It's time for the zoo animals to go on vacation! Their plane makes several stops: a forest for the deer, the North Pole for the polar bear, the mountains for the panda, the jungle for the monkey, and more. But after two months away, the animals are happy to be reunited at the zoo--just in time to welcome Mrs. Kangaroo's baby!
This is part of the G+D vintage group of books that have recently republished these children books from the 50s and 60s. I have enjoyed them as some good material, but this one was rather disappointing and I didn't think it was all that great.
The zookeeper is taking all the animals on a vacation. They circle the globe letting the animals go home and then back to the zoo to see the new baby kangaroo. I have to say it's fun to think of zoo animals going on vacation, but the art and story are pretty flat and there isn't much joy or humor here. The running gag is that the penguins always think it's too hot where they are.
Children who love seeing animals in stories might enjoy this beginning story, but it did not tickle me as a reader. I was rather bored. My star rating is generous.
This was a great story. We, as humans, go on vacation all the time, right? Pre-COVID of course. So in this story, the ANIMALS from the zoo, are going on vacation! It was fun to read where each animal would be going and how that was being arranged. The illustrations are great as well! Very colorful.
Originally published in 1964. As I read this book, I couldn't help but think how sad it is that the animals who enjoy visiting their natural habitats all return to live at the zoo.
