Christian Chick's Guide to Surviving Divorce - What Your Girlfriends Would Tell You If They Knew What To Say

Rate this book
Christian Chick's Guide to Surviving Divorce is what your girlfriend would tell you, preferably over coffee and crepes, if she knew what to say. With a good dose of humor, it's full of life-giving encouragement as well as practical guidance. A book full of hope—from someone who has been there.

"I walked into my local Christian bookstore with my head down, hoping no one would see the tears streaming down my face," writes the author. "I didn't want the usual version of surviving divorce have a glass of wine, slash his tires, head to Jamaica, and party like you did in college. I needed Godly advice from a woman who had walked in my shoes and lived to tell about it."

Divorced does not have to be your label. You can heal and come out on the other side in triumph.

Every year, 900,000 women of faith go through a divorce. This book is full of the wisdom and encouragement that Suzanne received, as well as the lessons she learned while the Lord was exchanging His beauty for her ashes. There is life on the other side. A life full of hope, healing, and triumph.

Exactly what the title says, what you want to say to your girlfriend if you just knew what to say. I loved Suzanne's honesty interspersed with solid biblical truth that comes from walking through the fire and coming out on the other side redeemed and renewed by God alone. I also loved that she addresses the practical topics like lawyers, the "leftovers" as she calls them (the photos, the ring, the dress...) and even dating after divorce. I will certainly pass this along to a friend who would need it.

Love this book and highly recommend. This book was very down to earth not preachy and yet so practical. Reading this was like having a conversation with your friend comforting yet giving you the tough love as well. She shares the what to do and what not to do during time of separation and after divorce.I genuinely enjoyed reading this book and it was very helpful.

Enjoyed thoroughly. Loved how Christ-centered thus book was especially the “hard” topics. Never threw my book down once. Actually, couldn’t wait to read the next chapter. Gave me a clearer viewpoint on being a soon to be divorced Christian woman.

Thank you so much! I really needed this book as my husband is leaving me. Her words of encouragement come from a heart that was broken once too. She found healing in God. What a sympathetic book like a loving companion to a hurting heart. It's the best book I've read on divorce for a fraction of the price. No hype or long theological lessons - just a testament to allowing God's love to heal the broken heart. My heart is breaking too but I know as I follow the principles in this book, I'll reach that place of wholeness again. It's also great to come from a woman who's been betrayed by her husband as I have. Many books brush over the issue and it needs to be addressed.

I'm reading this for the second time. This book is great. The tone is very conversational. Suzanne's situations are personally very relatable to my own situation. She backs up her thoughts and feelings with bible verses, which are comforting and help uplift you in your time of grief, anger and sadness. I'm sure there are chapters I'll read again as I need encouragement along the way. If your reading this review, you or someone you know well is suffering and going through a horrible time. I'm so sorry for you. Everyday is a bit better than the last and the rollercoaster is long. Best of luck.

Definitely A Keeper

This book is written in a wonderful tone, very loving. Nothing has been left out in this complete book about divorce, except one thing, the author might have told how she met her second husband. The reader is left to assume she met him online, but more detail here would have been helpful. Online dating can be a scary thing. The appendix and websites at the end may be very helpful.
