his times, but for those looking for something more insightful and of more depth - this falls short.

I would note however that the illustrations throughout the book, showing the various styles and artwork portraying Jesus, were beautiful.
